Showing in grey breeches?

I already know it’s legal, but I was wondering if anyone has some photos of themselves showing in light grey breeches? Do you add grey to any other part of your outfit? What color pad do you use?

I have ruined every pair of white breeches I’ve ever had before I even got to the barn, absolutely not interested in wasting $$ on any more!

Grey is fine. I wear cream/champagne breeches for the same reasons you use grey.

I tie it all together with cream saddle pads, stock ties and gloves. That may be more difficult with grey, as I don’t see that many accessories in grey.

Judges will not notice or mark you down for an ensemble that is not “matchy-matchy”.

White is not a practical color to wear around horses. Period!

I know it’s fine, just hoping to see some pictures to sort of visualize how people who are much more stylish than me are putting it all together. A Google search hasn’t helped much.

I actually have a gorgeous grey pad, but my inclination is to stick with a black one. I am sure I could find a grey stock tie.

I haven’t personally seen it but I am sure it has be done well. I would love to see pictures if you come across any. Have you considered white breeches with a black seat?

Considered, owned them, ruined them. I also own a light grey fleabit horse, so try to keep anything white far away from him, as it just highlights his natural dark areas in a very unflattering way.

These are sort of the look/breech color I was going to be going for:

Except, you know…a 5’2’’ top heavy, short-legged person on a fat, unenthused backyard QH doing 1st.

Can’t find a picture where someone has paired them with a black pad (or a show coat, for that matter.)

I haven’t seen anyone in that dark of grey. On the Facebook Adult Ammy page or tack page (I can’t remember) there was just a discussion with pics. Most of them are so light you can’t tell they are grey and not white.

I feel you with the aversion to white as well. Whose idea was that!? I saw a picture of someone riding in all grey everything. Boots, breeches, coat, helmet. It was an upper level rider too. It was way too matchy-matchy, and the boots screamed “elephant.” I am looking for the picture.

I have some with a navy full seat, so I pair with navy pad and jacket. I don’t have any pictures though.

I always show in dove grey for the same reason. I have several photos, I’ll upload them when I’m on an actual computer. I wear a navy jacket with grey piping and my horse has either a white or grey pad.

Sounds gorgeous!

Sadly, I have a lovely black coat that I would like to use, but maybe I’ll keep it for the bay and splurge on a nice navy one for the grey…

Please ignore my terrible chair seat. This photo had the best lighting to show his pad and my breeches. At this show I used my dove gray pad. I’ve used white as well. I usually get “nice turnout” on my score sheet. It’s simple, but most importantly, these breeches have lasted far longer than my white ones.

I show both FEI and USEF tests in grey breeches and navy coats. Here’s a picture of my mare and I last fall (https://www.dropbox.com/s/dy146dabxy2pbfl/DSC_0258.JPG?dl=0). My gelding is a bay-based leopard who looks relatively red in the light, but he looks good with the grey/nave as well.

FITS used to make a shade called “dove gray” which is just barely gray that I have used for showing. I have a white horse, and I think that putting any white on him makes his color look not-so-white. I have worn these with a navy coat, or with a charcoal-gray coat with navy collar. It would look fine with black too, but if I’m going with something a bit different, I like to make it a whole outfit “look”.

I use a navy pad with sliver/gray trim. I don’t really like the gray breeches with a traditional white pad. (but again, I am riding a white horse who doesn’t look good in white to begin with) Black, or charcoal pad would also work, depending on the horse and what color coat you are using.

I also have a light gray satin stock that I wear with my gray breeches, but I don’t know where to find one anymore. The manufacturer of mine no longer makes them in that color. I really love my gray stock, but I don’t think it is necessary, the outfit looks fine with a white stock. I have worn either black or white or gray gloves with this outfit. I do think that silver accents (buttons, stock pin, etc) work better than gold with the gray.

Lovely, both of you! Horses, breeches, the whole package.

Ok. I was just having this discussion with a friend and she is looking for dove grey full seat breeches to show in. It is such a good look. So far we have found Romph and Cavallo. What other brands are available?

I don’t share your aversion to white - I think it looks so nice, esp with a black coat. However, I am curious as to how you have “ruined” them. Stains from the saddle? Seems the black full seat would fix that. Get them stained while grooming/tacking your horse? I always wore loose pants or a long skirt over my breeches and boots when showing to keep them clean and white and never have had a problem. Did that stop being a thing? (haven’t shown in a number of years…)

If the OP is anything like myself, she will find ways. Because she has skills. The dirt will find her.

Light grey FITS breeches (apparently they do not make this color any longer)
Grey Arista show vest OR dark blue Pikeur jacket
white or black saddle pad with white or black or silver piping. I have a grey pad, but it becomes just too much grey.
I wear white gloves, but I am looking for light grey gloves. I thin Samshield makes some, but I cannot find them here in town.
Dark grey Uvex helmet
