Smarkpak discontinuing Pharmacy

Got a letter in the mail this weekend stating that as of Sept 1st, 2015 Smartpak will no longer have a pharmacy/be able to put prescriptions in your Smartpaks due to the low margins on pharmacy product.

They recommended (over the phone) to move to Valley Vet, as they have auto shipments. They said they would be happy to move prescriptions over for me, but I’m still pretty bummed.

Anyone know of other online/auto ship pharmacies? I asked about Farm Vet (who I’ve gotten Previcox from in the past) but they said they’d never heard of them? (Weird)

I have so enjoyed not having to mess with supplements! Back to baggies :frowning:

I get previcoxx for my dog from Smart Pak and was bummed to hear this too. We switched to Valley Vet. I hope it goes smoothly.

I’ve used Valley Vet for years, including getting Previcox from them. The last time I ordered it it came the second day following my vet contacting them with the prescription. Whenever I did a search for price, I generally found them to be the cheapest.

A lot of vets seem to be affiliating with particular on-line pharmacies; so far I haven’t heard of any formal affiliations with SmartPak, so they are probably losing some customers.

My small animal vet just affiliated with some online pharmacy and so far it’s been nothing but a clsterfck where the vet doesn’t know what the pharmacy is doing/selling and vice versa. sigh Smartpak was a good backup for me for things my equine vet didn’t have on the truck. I am bummed.

I use Valley Vet for all my horse prescriptions. Very competitive prices, usually lower than anyone else. Fast delivery and I’ve never had a problem with an order in nearly a decade.

I was able to speak with someone in the Pharmacy at Valley Vet, and she said they’ve been spending most of their days the last week transferring Smartpak perceptions into their system.

They don’t have an auto-ship (ugh!!!) program, but they do have auto-reminders, so you call in and place your order (they don’t even keep your CC info!)

At least the Rx I need is in tablet form, so there aren’t scoops involved! But counting out 15 tabs/day and putting them in baggies will be a drag!

I’ve always used valley vet - best prices, excellent, fast shipping, fabulous customer service. Always gone the extra mile for me, including returning phone calls, etc. Cheapest, too. I have always used them over SP for pharmacy by choice.

This is across the board, and not just on a state-by-state basis?

I’ve used Allivet for prescription stuff. Easy to deal with. Good service. I started using them when I was getting Adequan and Legend bc they were the least expensive for the combination. That was at the time, when Mountain Vet stopped shipping out of state. Have also had good luck with Valley Vet, just haven’t used them for prescriptions.

Correct, it’s due to low margins (what they said) which I guess means they want to be putting resources into more profitable sectors of the business. Can’t fault them for that, but I am not looking forward to having to have bags in addition to the smartpak wells! Nor do I think my barn manager will be!

I have used Valleyvet.com for years. Great service

I use KV vet supply. They handled calling my vet and everything. They were the cheapest around with free shipping over $50. I have started to buy my wormer from there as well.

SmartPak was recently sold and no doubt some “bean counter” determined the pharma was less than profitable. I just noticed this last time I ordered dewormers that they’ve also discontinued free shipping for under $55 or some such, that sucks because the free shipping was the only reason I used them.

It’s a cut-throat world out there . . . Back to Valley Vet for me!

So now you’ll have to do that and have someone deliver the baggie and the smartpak supplements to your horse?

I also wonder if this isn’t a result of SmartPak being sold. I think they are going downhill.

This is my question exactly. Clearly those of us who are more local to SmartPak haven’t heard a peep about this, so why the difference?

They’ve jacked up prices in the meantime. Single dose of Adequan used to be $48, now it’s $58. Multidose vial used to be $400, now it’s $475. All of a sudden it’s cheaper to buy it from my overpriced vet!

I was curious about this too. I posted a thread a few weeks ago when I got a letter from SP that said they would no longer be selling prescriptions to Vermont customers because the cost of renewing their licensing wasn’t worth it.

But it didn’t say anything about discontinuing pharmacy across the board.

My letter just said the margins were too low, so they were discontinuing the pharmacy. I read that as though they were shutting it down completely, I could be wrong!
