Ordered a halter on Monday, the extra fee was added. They never mention it until checkout, sneaky.
There better not be an extra fee on my monthly smartpak.
I’d rather just an increase in the shipping fee than a fulfillment fee. I wanted to order some customer halters using the Black Friday deals, but the ones I want are on backorder so don’t qualify
Okay here’s something crazy, I’m just killing time browsing Black Friday sales, not really looking for anything in particular, just looking for funsies. The bellboots I use are on sale for $12/pair at SmartPak, and I don’t need them ASAP, so I figured I’d give it a shot and order a pair.
NO FULFILLMENT FEE.
I’m wondering if maybe fulfillment fees only apply to items they don’t stock in the warehouse and have to be shipped directly from the brand? I have no idea, just a theory, but I got a pair of black Arma bellboots for under $14 including tax.
Maybe? My girth was a smartpak housebrand and I still got the fee, but i guess itcould just be cobranded.
My black Friday order had a bunch of different stuff including bulk items.
Sometimes my shipping notification says Bender Warehouse, maybe that has something to do with it?
Or ship-to location? I’m in CA.
I just asked about the fulfillment fee on a live chat on the Smart Pak web site and this is the response I got:
This fee is being charged to all customers currently. We have recently added a fulfillment fee of 1.95 on every order over $19.50 due to the increasing costs of shipping, packaging and labor.
I guess they built an Amazon warehouse in the same town so they’ve lost a bunch of their workforce-and you are right, several layoffs (again) recently.
Curious how long before they are divested.
I think they have a warehouse somewhere out west as well, maybe Nevada area? Last time I ordered something, some of my items shipped from MA while the others shipped from the west coast.
Yes, the have/had a warehouse in Reno. I’m in Boise and would get stuff next day, but it’s been years since that’s happened. I didn’t notice the fulfillment fee for the order I placed on Monday, but yep, it’s there. I ordered two buckets of Tri-Amino which have already shipped, and a bucket of the SmartPak electrolytes, which have not shipped yet.
The breeches and saddle soap I ordered on 11/5 did not have the fullfillment fee, so it seems to be brand new for the holiday season.
For the first time, an item I ordered from SmartPak shipped USPS. Maybe it was dropped shipped from the manufacturer, but that was a new one for me.
My last autoship supplement had the fulfillment fee. I had to dig to find it. There is (was) no mention of it anywhere on their website. I told the rep that it’s pretty sneaky to just add it on without any notification or mention of it on the website. It used to be you got free shipping for orders over a certain dollar amount. Now you’re being charged a fee for orders over a certain amount. The banner on their homepage still says “Free shipping everyday on autoship supplements over $40…” I call BS. A fulfillment fee might not be coded as a shipping fee, but that’s what it is.
An update on shipping/processing:
- Placed an order on Dec 2nd and it shipped yesterday
- Placed another order yesterday (5th) and it shipped today
I don’t mind the fulfillment fee if things continue being this quick, although I’ll keep ordering things that i really need (ex supplements) a month in advance just in case but fingers crossed!
You make a very good point here. They advertise free shipping but then smack on a fulfillment fee…that is not right.
The slip that comes with my autoship does not have any pricing on it and when I look online there is nothing about the fulfillment fee listed with the order… Weird. Annoying. Disappointing.
Funny, I just looked in my email and I have an email from Smartpak telling me that the cost of my Smartpaks is going up ($1 for each product, total of $2). But in the long email it never mentions the new fulfillment fee. It also says across the top of the email that Autoship over a certain amount ships free…no mention of a fulfillment fee.
Screen shot of the top of the email.
I just called to arrange an exchange for a different size, I forgot to ask if there would be another fulfillment fee charged on!
I found the fulfillment on my auto shipped supplements randomly by clicking the little question mark next to the item in my order history.
And the only reason I went hunting for it was this thread.
Thank you @Syrynx.
I see it on my order that is processing right now.
The none supplement order from Nov 15th did not have it and neither did my November supplement order.
I just do not get how they can say stuff ships for free and then turn around and charge us a fulfillment fee.
Fascinating! I got an email yesterday that the cost of my supplements was going to go up. I went to peruse the website to see if I could find a cheaper gastric supplement (I did), and stumbled across an extra 1.95 fee on my 11/18 smartpaks shipment. I read everything they send, and had no idea!
I am with you @joiedevie99. (Though I admit I might miss an email now and again. They send so many.) I would not have known about the additional fee if I had not read about it here and then went looking for it to find it. I specifically looked at the paper in the box and there is no mention of it there.
I get needing the fee, I do not get why they are being sneaky about it and I feel like they are lying with their free shipping proclamation now.
This is pretty much what I told the rep when I contacted them about the fee a couple of weeks ago. It is very dishonest and sneaky.
