Good thread!
I would LOVE to find my first trainer, Judy Dewyer (maybe spelled last name wrong).
She worked at Dunham Woods Farm in Wayne, IL in the mid to late 80’s.
PM if you know of her!
Thanks!!

Love this thread…
Squeezix, hopehill, angela Freda:
I too went to BRENTWOOD CAMP but it was way back in the mid 70s. I do remember the horse Flair. DO you remember the one provate horse, English Leather? I wish I could remember the girl’s name. She had been at the camp several years in a row.
heatherny2, angela freda: I’m also from Orange County NY. Angela, are you Colleen’s volunteer? I’m June from HorseTalk!!!
feisomeday: Was looking for Octavia Rappaport. I see her name admist Standardbred racing genres in Orange County NY.

I have always been curious about the grooming gang from Jack Rockwell’s The Hill in South Salem NY. The year was 1979. Always wondered what happened to Teresa or Theresa. Fabulous rider for Jack back then. And, Diane?
Also, curious about a show boarder, Beverly, who had Native Gem (we called him Lips which she hated).
We also groomed Sweet & Low, back when he was a nobody and boy did he go on to do great things!?!?!

Also would be curious to hear from Mindy, don’t know last name. We worked together in the 70s at Chestnut Bay Stables for Mrs. Sheila Adams.
Watchung Stables
Love to hear from folks who rode at Watchung Stables in the mid 80s to mid 90s.
Just thought of another…
Anyone here from Cimmeron (sp?) Riding Stables up in Putnam Valley, NY? What about Hollowbrook Riding Academy up in Putnam Valley, NY? (owners/trainers were Eric and Lorainne Sundberg).
Anyone train with Brenda Doneth at Lakeshore Equestrian Center in Holland, Michigan? I rode with her in the late 80s and through most of the 90s. Also looking for anyone who competed on the Lake Michigan Hunter/Jumper Circuit during that same time frame.
Also went to Midway College from 2002 to 2003.

I met Brenda once or twice in Florida via a friend–DB, who trained with her in Michigan. I believe that Brenda has been in Jupiter, Florida for a few years now?
What a fabulous idea for a thread
I grew up overseas, so I know finding some of my old stable mates would be like looking for a needle in a hay stack… But here goes… Any one in the UK know a Rachel Bone, or Sandra Dick (they could both have different last names by now I suppose…). Both would be in their late 20s early 30s. Sandra has a brother named Berry. Both spent time in Port Hartcourt, Nigeria as pre-teens/teenagers.

anyone know of Laird Gasson I boarded at her place in Athens Ohio. But she moved to someplace like Phoenix?
also, wondering about Octavia Rappaport? went to camp in Virginia, rode with the Rockbridge Hunt one summer.[/QUOTE]
I used to ride with Laird as well…I was SO sad when she moved away. I lived near Lancaster, and drove the hour to Athens for lessons.
I think I actually have contact info for someone I’d like to reconnect with, but something keeps stopping me…like maybe she would think it was weird if I called her out of the blue. She was my first trainer, Cathey Horton, and she left Santa Fe to move back to Texas shortly after she passed me on to a new trainer (since she specialized in beginners and western and I wanted to event). It would have been 1994 or so. I’d like to tell her that the crazy horse I had then has turned into the solidest of solid citizens, and I turned into a decent rider and a good student myself, so all her effort wasn’t wasted. I guess I should just call the number I found for her through Google (with the unusual spelling of the first name, I know it’s her) and see if it’s her–why wait for an occasion?
Now that I’m living in MA, I wonder how many people there are around here who knew my first real eventing trainer, Carol Nichols, back in the 80s and early 90s. She ran the equestrian program at Mount Holyoke for quite a while. I haven’t exactly lost track of her–I know people who know where she is, and I think she’s working at a therapeutic riding center in Montana (or at least was at one time), but it would be fun to meet people who knew her before I did.
Various other people I should have kept track of and haven’t: Lorraine Perrault, a trainer I met through Radnor PC around 1998; Melissa Christian (I think that’s her last name?), a groom for some people who visited Aiken from Connecticut when I worked for Robert Hall; and most of all, someone I doubt anyone here will know, one of my best friends, Tess Baird.
Tess got married and I cannot for the life of me recall her husband’s last name, and the phone number I have for her is long dead. She called me when my mother was dying to tell me her younger brother had died in a car accident, and when my mother died a few weeks later, I felt terrible calling and telling her about it since she was still reeling from her brother’s death…and then by the time I called her, she had moved. I know she knows she can still get in touch with me at my address and phone number I’ve had my whole life, even though I’m not physically living there right now, so I keep hoping she will call or write someday.
LAKEVILLE STABLES on long island. Any of us left?

I know DB! My mom and her are very good friends. I visited her when she was in Wellington but wasn’t able to go with my mom to visit her in Aiken.
I knew that Brenda had moved to Jupiter, that’s when I left the barn, actually.

Kansasgal:
When you went to Brentwood, do you remember the horse English Leather? I went there, it might have been 1976 not sure. Or um, maybe it was 1973.

Some horses I do remember…
Little Mac (stay clear of his left ear!)
Jeep
Fred (King’s Ransom)
Steamboat
Katy
Optical Illusion… old steeple chase champion, great jumper, but bounced you around like a washing machine at trot BLESS his heart…
Flair
Gin
I remember lots more but not their names.
LOVED being able to ride such a variety…
My twin sister got along great with a privately owned lovely mare named Night Watch, they were a perfect match
I also remember a horse that only counselors were allowed to ride, I think TB gelding that we were told had been on the A circuit as a jumper, but had had a nervous breakdown and couldn’t be shown anymore… very handsome boy
Campers names I remember:
Maria and Missy Russo, from NYC
Cricket
Jolie
Carolyn Fries
Lots of campers were from NYC, so I was fascinated to hear their stories of the city…
Counselors:
One that stands out was Carol Ann Bradly
Maureen something, hilarious girl, very fun teacher
I can’t remember any others at the moment, but they were al fun and good instructors
I’d love to find my first trainer, just to say thanks. She probably wouldn’t remember me, but she made a lasting impression in my mind.
Her name was Mary Paige. The last I know she moved to Chicago, IL and did get married…
ETA she probably moved in 96 or 97?
