sheer kneehighs- one in, one out
I wear paddocks and half-chaps. If I wear breeches with Velcro at the ankles, the socks go over the breeches. If I wear breeches with elastic at the ankles, the socks go under the breeches. As far as socks go, I ride only once a week for now, so I wear the same socks (washed in between rides, of course!). Ariat tall socks, medium weight. Come summer I will wear white bobby socks.
Ha, I canāt believe there is 2 pages on this already.
I wear the socks on the outside to smooth down the breeches.
Socks in! Once i mount up i usually give a good tug on the legs of my breeches to get all sorted and smoothed so i can move around when needed. if i tuck the breeches into the socks, then i canāt tug them out as much as i need to. Plus i like that the socks protect my ankles/leg from the bottom of the breech - i hate that feeling against my leg.
And fwiw, the TP in our household is over, not under.
In. Although if I owned velcro-bottom breeches, I could change my mindā¦
I have a hard time imagining wearing my socks pulled up over my breeches. It would just feel too weird.
Breeches are over my socks. I hate the feeling of velcro or elastic against my skin.
When riding in tall boots, socks are out. Too much friction pulling tall boots up against breeches.
When riding with half-chaps and paddocks (which I MUCH prefer), socks are in in in IN!! Iām also not a fan of velcro-y closures next to my skin.

Out. Noble Equine. The gaudier the better.[/QUOTE]
This. Riding clothes (especially at shows) are so conservative. I get the craziest socks I can find and wear them out for the world to see. Also love the Noble Peddies.
The ones from target way outlasted my $15 pair from the cute sock store in Santa Cruz.
I wear my socks in (except the cheeseburger ones becuase those were made to show off) becuase the elastic around the ankle part of my breeches bother me otherwise.
NOW I hear about Target socks - just when our Canadian Targets have closed downā¦
How can there be so many comments on this question ⦠you guys can talk about anything.
hahaā¦great survey and great question. I wear my socks on the outside of my breeches. For schooling, I wear paddock boots and half chaps. To me, if the socks are inside the breeches it feels weird when you are not wearing the half chaps (like before and after riding) to have the top of the breeches either into the top of the paddock boots or even worse, NOT and there is that little gap between the paddock boots and the breechesā¦not a good look. I also feel that the socks on the outside helps keep everything smooth when I add the half chaps or tall boots (depending on the occasion.)
I just saw this. I was told to put my special riding socks over my breeches but today after bringing my boots home I got it caught in my zipper! It took forever to get it outā¦omg!
Joining in to say inside too! But when I wear my tall boots I wear a pair of knee high panty hose over my pants to smooth everything out.
I have been riding for decades and it has never occurred to me that āinā was even under consideration as an option. Of course when I started riding velcro did not exist. Breeches were held tight to your calf with buttons. Socks went over them so you did not catch a button as you put on your boots.
Didnāt everyone do it that way?
(I also had breeches with the flap in front and a set of buttons up each side And, since stretch fabric had not been even thought off, all breeches were made of melton wool and had the big side bulge ( so you did not rip your breeches when getting on from the ground. (if mounting blocks had been invented I never saw one or used one.
PS: I get my boot socks in the menās dept of Walmart. I get the knee height or dress sock height. Both come in thin fabric and are stretchy all the way up so they do not slide down a manās leg. They are cheap and, because they are all black, I do not have to worry about finding a pair.
Out. Cause thereās nothing like peeling off a wet glued on sock like a second layer of soggy skin. Yuck. I love Stance athletic socks. Everyone knows me for my wacky socks.
I hate to admit it,
but I have never thought about wearing my socks inside my breeches. This could be a whole new thingā¦
Yes, I wonder if this is a height thing. Breeches on me are pant-length as well. The one time I tried putting socks over them, the socks were awful, bunchy, and came up past my knees. I always wear my socks inside.
