Speaking of colors, is this coat too blingy for dressage?

I ordered this hunt coat and wanted to wear it for dressage (with a burgundy saddle pad). Don’t know about the dark pink piping though.

I was planning on wearing it to a schooling combined test this weekend, although my dressage trainer will be with me and I don’t want to horrify her lol!

I treat schooling shows generally like any rated shows (there are Schooling Shows EEK factor and Schooling Shows that follow USEF/USDF rules.

Somewhere on here recently this type color coat was discussed, with what seemed like a 50/50 split on traditionalists vs let’s have some fun w/ it .

Think it’s on the conservative side compared to what’s out there these days. But it kind of depends on where you are showing and against whom. Hate to say but depends on how well you ride too, if you usually do well, you can push the edges more then one who struggles and needs any help they can get by dressing totally conservative.

Please note that those are the dressage rules, the eventing rules are different and just say “dark color or tweed” for coats. I think you’re probably okay unless you run into a really, really anal TD, as that looks pretty dark.

That said, OP, I’m guessing you’re going to DVCTA/ Windurra, and I’m sure you’ll be fine there. I went last year and I’m pretty sure I rode in my fleece and a vest.

I adore that wine color! What color is your horse?

Yes, I dressed casual last year too, but was going to play dress-up this year! But do you think it will be ok for recognized shows?

Good point. Thought this was on Dressage Forum.

Page 35. Like others have said, depends on different things, you could always email the show and ask.

I sent the link to my dressage trainer and she liked it. She said f*#% the haters lol! (not referring to anyone here; I didn’t tell her I was surveying other opinions).

Oh, that coat is gorgeous! I hope you have pale red hair and hazel eyes to go with it! Wear it and make everyone wish they had one!!??

Love it!!! If it helps I got a ton of compliments on my purple coat. I’m thinking of having it tailored to fit a bit better, but the darn thing is so hot that I purchased an actual coat for shows.

Italia Show Coat

I like it, it’s light and comfy, and not just boring black. Although, have y’all seen the Annie’s show coats?! LOVE!!

From the picture you both look lovely in that color. I say go for it!!

Good luck this weekend - have a great ride!

Can you let us know how dark it is and post pics?? I really want to buy it but am scared that it will be too light.

It is a pretty dark burgundy. I was a bit worried too because of the color name (berry). I will try to get some pictures outside tomorrow.

Thanks!

In full support of a burgundy coat! I love mine with my light gray FITS… now if only I could fit into them again…

My rule of thumb is that I will dress myself up if the horse is not flashy. In this I stance I would say that your horse is very loud and I would stay with black and white dress/pad.

Same with bing broadbands. If the horse has a lot of chrome I stay away from them because it distracts from the natural beauty of the animal.

I agree he would look ridiculous in a blingy browband! Although my 5 YO bay has a lot of chrome, and I think he will look nice in a (tasteful) blingy browband. He’s just a more elegant looking horse.

Well, I am going to go for it. Although last week we got an “eye-catching pair” comment from the judge, and I was just wearing a burgundy quarter zip with khaki breeches and the burgundy pad. So you may be right purplenurple!

I might wear it if my horse is lame…sorta like a really short skirt for an FEI jog if you’re worried about getting spun.

it will be interesting to see if this red catches on in USDF as it has in jumpers. I’m torn on this. I wouldn’t use a burgundy pad though. too much color.

You can use the VSD (?) scale thing to see if the values have the correct % saturation and therefore are legal.

Ex: people who ride USDF in french blue jackets use white pads and everything else is conservative.

Caviat: straight dressage here, from black and white 90s-ville. Still adjusting to color! ha!
