I’ve got an Aussie bred registered down under as Mr. Doubtfire. He raced in Hong Kong as True Valour. Dam was Brave Deed and Sire was Not A Single Doubt. I show him under True Valour.
Another one is NZ bred registered as Good Combination. He raced on Hong Kong as Mark Good. I am not sure what to show him under, I like to keep the JC name but both of his are bad. His barn name is Jackson. Need to figure it out soon since I need to register him with TIP.
Both raced overseas so not likely to bump into any old connections who would recall the name. Plus they both have prominent freeze brands on their shoulder so anyone in the know could identify them readily in that manner.
sorry dup post
My mare’s jockey club name is My Favorite Saluki.
This isn’t a super odd name, but unusual in the way he was named, so I thought I’d post it in case his connections read this thread. I have a gelding named Rudy S, 2000 NY bred, named after his breeder Rudy Santopietro. I obtained him through CANTER NE at SUffolk Downs in 2006. I figured that if the breeder made him his namesake, he must have sort of liked him, I attempted to contact him to let him know that he landed in a great place and was well loved. Unfortunately, I found out he had passed away, though I believe his wife is still around. HE’s a lovely horse and someone obviously cared for him deeply because he is very respectful on the ground, super social and very intuitive and truly connected to me. I’ve owned many horses, but he’s very special to me. Thanks to you Rudy S.
That is an awesome name!!!
I have my favorite and least favorite jockey club names…
Kissing Santa and Little Fruit Fly
Three guesses which is which… And yes, I changed her name

Was she bred by Southern Illinois University? The Saluki is their mascot and all the horses had Saluki in their names.
My old gelding was Rossi Star. Bred by the Rossis, had a star. How original lol.
Had a mare named Here’s Suds by Inyureye.
Had a gelding named Eromdiks (Skidmore backwards) (called him Dixie)
Current horse’s dam is Tellmewhatyouknow, barn name “Whisper”
I had a gelding who’s dam was Fool’s Dame by Tom Fool. I love the Fool names.
There was a horse that raced here in Oz whose name was ‘Far Call’. Looks OK on paper but after his first start it was changed
My mare’s poor dam ended up with the name “Dirty Donna” (and don’t google that one unless you’re into adult content… ).
My mare’s registered name isn’t silly but it’s not very feminine and not easy to pronounce unless you know the Viking history of the city of York (Jorvik).

That’s lovely chism, as a breeder, it would matter to me a great deal to know that one of mine had found a good home. Did you try to contact his wife, I bet she would love to hear from you.
None of the TBs I have bought have had very interesting names, here are a few: the first one was Redorette (by Red Brick out of Tedorette), Beryl J, Star of Life (by Al Hattab/o/o Star Apple), By the Letter, by Arts and Letters out of By the Hand. The worst name was my very best mare, Two Bitter by Pluck out of Windy Fay by Windfields. She was honest and brave and fast, and as beautiful a horses as ever lived.
The worst name of a TB that I owned was “Stiff As A Board”, By Big Spruce, out of Stiff Queen.
That name would not have been a really great image for the hunter ring, so I changed it to “Finders Keepers”. Sadly he was stiff as a board, and I could not wait to find him a new home.
Another horse I had was named “Shuffling”. Again, not the image you want to portray in the hunter ring. And, again, the name was apt – he was the slowest horse I have ever seen. Just getting him to trot was exhausting. His show name was
Vintage, because he was one of the last vintage TB’s in the show ring.
Bad names in general:
Walks Like a Duck
Catatonic (a good racemare who had some very good offspring, so that name comes up in pedigrees still)
Sprite, yes she was bred at the Southern Illinois University. Thanks for clearing up where the Saluki part came from.

Neat! My alma mater
I looked at a horse named Slayblade. My retired love is Bootjack out of the mare, I Forgot.
My guys name is “All Names Taken”.
I guess the breeders must get sick of trying to find new names year after year.

I remember a horse racing up here called “Call Her Anything”.
I’m sure the owners just gave up.
Before computers, naming your TB was laborious and time-consuming.
You filled out the registration form with your 6? name choices and sent it off.
Some time later you would get a letter from the JC indicating that none of your choices were available, filled in another 6 and waited, and so on it would go.
Now at least you can see immediately if your name choice is possible.

Thanks…I looked her up, looks like she’d passed too… I’m thinking he was probably one of their last editions.
Had a student with an OTTB with the registered name of Its A Kibitz. I remember years ago watching a race on TV and the one horse was Arewehavingfunyet. They were interviewing the owner. He had named the horse yet as the wife was not enjoying race horse ownership.
