Spanx and riding?

I’m getting a little bit desperate on ways to hide my tummy pooch when my shirt is tucked into breeches (say, for a show or clinic). I’ve tried high waisted breeches and my torso is just too short for those. Has anyone tried riding in Spanx or some equivalent? Any issues with the waistband rolling down on them? I just want to look a bit sleeker and more professional instead of the blob I currently look like.

Yes, I know, I diet and I exercise. I lose weight everywhere but my stomach.

It depends. I never had an issue with Spanx or underbreeches when I rode hunters or jumpers. In dressage, I find they interfere far too much with the smaller movements in my upper thigh and core, and prevent my thigh from fully flattening against the saddle, which results in unwanted tension, which the horse reacts to. I’ve had to just accept not wearing them in the name of being a more effective rider.

I have bought Spanx shapewear and find them over priced; that and they wear out quickly.

I bought these off of Amazon the last time I purchased shapewear and would definitely buy again. These are of heavier construction and don’t roll down. I wear these to work but also underneath my breeches for lessons and shows. They are comfortable and have held up very well with laundering.

Be sure what you’re wearing as an under layer is not slippery against your breeches. I did that once with silky-type “long johns” and slid all over the place.

@FatCatFarm thank you so much for the recommendation. I appreciate it!

I’m a little concerned about this! I haven’t ever worn an under layer with breeches before so I don’t know how it’s going to go!

Yes, I wear spanx riding all the time and have no issues.
I lost a large amount of weight and what remains I have been toning for years now but it just won’t go away. The way I see it is I wear special sports bras to reduce bounce, so I do the same for that remaining fat. It does help. I prefer to wear spanx, but typically leave it for lessons/shows.

Can you link the specific Spanx you wear? I’m overwhelmed with all of the choices!

I purchased a pair of “shapers” from Walmart which I wear for shows; it keeps things smooth as well as hiding my underwear through my white breeches! One pair was the usual very tight fit, but when I went back for another pair they only had 1 size up. I found that to actually be far more comfortable - they were still slim enough to keep things smooth, but do not restrict my riding.

@HeyJealousy I think these are the ones.

Make sure you pull the waste way up so it sits over or under your bra. It’s awesome. Then I also pull the legs down a little so there aren’t big creased under my breeches.

Don’t let that shit stop you. Dress to be comfortable and to ride effectively. I hereby curse anyone who judges you by your shape - that person will forever have that one mistake that ruins an otherwise perfect round/ride/test.

Seriously, do your best to be healthy, and go ride.

Are you trying to smooth your waistline or your bottom/thighs? Not sure why you’d wear Spanx pants if the issue is your waistline. This support top will smooth everything above your belt as well as a few inches below.
Yes, all of those things that don’t go over your shoulders will roll down and bunch.
I have one and it’s very comfortable, love it under sheer sweaters- pull on though, don’t try to get it over your head.

OH baby, yaaas. Got those spanx under my breeches every time I hunt. Or the equivalent. Some do tend to create a little line around the thigh, you need a wide waistband so it doesn’t roll on you. You need that shaping to make your butt look superb.

Super, thank you so much! I’ve ordered a pair!

I wear Jockey Slipshorts. They come in several lengths and some have more tummy control than others. I have gotten to where I wear these every day under all types of clothing, not just under breeches. I just don’t sleep in them. No lines to worry about and are super comfortable. I found the spanx to restrictive and they would often roll down at the waist. You can find Jockeys at Target, Kohls, online, etc. Much cheaper than Spanx too.

Just be aware that with the shapeware shorts, they can leave a mark across your thighs showing where the shorts end, and that really bugs me which is why I bought a couple of pairs that go all the way down to my calves so that I have a smooth line from torso to below the knee, particularly under something rather form fitting like breeches.

Yep…I hate the thigh line. I do wear them at home riding alone, but not at shows, lessons, etc.

Yes, the line sucks! I pull the top up over my bra, then pull the bottoms down as far as I can and that helps to reduce the lines.

If the tummy is the only area of concern, you could try a bodysuit. I picked up a generic brand shape-wear bodysuit at Walmart after gaining weight, to smooth things out so that my show coat would fit better. It worked great and stayed put.
