Show Me Your 2023 Restart’s 🤩

Uhh yes please! ‘Start the car, er truck and trailer!’ :joy:

I hate saying I am glad to hear it’s ‘normal’ for the TBs to have foot issues but it’s comforting to know that it’s not something I’m doing specifically.

And thank you! It is nice to hear because I quite like being the shorty that can ride ponies and honies, not as far to fall or get up. I really wasn’t a fan of using a mounting block to get on a barrel just to get on my horse.

Good luck at your show! I cannot wait to hear about it

How’s everyone doing with their projects?

My Maya continues to be pure perfection. :black_heart: We had our first off-property adventure yesterday and she was unbelievable - she acted like a seasoned ‘been there done that’ school master. Hoping to get her to her first little jumper show this weekend.

Had a bit of a setback with the baby last month. After nothing but chill, willing behavior she had a big baby moment during which I came off, whacked my head, and landed in the ER. Oops. :upside_down_face::innocent: So we’ve taken a beat while I have fun with my two grown up mares. Starting next week I have someone with lots of experience starting babies lined up to come to the farm to help me get her going. I am alone at the farm 99.9% of the time and it is decidedly NOT worth getting hurt over baby shenanigans.

Hope everyone else is having a safe and productive summer with their ponies!

Awww this is so awesome! Makes my heart happy to see this and the smile on your face.

What a talent

Oh no! How did your fall happen!? I am so sorry to hear that. That’s one thing as an adult I would like to avoid for the rest of my life… :expressionless:
Glad you are doing much better now. That kills the confidence I get it.

For my Philly… I think she’s in the ‘down time’ 6months to a year :joy:. As I’ve mentioned she arrived with brutal feet and it’s been a process between barefoot to shoes and pads to abscesses, graduating to regular shoes and then pulling shoes from fly stomping and the farrier can’t get here for a week.

So… we have been basically walk trotting and hacking with easy boots.

However, I should consider it a win. I really wanted a quiet minded TB to just play with and she has become much more consistent, trusting and great in the crossties where she wouldn’t tie before. (Don’t even mention how she was with her ears or trimming her mane before).

All in all her personality makes me feel quite zen and lovey … she looks at me with life and cheekiness rather than a blank dull eye roll.

I should edit and add… Philly is now 9y/o proof with my kid niece. Now that’s a win! :joy:

Oh my goodness. Your niece is adorable on her! Seems like you got a really kind one. The downtime is so hard, but I think you’re right - it’s a win in the long run. Puttering is often just what they need!

I’m not really sure what set her off, I don’t remember. Maybe a bird in the indoor? Or it was possibly just an eff you “watch this, mom!” baby moment. We were walking calmly on a loose rein and then boom. The last thing I remember is walking her to the indoor to ride and then I came to in the ER. I only know what happened because I found the video of it two days later in my deleted items folder on my phone - yes, I attempted to delete the evidence so my husband wouldn’t find out. Somehow I was still functional enough to catch her, untack her, put her away, and then call my husband to take me to the hospital - after I deleted the video, lol. CT scan was normal, so I went home a few hours later and took it easy for a week. My first concussion and so far no lingering effects other than some new safety measures when I ride alone. :upside_down_face:

Oh man that sounds like a really bad fall! I had a concussion 6months ago on a naughty baby horse, same thing, walking and loose rein, no stirrups. I was so dizzy but I couldn’t imagine blanking time. You’re so lucky your okay!

Yikes! Getting your bell rung like that is truly frightening! Glad you’re ok too! I know a ton of people who have been really hurt this year, seems like more than usual, in fairly mundane ways. It’s made me and my friends think hard about how to do this as safely as possible. I got an Apple Watch for fall detection and to call for help if I can’t get to my phone. And I now text my husband when I get on and off each horse. Things I should have been doing all along, but you know how it goes.
