Spanx and riding?

That’s a great idea!

How do you pee with a body suit on, especially if you are in a portapotty and trying not to touch anything?

Yeah, inquiring minds wanna know. I’ve got a couple, and if you have to go, you basically have to undress, which is a HUGE PITA! Would NOT want to attempt that in a port-a-potty.

Lol! The one I wear has snaps at the bottom that open up, so no undressing required! I was worried the snaps might be uncomfortable when I bought the suit, but I didn’t notice them at all when I wore it and rode in it.

Where did you get yours, if you don’t mind me asking?

@HeyJealousy
I got mine at Walmart a couple of years ago. I think it is similar to this one, in beige: https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/cupid-i…/6000195405322

I also wear spanx that come down below my knees under my whites…smooths all the cellulite plus no underwear showing through! As far as I’m concerned, spanx are one of the greatest inventions ever!

Thank you!!

I show in one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Maidenform-Flexees-Womens-Shapewear-Torsette/dp/B0055X1OFW/ref=sr_1_5?crid=4HPIN1S2X87S&keywords=maidenform%2Bflexees%2Bshapewear%2Btank&qid=1567174390&s=gateway&sprefix=maidenform%2Bflexees%2Bshapewear%2Caps%2C246&sr=8-5&th=1

I got tired of getting stomach-roll-filled photos from the show photographer as I was patting my horse on the way out of the ring!

I didn’t like the feel of my breeches gripping the saddle separately from the shaper gripping me. I just didn’t feel secure. Whatever you try, ride in it a good bit and see how it feels to you.

I have never heard of anything like this. Sounds like an awful way to spend time riding.

Wearing pantyhose was bad enough when I wore a dress or skirt and I wasn’t trying to hide any bulges!

How can you breathe or move with that stuff on? Especially in the warm weather???

I vote for loving your body the way it is and be comfortable!!

Am I correct in assuming George Morris had a lot to do with the idea that hunt seat riding girls/women have to be as thin as high fashion models?

No, you’re not correct. George Morris didn’t invent all evil.
Google “twiggy”, the model, the Virginia Slims ads directed at Tennis players, bikinis, the mini etc.
Being slim was the edict of those times, the 1960s and it spilled out into everything including sports. It hasn’t changed much since then.

I think up until WWII many Americans were under weight and the military started to get involved with nutrition
at that time.

You are right about Twiggy and being thin. Then in the 90s the “heroin” look became popular. It was even worse.
More recently it seems that a more healthy weight is being pushed in fashion, but that was a few years ago and the emaciated look has never really left us as the ideal.

Really glad to know GM didn’t start it. Thanks.

I bought these when I was having issues with my back to provide a little extra support. The plus is that they do smooth out the bulges and are perforated to help keep them somewhat cooler.

They arent the easiest to get on due to all the hooks ( I have to look in a mirror to put them on) . Since they aren’t a silky type of fabric,my breeches don’t slide down like they do with some of the waist shaper materials.

I have a pair of high-waisted shapewear shorts from Target that I wear under my white breeches for shows. They come down to just above my knees. I can’t remember which brand specifically. They smooth the pooch and also prevent see-through problems. They aren’t silky, more of a spandex/cottony material. I find them perfectly fine to ride in; I really don’t notice that I’m wearing them.

I am so happy to have found this thread. Women of a certain age, no matter how active, sometimes end up with a bit of “jelly roll” around our middles. I’m fit (getting fitter!), in good weight, but middle age, menopause and life have given me a tummy roll. I wear a safety vest for all rides and let me tell you, that creates a special look: breeches push chub up, vest pushes it down-- and then the tire appears wrapped around me. Awesome!

Lots of good ideas to smooth the look and create a sharp silhouette that doesn’t distract. And yes, we are a sport driven both by effective riding and an athletic image.

@candyappy and @Frosty M - It’s not about trying to fit into GM’s ideal “thin” rider. I have never been that, I will never be that, and I don’t care about it as a whole. But as Calvincrowe pointed out, a lot of us hang onto a little extra whether we’re skinny or fat. Even at my fittest/skinniest, I still have a lovely little roll that shows up when I’m bent over patting a horse or when I’m in my heavier stages, shows up over jumps thanks to the new high tech fabrics that don’t do all the favors that old button down shirts did. I am perfectly fine with my body and have zero interest in trying to get down to a zero body fat state. But that doesn’t mean that I have to be perfectly happy with my pictures one way versus the other. There’s a lot of space between “loving my body” and “thinking I am the sum total of perfection.”

So I’ll go ahead and share my difference.

No shapewear: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154527237018408&set=a.10154189026513408&type=3&theater and this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154527267233408&set=a.10154189026513408&type=3&theater (both the same day)

Versus shapewear: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154527235148408&set=a.10154189026513408&type=3&theater (taken the same week as the others)

And hey, I get that no one else is looking or cares (and if they do, boy do I not care about them!). But you know who does? ME. So I wear my shapewear tank top thing (makes no difference in the heat…I’ve worn mine in 100 degree weather and not been any more bothered by it than the fact that I’m doing anything out in the heat in the first place), and I stay happy with my photos. Especially the ones like these: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154527159883408&set=a.10154189026513408&type=3&theater and https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10156436052103408&set=a.487725328407&type=3&theater over the ones like this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10153433359568408&set=a.10153433355553408&type=3&theater

I wear Spanx while riding, too. I wear the uber high-waisted ones that come up to just below my boobs, but wear the traditional underwear silhouette, not the biker short length. I figure that if we as a sport accept panty lines, then I don’t have to wear the longer ones.

As a junior I developed an eating disorder… so I carry a lot of baggage about my body. Spanx and their ilk help me feel less anxious and self conscious and let me focus on my ride. They do suck when it is 90+ degrees and humid, though. Am on the hunt for breeches that do double duty…
