Just curious if you wear your socks on the outside of your riding pants or on the inside? Any particular reason you prefer one to the other?
If they are ugly, underneath.
If they are cute, trendy and just beautiful, they can be on top.
Out. By breeches are rarely ever long enough for me, so the Velcro ends up around my calf (where it won’t reach) so the socks help keep the Velcro more or less closed.
Out. Keeps the breeches from riding up when sliding my legs into my boots.
Out always. A) I wear super cute and fun socks, and B) even with zippers, it helps keep my breeches smooth underneath so that they don’t bunch up and zip up better. I do get some weird looks walking in and out of stores, though, sometimes. There was even one day when a couple of guys complimented me on my very cool “tattoos”!
In if I have socks on when I put my breeches on.
Out if I put my socks on after my breeches.
In. Breeches all come to my ankles or just above. Everything stays smother for me with them in.
In if they’re wool and it’s cold outside. Out if they’re cotton and it’s not cold. This is Western WA, so that distinction is not really season dependent. I use paddocks and half chaps, so boots have no bearing on my plan.
as long as they do not protrude out of the top of your boots…
I wear sport socks, dri-fit nike ones. So they are under my breeches.
Everyday riding with paddocks and half chaps they are in, when I wear tall boots it is both. I wear a sock under the breeches and then a thin boot sock over the top so the boots don’t bunch up my breeches when I pull my boots on. No zippers on my ancient boots. I don’t like the feel of the edge of the breech and the velcro directly against my ankle.
In, I wear shorter socks. When I switch out of my riding boots, I usually wear paddock boots for the rest of my work. I hate getting nuggets of arena footing in my boots when doing groundwork or barn chores, but at least they don’t get INTO my socks!
Out . Keeps from catching bottom of breeches when pulling on boots.
Socks IN all the time
I love the Noble Equine over-the-calf pedis. I always wear them in, just a better feeling against the skin than breeches, plus I feel like if I put them on over my breeches they would get all stretched out and loose elasticity.
In. They protect my legs from the seams on my breeches, and the Velcro or elastic at the hem. That stuff bites!
I always wear my socks over my breeches.
Its California - and I never need “winter” socks - always thin cotton ones.
Target sells thin cotton in all sorts of crazy patterns and colors (for $2 to $2.50 a pair) - I have a drawer full!
I like over - keeps my breeches smooth under my boots. Keeps bedding and junk from getting under my pants when I clean the stall etc. My legs are longer, and most breeches come just below my calf - the socks keep everything where they should be.

This. I’m short. Most of the time, I just wear regular crew socks; I don’t need knee socks.

Same here in Florida. No need for winter socks and I too have a draw full of Targets crazy socks.
In. Unfortunately got a sock caught in the zipper of my tall boots at a horse show and ruined the zipper. The zipper had to be replaced after that.
Out. Noble Equine. The gaudier the better.
