It was a turn of phrase. I don’t know why people are reading “circling the bowl” as “closing immediately” and not “going downhill” as it was clearly intended.
That may cover the title but a few posts later it clearly states they are going out of business.
They’re not. At all.
But this is how rumors get started!
Can you provide a reference for this statement please? I would like to pass this info along but am not going to do it without some sort of confirmation.
It was certainly stated as fact complete with rolly eyes when questioned. That’s pretty crappy if untrue.
They’re awesome, aren’t they
Sansena was being sarcastic and kind of bitchy to the person who asked the question, not making a statement of fact.
Nice. Typical COTH post in other words, glad I didn’t share it.

Go ride your horses.
Your sarcasm meter is definitely broken.
I don’t think anybody is argung that some people are having crappy experiences with SmartPak, and that thread is a great place to vent and get ideas for alternatives, but I don’t think that’s the typical SmartPak shopping experience. (It’s certainly not mine, and I do a lot of my shopping with them.)
I like their trend towards being a general horse stuff supply store. Dover seems to want to turn itself into a equestrian lifestyle boutique, so there’s a hole in the market anyway.
I’ve bought stuff from SP without any problems, but never did their supplements.
For me, the simple (sometimes tiresome!) act of scooping supplements into a baggie keeps me thinking about what I’m putting into my horse’s gut. Even though I might not change anything for years, I’m always aware of what my horse is getting and why.
My worry with going the SP route is that I would lose this awareness… but I can only speak for my brain and how it works, of course!
You know that at least on this instance it was your thread title combined with your sarcastic follow up post that started the drama, right? “Circling the drain” is slang that can mean different thing to different people and clarifying what you meant would have ended the “drama.”
BTW I have always thought the idiom “circling the drain” meant “near death,” which for a company would mean shutting down/going out of business.

I am clearly not the only one. Even if that’s not how you meant the term, OP, it wasn’t crazy for people to interpret the phrase that way.
No kidding. Not to mention that the phrase “circling the drain” doesn’t mean “customer service has gotten bad.” It means “near death with little time left to live”:

So not a surprise that someone could think the thread title meant that SmartPak was shutting down. Would it really have been THAT hard to clarify instead of getting all sarcastic and eyerolly? Seriously?
If the “drama” shoe fits, wear it.
You people are truly pieces of work. And I"m not surprised the finger shakers (no, not meaning Parkinson’s) are who they are.
Have fun with your trash fest. It’s pathetic.
Hey, I never discredited you trying to be funny, at all. I was just replying to the thread and genuinely asking, as well, what other options are out there.
Ultra Cruz (not just for their house branded stuff), Platinum Performance, HorseTech, Performance Equine Nutrition (MagRestore), Valley Vet, FarmVet, Heartland Vet Supply (with one of their email coupons, I can save a lot on 6 months of Succeed). I have ordered from Uckele directly as well, but I prefer to find their stuff elsewhere if I can (usually cheaper especially if shipping is free). Most of what I currently feed SP doesn’t carry so I haven’t ordered much from them lately. Back when I did auto-ships from them, it was mostly Uckele branded supplements.
I have not had any issues with SmartPak. In fact, I ordered one of their branded fly sheets on sale this summer, and wrote a 2-star review for it because my mare ripped it up, and it was sized a little smaller than her SP rain sheet. They contacted me and offered a replacement in a larger size, or a refund. I also tried ordering some breeches that were on clearance. The website said it was the last pair, and the order went through, but I guess someone else got to them before me. I got a personal customer service voicemail apologizing that they couldn’t fulfill the order, so in both cases I though the customer service was good.
I get a few SP branded supplements, but not the SmartPaks. I buy Tri-Amino from Stateline, and OCD pellets direct from the company, then vitamin E from Amazon, regular vitamins and Cool Calories from the local feed store and currently getting turmeric from Nuts.com
Like some other posters, I use the Dollar Store containers and mix everything up, which is way easier than dealing with baggies, and the containers last a lot longer.
