Special Report: At Home with "Normal" Moorlands Totilas
My suggestion? Buy Totilas. Deal with it yourself. See how far you get.
He would have always been turned out so it wouldn’t have been a problem:D

So buy his clone, raise him perfectly your way, and prove it.

Don’t believe in Cloning but my 40 years of experience tells me the odds are on my side;)

so what if he is - they only dangerous in the wrong hands and by the inexpereinced people some havethem as tool and only come out when needed
Agree.

But forcing a horses head to the chest with draw reins is just brutal, no matter how experienced a rider is.
I don’t want to discuss this - but my good opinion about Hans Peter got clearly affected.

Well, peace, since you’re talking about a hypothetical situation, you can fantasize about it all you want. Proves nothing at all.

Like I said the odds are on my side:D

Sure they are. You’ve had a barn full of Totilases in 40 years, all of them that fit that they can work an hour and a half a day in collection and do GP and not turn a hair, all stallions, Dutch warmbloods from top hot lines that you paid 20 million dollars for apiece, had insured for mortality, loss of use and the like, and have at a top trainer’s showing much of the time, all horses you have showed in the top venues in the world.

I’m in no mood to argue with you and you don’t know what I have or worked with. The price of the horse means nothing to me.

He is most likely this way because of lack of turnout. Bet when he was bought for 20 million that was the last time he was turned out. My point was he would have kept going out once he was brought in to be backed. We can argue this point forever I am for turnout think it is in the best interest of ALL horses and some of you don’t think that and that is fine.

Excellent post J-lu thanks:D

I think that it’s a little too easy to sit back and criticize the top owners from afar. I feel horses should be turned out as much as possible, but I recognize that with competition, not all owners do.

I realize that to the extent that I’ve in the past made many choices to not do things with my own horses that would require them to be more confined than I would wish them to be.

I think that those who are so bothered and made so angry and accusing by this problem of turnout for competition horses, can donate money or time to CANTER or other worthy horse welfare organizations.

Now you are telling people what to do…priceless.

I am not telling people what to do. I am making a suggestion of what they can do if they are upset about this problem. I think you are just spoiling for a fight, you’ll have to go to someone else for that, but I also also think that you realize the context and the spirit in which that was written and that is not ‘ordering’ anyone to do anything.

Excellent article. I especially enjoyed the statements about different approaches to training for different horses.
