Silliest jockey club names

Lord Tweet (Lord Buzz x Tweetsie Pie)
:dead::dead::dead::dead:

Long before “Tweet” had anything to do with social media of course. Not that it would have improved the name any. Blech. Zero imagination from the breeder, and an undignified moniker. Of course, his great grand sire “Jeff’s Uh Oh” didn’t exactly have a ring to it either.

I have Huntin n Peckin. Clever, but I couldn’t keep it. She is now Sin City as an ode to her sire because she looks just like him. Dam’s name was Tasteslikechicken.

I also have Silver Steel. Not bad, but she’s a bay mare with very little white.

Fready Cougar (sire: Perfectly Ready). Hideous name so he’s now eventing as Black Canary.

Oh, I have a mare with JC name Jahgandi.

If I ever get there, her show name will be Andigo Bayou!

Cope with Terry. Terry was the trainer’s wife. Not very nice. His daddy was Copelan.

I don’t mind Pack O’ Gold. Not the best, but not a bad name. He came with the barn name Packer, though, which had to go.

His siblings were less fortunate, however. There’s Gold Gold, Golden Niblet, and No Nibbling.

Sexually Boy  he was Argentine bred so I think something got lost in translation there!

The horse I take lessons on (and am totally enamored with, ) has the JC name Due Elk. It’s pretty easy to figure out its origin-- he’s by Due Diligence out of Elkhorn Creek-- but it’s just… kind of a weird name.
He has a nifty freeze-branded number 6 on his neck, so he goes by Six.

Bonus horse name: My old PC horse’s AQHA name was Sue’s Bomb, which I hated, so I called him Shorty. He was by Boston Bomb out of Indiana Susan, so it was pretty obvious where it came from, but people used to joke that his dam must’ve been disappointed in him.

I met someone years ago who had Old Pancake.

Though I think Yardsale on Wheels is my favorite. There must be a story there. Do you know it Em?[/QUOTE]

I do. It’s kind of sad.

David, “Lunar’s” owner and breeder, had a mother who passed away. When he went to her house (After some period of time of not seeing her) he was surprised to see that she had become a hoarder. That the house in and of itself was burgeoning with stuff. He was already distraught at his mother’s passing but was now overcome with what to do with all these things and how to get rid of them. He said to his friend who accompanied him, “We should just slap wheels on the house and then it’d be a Yardsale on Wheels.”

Right then he thought of a colt he had in his pasture at home. A colt whose fondest thing was to reach over the fence line, grab what laundry he could reach drying on the clothes lines and run all around his field with it. Eventually to drop it and go back for a different piece of clothing, towels, etc. The pasture would often be peppered with 3-10 items. (Don’t ask me why they never relocated the clothes line!)

He said that the thought made him smile for the first time since his mother had passed.

Aksarben’s Ghost (Nebraska bred, so they spelled it backwards). At least he was grey!

Pesty Side (Bold’s Valentine x Turnverein). Really, nothing better comes to mind?

Running Eagle (I always thought they flew, and this is a mare!)

The sire of my friend’s mare was Can Opener. Truly the dumbest name I’ve ever heard.

My guy’s sire was Haymaker and his dam was Noble and Good so his JC name was obviously Hay Kevin.

What I want to know is who the hell was Kevin???

I saw one on Tv yesterday called Bigbluekitten.

Big Blue Kitten is a successful graded stakes horse on turf. He’s by Kitten’s Joy-- the source of a LOT of “kitten” names. Big Blue would be in reference to University of KY, the alma mater of Ken Ramsey (owner and breeder of Kitten’s Joy and many of his Kittens).

I thought he had to be related to Kitten’s Joy. Just found the name funny. Have come across lots over the years.

Used to gallop on called, Fireside Drive, I think it was. Many years ago.

I ride a 2008 TB ggelding also named “Bumby” he is named after the family patriarch. Actually a lovely horse that looks a lot like Sunday Silence

His brother was recently purchased and had his name changes to “Smooth”

Came across a terrible one yesterday- “Pitiful”. By Executioner out of Glitter and Glamour. She must not have been too pitiful, as she sold at auction in 1982 as a broodmare for $20,000. Which seems awfully high based on her race record. Six years later she sold for $2,200.

Would be interesting to know why she had such an unflattering name!

One of my track listings was a “ballistic kitten” by kittens joy

My old TB was General Motive (how blah). I now have Front Man and Scotts Truluck (which i hate! Bad name for a pretty mare!!)

I own Yardsale on Wheels.

I do show with it because I love the name.

Thank you for sharing! I saw that horse run in Florida and Virginia. I absolutely love seeing horses I recognize pop up online in good situations. One of the reasons I always beg people to do as you do and show in the JC name. And trust me: the more unique or silly, the more likely someone like me is going, “OMG! I remember when Lucie won on that horse!”

And thanks for providing the backstory. I always wondered.

Up until I got my newest guy in March, Lunar was my only actual on the track winner.

He’s a neat horse. I am so glad that folks like being able to follow my horses. I absolutely compete them all with their JC names as I know what it’s like to wonder where the horse you used to gallop ended up.
