Spinoff: Anyone looking for long lost barn pals?

The thread looking for old horses has been a great idea, but it got me thinking… what about all the old riding pals that we have lost touch with? I have quite a few childhood barn friends that I’d love to reconnect with. Anyone else?

Totally.

I just don’t even know where to start…or if I should. (some went down some scary paths way back when)

Whether we ever meet up or not, I would LOVE to know what they’re all doing now though!

I’ll start. I would love to find my first riding best friend. Nancy Scarborough. We both rode in Severna Park, MD. Had to be 30 some years ago…

I have been thinking about and looking for my first best horse friend ever for some time… Kim Henley. I wish I knew where she was, I don’t know if she is even into horses now. I knew her when we were 12. In 1973. We played with our Breyers, drew horses, and idolized Secretariat…

Looking for a friend named Gil DiLouie. last known to be working in California at a farm ( Fancier Farm) teaching dressage and training horses. i knew him in NJ and kept my horse on his farm in NJ for a short time.

I’ve tried a few times to find Barbara Dawdy, who gave me lessons when we were both in High School. She’s lived in California, NJ (where I knew her) and then Arizona, and evented a mare called “Frequent Flyer” for several years in the SW. Last I heard she was in Missouri.

Would love to let instructor Tori Reynolds know what an influence she had on my riding! I came back to riding after many years away, having no idea how much I didn’t know, and she was always very encouraging and tactful and was a really great teacher. She was a student at Brown, around 1990.

I have been trying to find an old riding buddy. Stacy Henderson. We rode at KBF in Leander, TX together back in the early 90’s.

I got a call from her about 7 years ago and she was living in Alabama, close to Birmingham then. I think she would be 27/28 now.

Would love to see her again!

Great idea!

Anyone here ever ride at “Irish Meadows” in Skandia, MI? It’s no longer operating under that name or with the same people, but it was my very first barn and I was wondering if anyone else on the board ever rode there. PM me!

What a great thread! I hope someone is able to make a connection with a long lost friend somehow. I have a couple of friends I’d love to reconnect with:

Linda Popkin - Rode and worked for Foxfield Stables in Charlottesville, Va back in the early '80’s. Last I heard she moved to NC where she works for a racing stable. She actually was in Sports Illustrated because she won the first race she rode in and that’s pretty much unheard of. I believe she’s married so I’m sure her last name is different now.

Dawn Collatos - She married as well so her last name will most likely be different. She rented different farms in and around Albemarle County in the mid 80’s. She specialized in hunters and had a big bay jumper named Gin Rummy.

Ok, now ive looked and done a search…can someone tell me where the thread for looking for old horses is?

I know I had mentoned it in a thread about contacting people about your old horses…but I cant find a thread for that purpose.

Kinda a barn pal – I’d like to find Bill - last name unknown, who I groomed with when we both worked at Beacon Hill in 1987.

I’ll Post mine:

Anyone who rode at Tamingo Farms in Macdonough Georgia, also a trainer who once trained there, named Marty, I don’t remember her last name, but she was wonderful. Last I heard she went to South Car. or maybe North Car.

In Connecticut:

Alison Corey Cosgrove. I was a bride’s Maid at her wedding a few years back, but have since lost touch with her. Last I heard she was teaching at Coventry Equestrian Center in Ct. She had an Arabian named Nari’s Beauty, I think who had a filly by Hann. Gold Luck, named Galadria. She was/is a beautiful Dressage rider, but she also Evented, and came from an H/J background. I think she would be 28 or 29 now? She is also certified as a BHSAI.

Ga/Mich:

Coreen Jakobowski. We were best friend’s here in Ga, until she had to move to Michigan - back in 93, I think? She had a handy little TB named Cuddle Me Close, though I have no ideas if that was his actual reg. name. She would be about 28 now, I think?

Jessica Adams. She was the one who got me into horses, though last I heard she was no longer riding. She would be about 25 or 26 now I guess. Last time I saw her was back in 89 I think, when her and her family moved to Kalamazoo Mich. from Ga. Her mom was from Chili, and they were Mormons.

Betty Lambert, formerly of Monrovia, MD. I boarded with her back in the mid-90s when I still had my first horse. Last I heard (a friend of her husband went to our church for awhile), she had moved to North Carolina to be closer to extended family.

Oh I thought of another!!!

Pat Cole (though she has since remarried) She used to have a farm in Monk’s Corner, South Carolina. She had straight white hair, was short, and was, um, not skinny. She was also very eccentric. The farm name was Canter Merry Stables, and most of her ponies had the word “Merry” in their show name. I was a counselor at her summer camp one year, and showed a few of her ponies at the Seabrook Island Horse show. I think this was around '93?

bumping this back up

bump

Trish Wilson. We took lessons together at Brightonwood Farm in Maple Plain, MN in the late 1980’s.

Alright, we’re not lost, we just all dispersed out over the last couple years… I’m only 17, but was about 12 the summer this was taken!

Hope everybody can find their barn friends…
