Just saw an ad for this on one of the dressage hub videos. Looks pretty cool for videoing training rounds or self videoing at shows.

I was, but then I saw a Pixio ad. Pixio looks like it does a better job at keeping the subject centered in the frame and it can be used indoors, but it is much more expensive.
For now I just put my camera in a corner and accept that I can’t cover the entire ring.
I have ordered the Soloshot 3. Won’t ship until June. I tried the 2, it was pretty great, but the initial set-up before the ride was a bit of a pain.

I looked at the pixie and it is quite expensive considering that you have to add your own camera. Since I don’t have the need for indoor I wonder if Soloshot would work for me. How off center was it?

Thanks for the info, do you think the setup with the 3 will be as cumbersome?
Last time I looked the Soloshot needed a separate camera too, though you could buy one through them. That was a while ago.
I bet if you searched for soloshot threads you would find video links. The one I remember specifically had the horse’s almost at the edge of the frame with about half the frame empty behind. The panning was a bit jerky too. Nothing that was a major issue as far as being able to see what horse and rider were doing.
This might be a cheaper alternative, but you’ll have to mount it in the middle of the ring, and it won’t move/follow you, just film 360 video:

Thanks Redhorses, the SoloShot3 has an integrated camera so you don’t have to add a separate one. I will go on YouTube and try to find some video examples.

No, the new one supposedly links right away. That’s what sold me…
I want one! But a bit out of my price range
I have a student who lives in another state and has ordered one so she can get some lessons. Can’t wait to see how it works out!
Well I ordered one, I understand it won’t be delivered until June. I will post some feedback after I get it and start using it. I figure that it will pay for itself, when I can record my classes at the horse shows vs paying the videographer for 5-6 classes.
Anxious to hear how it works for you Flashymover. Did you order the Pixio or Soloshot? Can Soloshot be used indoors?

Suzy,
I ordered the SoloShot3 which now has the indoor capability. Based on the feedback from other threads with the new features, I think the SoloShot is a better value. The Pixio is quite expensive and the camera doesn’t seem as nicely integrated.
I am anxious to use it and only wish that I didn’t have to wait until June
Thanks, Flashy!

Are you comfortable leaving it set up at a show? I would be worried - have had several things stolen at shows!

I would not leave it set-up by itself no, fortunately DH also shows and will be there to babysit the device. I will in turn do the same for him.
One of the riders at my farm had one this winter. She used it to tape her lessons, and said that the best part was that it never stopped concentrating and taped the grass, or the sky, or a dog… She really liked it. I’m going to order one of the 3’s. People must like them, because you can’t find any for sale on ebay!
I borrowed a friend’s Soloshot 2 and it was SUPER cool. The 3 is available for indoor use; I’m saving my pennies! I think it would let my students ride at home in VA when I’m in Florida, and I could call them on their bluetooth device and teach them real-time, assuming our internet in VA is fast enough. I asked Soloshot if this sounded plausible and they said absolutely, so woo!

My DH totally loses concentration and all of a sudden there is this random cutaway to sand, a bird flying by, the dog, etc. He will be very pleased to be relieved of his videoing duties
