Spanx and riding?

M’kay girlies, if you’re under age about 47, then this may not apply to you, but when you get the 50 side of 40, your body starts betraying you. Even if you are relatively slim, you start loosing muscle mass, and especially in your thighs you start getting dimples from that; and if you’re blessed with the ultimate evil, cellulite, it only gets worse. Part of aging unfortunately is that gravity causes your skin to loosen and couple that with age related loss of muscle mass, and, just damn. Add form fitting light breeches and in certain light, it ain’t pretty. While I am not ashamed of it, it doesn’t mean I particularly like it, hence the shapewear to help smooth it all out.

The ones on Amazon I posted a link to above are a little bit heavier than Spanx, which I prefer because they do not run. The two pair of Spanx I bought were more expensive, thinner, and they ran after a few uses. So I bought a couple of pair of those and they’ve been just the thing. Yes, they do add another layer on a hot day, but at least I don’t look like a raisin. I’ll put up with it for a smoother look in my breeches. They’re lycra but not like wearing slippery support hose at all, so I haven’t experienced any sliding layers that others complained about. I’ve found that with looser fitting, thicker and pleated breeches, I can get away with the shorter version that stops just above my knees without showing the tell tale line. But if I’m wearing more form fitting breeches, I go with the longer version that stops past my knees.

@PNWjumper I thought you looked fine without the shape wear? In fact I can’t tell a difference in the pictures?

No matter what I didn’t mean to be critical. It wasn’t my intention at all. I was just thinking how uncomfortable something like that must be? All that is flattened out has to go somewhere??

For me it’s the extra layer of “warmth management material” in my stomach that hangs out over my belt when I’m bent over. Again, I don’t care if other people notice it in my photos, because whether they do or not, I sure do! And the tank top that I wear isn’t noticeable to me at all…it’s not restrictively tight and isn’t uncomfortable. I can’t address whether it would be uncomfortable for anyone else, though. Maybe having kids left room to compress my extra fat into???

PNWJumper - you ride beautifully - lovely leg, eyes up, and crotch not ahead of the pommel, soft hand.

Once I bought some of the brand name Spanx for a wedding (after seeing Oprah recommend them!) I nearly died
they were so uncomfortable. Resolved to value freedom over tummy bulges.
