Silliest jockey club names

My fave is still: Cottonpickinwabbit by High Cotton.

I had a horse named Tubby Tom. He was by Cutlass out of Mrs. Bridges who was a Bold Effort daughter. Not sure where they got that name from - he had Tom Fool in his pedigree, but it was a couple of generations back. He was a nice, classy horse (won almost 150K back in the '80’s) and I called him Tucker b/c his name was a total bad fit.

I really like:
I’M UGLY BUT FAST
JOJO DADOGFACEDBOY
JILLMISSEDAPILL
RUNNING TO DEBORDER
SEXCETERA

Halter Hater

Gosh, what owner would even propose that one?

when I worked on the race track I groomed a character named
Mistaken Lover
and took home, after a bad bowed tendon and rehabbed him a horse named Last Request.

I have a TB who came to me with the name Johnny Blue. The name itself isn’t too terrible, but I couldn’t stand it, since in high school the mens room was called the ‘blue johnny’ since the door was blue. My horse was not going to be a mens room

CANTER has a handful of odd ones right now … D’wop D’wop and Schrageanator in KY; A Beard Is A Beard, Ucanchangethename, and Kar Kar in IL; Wheatynbert in MI; Blabbermouth in OH … I’m sure there are more.

The best JC name that I can recall is Not Available. I can just see the owner proposing name after name and getting back notices that that name was not available.

Apparently Not Available WAS available.

Not a TB name but a STBD. My friend’s very successful stud (he stands in the US and Australia) is named Always a Virgin. His dam was Neverhaveneverwill.

It is fun to see the names people come up with after breeding to him.

worst Jockey Club Name

My 2008 geldings name is In Cold Storage. His sire is OutoftheBox. Who names a poor TB colt In Cold Storage? Poor guy!

His name is now Canon (barn name). I haven’t come up with a show name for him.

Mine is “Miss Alice’s Boy” which is just lame. But my trainer has two pretty cool ones and one incredibly bad one. I think she won the Jockey Club name lottery with “Swift Talking Man” and she has a new mare who is turning out to be really neat, and her name is “ShesALittleBandit.” But, she’s also got “I’m Only Fifteen” which is awful and creepy as hell.

I also saw a horse a Pimlico this year called “Is a Gelding” so it was like 4 Is A Gelding, like it was fun fact time or something. Someone who didn’t know anything about the oddities of Jockey Club naming was asking around to see if anyone knew what the horse’s actual name was.

My old guy was Banana Cat. I always wondered what happened while they were naming him. There are neither bananas, nor cats, in his pedigree. I called him Uno.

There was a gelding that went through the CANTER NE listings years and years ago named Horrible Hairy Hog. He was quite lovely, and by the same sire as one of my mares. Always wondered what happened to him…[/QUOTE]

Horrible Hairy Hog is now standing at Moore’s feed lot in Lebanon PA. PM me if you want more info. Do you want him Simkie, he looks in decent shape at least.

ugh. Who dumps a 17 year old horse for slaughter. Let me know what can be done to get him out of there.

Poor guy. Is there anyone in that area that could give him a soft place to land?

Edited to add: I definitely can’t afford to keep another horse, but I’m only a few hours away so I might be able to help with transportation and such if someone can find him a home.

Same - I am not in the position to be able to take on another horse but if someone can give him a soft landing I can send a small trickle through Paypal. Please let me know.

A horse I used to lease had an “Exuberant Fistful” in her lineage. Can’t remember if it came from her QH or her TB side, though.

ETA: Didn’t realize the turn the thread had taken. I can add a little something.

Ourfarmequinerescue.com, they are a 501C3. Small organization run by mother and daughter based in Bedford, New York. Thank you to everyone who offered, hope this is okay on this thread.
