Smartpak store without a car?

Hi,

I’m going to be visiting Boston for the first time in a few weeks with my husband…as luck would have it, the last day I’m there he has to work, and my flight home isn’t until 3:45. So I was thinking about places to visit, and realized the Smartpak store is reasonably close by.

Only problem, we don’t have a car up there, and from what I hear, driving up there is challenging anyway! Anybody know if it is possible/safe/smart to get to and from Smartpak using public transportation???

TIA!

Where, exactly, is the SP store? Boston has very good trains and busses but it all depends on where it is.

The address is listed as 30 Worcester Street, Natick, MA 01760…

It looks like it’s several miles west of I95 and not in the metro area, likely going to be challenging to get to on a train followed by a bus. Probably possible but not quick.

It’s going to be difficult up there without driving. It’s not really that miserable to drive Up there. Try a rental or a zipcar.

You could take the green line to Riverside and take a cab. It’s about 6 miles from there.

Or, if I trust that you’re not a serial killer, I could take you at lunch since my office is right next door. There’s several COTHers in the area, I believe.

Uber??? I have used when traveling between La Guardia and my daughter’s house in Old Greenwich, it’s been a good alternative to the train or car service and less expensive.

You could do a zip car but its not really feasible by any sort of public transportation, Uber or taxi.

It’s worth mentioning, there’s a Dover Saddlery store about 3 miles from there in Wellesley. Just saying…

It is definitely not doable by public transportation - it is about 30 minutes by car from downtown Boston. I haven’t found the nearby Dover to be particularly good in the “deals” department and it is too small to have much. SmartPak clearance can be trouble  Feel free to PM me with when you’re in town - I work relatively nearby and may be able to meet you at the T and take you out there.

Dover and SP are about 3 miles apart. SP is right on Rt 9, you’d need a car to get there but it’s very easy to find. Dover is on one of the main streets in Wellesley, just down the street from the Public Library. Easy to get to with a car, not so much on public transit. Both are just outside the range of comprehensive public transit in “small towns turned suburbs.”

I think I may need to visit SmartPak when I am in N. Andover in July. I will have a car. I never thought about them having a physical store. OP thanks for starting this thread.

Jealous of you guys, I’ve been curious to see the store!

Holy crap I never realized it was so close to Boston! My mom is most likely going and I may tag along to Boston in November. I think a trip to Smartpak to pick up some Pipers and other SP goodies is in order! Seeing as they seem to have zero intention of ever shipping to Canada. :frowning:

You work next door to SP?! How are you not broke?! Haha!

Errrr take it from a Masshole…the SP store and Boston only look reasonably close to each other on a map…but it is quite the journey to cover the distance by car due to traffic and (imho) NOT practical by public transportation. Blessed be those who live with in driving distance and have the time to sit in traffic

You guys are awesome - I’m definitely not a serial killer, but I would hate to have someone wait on me while I’m perusing the clearance section!!! Thank you for all the info - my husband is actually talking about maybe renting a car for a day so we can make a couple of side trips outside Boston - maybe on Sunday.

If the Dover store is anything like the one in Raleigh, I don’t feel terribly inclined to visit - nothing incredibly exciting there…hopefully we can get a car, and my husband won’t keep too tight a grip on the pursestrings…

Depending on what week in November you’re talking about, you might be able to hit the horse shopping motherload that is Equine Affaire in West Springfield, MA. You’d need a car to get over there, but boy oh boy is it worth the trip.

I don’t mind in the least, since I’m there roughly once a week perusing the clearance anyway…

My office is right next to the Riverside T station, not right next to Smartpak!! the office next to smartpak is a piano store, I think…?

I would not do the Smartpak store without a car.

Not because I have any clue of where it is, but because you need somewhere to store all the STUFF!
