something to kill adult Onchocerca? 19 CASE STUDIES POSTED-PAGE 58

No more welts, but Kit’s butt still has something going on with it. I’ve been washing it daily with betadine. Haven’t had a chance to get to the tack store to get either Microtek or krudbuster.

All righty, then. I double dosed Sadie three weeks ago, double dosed again last week. (Zimecterin Gold.) She has been having a little of the goopy eye, had been rubbing hair off her face, had already rubbed out 2/3 of her mane and rubbed out a fair amount of the top of her tail. She has lumps and bumps on her chest and neck, with the occasional crater on her shoulders and flanks. Cresty neck on her, too. I am waiting for a miracle here! Will happily dose weekly with Ivermectin in hopes that she gets some relief, but hey, she’s gonna feel better when it cools down, which it might do by the time I do 2-3 doses of Ivermectin…

Is it safe to use Zimectrin Gold for this?

I have had horses have bad reactions to single doses of ZG.

Maybe this needs to be clarified!

I would never use ZG for two reasons:

  1. Not enough praziquantel

  2. So many documented cases of mouth and lip ulcers caused by the carrier of the drugs. The manufacturer is aware of it, but won’t change the formula.

I have been following this with interest as I have a 5 yr old Rocky Mtn horse gelding that has rubbed his mane off and his belly is crusted, scabby and his sheath is also very scratched from his teeth. Has anyone ever tried the Equest Plus Tape wormer sold in Australia? It sounds so strong to be good for 16 weeks.

Just reporting in - 36 hours post-2nd dose. I only did the 2nd dose on one horse as the others were asymptomatic to start and did not develop the welts after the first dose.

No welts this time. I’m hoping that is a good sign that they’re erradicated. He has broken out in hives 2 times since the first dose just over 2 weeks ago, so I do think something else is in play here. I’ve decided to try all 3 on a soy-free diet to determine whether or not he may have a soy allergy (that was not easy…soy is in EVERYTHING!). His hay is soaked and he’s out 24/7. I have tried everything on his cannon keratosis; more and more I am leaning towards a dietary allergy that is manifesting in dermatitis. The vet thinks I’m goofy because he’s so much better than when he first came, but there is still plenty of room for improvement. He is shedding a ton, the mini horse is hairing up like a yak, and the TB’s coat is unchanged. It’s crazy!

His mane (the bottom 6 inches were nearly completely rubbed out) has filled back in since the first dose, so I am convinced he did have a NTW issue despite the fact that my vet says not.

Equest+ is simply the Australian name for the American product QuestPlus, which contains Moxidectin and Praziquantal. DO NOT double dose EQuest+/QuestPlus!!! Equimax is available in Australia/NZ.

By all means, feel free to use Equest as part of your normal rotation (dosing very accurately by weight), but while dealing with an NTW infestation, only double dose with Equimax wait 14 days and double dose Equimix again. You can also safely double dose generic Ivermectin.

Results Spin Off??

I’ve been trying to keep up with this thread from the beginning, and now that more and more folks are trying it…I thought a RESULTS THREAD might be handy?

So the educational stuff and questions stay here, but those of us interested in seeing how others have begun to use it can read the RESULTS in the new thread?

I didn’t post the spin off, because I haven’t tried it yet.

What do you guys think?

Some GREAt stuff written here by all! Really appreciate it!!

Fancy That, I think a RESULTs spin-off would be great. Someone already tried to collect results in this thread, but I don’t think it went very far. I keep checking back in to see who has results to share.

I do my second DD Emax this weekend. I think I felt his midline scabbie peeling, but want to wait for the second dose to decide if I had success or not.

Oh, please don’t despair! I am compiling “results” by copying/pasting the updates as they come in. I’m hoping to be able to keep this going a while longer and get more participants in the DDEP and then I’ll forward it to LMH so she can create a web page on her site that’ll have it all neat and tidy for us

I started a webpage for my little patients. So far I’ve not seen any huge reaction from any of them. I think the little mare “Silver” is more broken out than usual and seems a bit more inflamed. It’s hard to say though.

Here’s the link

Sorry it’s not real fancy I was having trouble getting motivated to do it at all LOL

I have shots of each horse and how they look “normally”. I have managed to control a lot with supplements and my very good friend home made MTG (mineral oil with garden sulfur). It’s never harmed one of my animals and has proven extremely effective in clearing up the issue temporarily and growing hair back very fast. It seems to sooth them AND the gnats hate it so they don’t aggrevate the situation.

Here’s hoping my babies can be helped with this protocol. Let me know if you think they look fairly typical of the problem.

Equimax came in

My equiMax arrived so some of my worst cases got the 2X dose last night. A couple of them got a 2X dose of Iver 10 days ago. So far no reaction of any sort. Will keep watching as I dose the rest of the herd.

Dick

Well, I checked my boy tonight, at Day 10 from the first EMax DD, and I thought his midline might be clearing. Nope. I do think the midline scab is softer, but not gone. And now there is another area in front of his sheath that seems like no-see-um bites… or maybe worms?

Can’t wait to see everyone’s results, ChocoMare.

jan

Count me in on the DDEP. I ordered a bunch from Country Supply, should be here tomorrow or the next day. Chocomare, I’ll pm you and update after I dd the Equimax  I too am very interested in seeing a Results spin off. Oh, I’ll even take before and after pics too!!!

After reading through this about everyone ordering their shipments of Equimax I bet there’s a few retailers wondering where the hell this sudden demand for Equimax came from

I gave both girls a single dose of Ivermectin last night. Kit looks like a giant dandruff flake :frowning:

AHA Drandruff! That’s good  … go back to the beginning pages of this thread and pop back into the link for the Horse City thread I posted. The pictures that poster put up (eden somebody) showed dandruff and then healing.

Question -

So - now what?

What is the regimen now that they’re gone? Is this something we should add to our worming program, and if so - when?

Sorry if it’s already been written and I missed it. I’d be interested in knowing what the southerners are doing in particular.

Thanks.

Actually JS, you’re the first to ask that very good question.

I have chosen to alter my normal deworming schedule to make the Equimax and Ivermectin turns double dosages automatically. Here tis:

JANUARY = EQUIMAX – DOUBLE DOSE

MARCH = QUEST

MAY = IVERMECTIN (after first bloom) – DOUBLE DOSE

JULY = QUEST PLUS

SEPTEMBER = IVERMECTIN – DOUBLE DOSE

NOVEMBER = QUEST (after first frost)

Did I read somewhere the are dormant in ‘non-midge season?’ So would it be better to save double doses for May-October?
