Spinoff- Thoroughbred Stallions; a list

Creating a spinoff thread and resurrecting one from the COTH archives that has long since been dead. Thoroughbred Stallions who are great potentials to sire Sport horses/cross for sport horses.

Most of the Stallions I am posting here are from smaller farms outside of KY with “cheap” stud fees by racing standards. These stallions typically have small books of mares so perhaps these farms would be open to standing their stallions to sport horse breeders; not sure but wouldn’t hurt to ask if your interested!

I have included links to each stallion. Feel free to post any that you like!

LENTENOR: Dynaformer son of La Ville Rouge. 1/2 brother to Nicanor and Barbaro. Dynaformer has been well known to sire excellent sport horse prospects with lovely movement and athletic ability. La Ville Rouge, his dam is by the great Carson City who puts lovely type on his offspring with pretty heads, balanced conformation and beautiful shoulders. Lentenor is available through Calumet Farm through Indiana. Lentenor has always been a pretty mover with a beautiful shoulder.

NICANOR: full brother to Lentenor so all the same statistics apply. VIdeos of him in training with Michael Matz; he looked like a top eventer out there on the training track. He is available through Shamrock Farms in Maryland.

GWS D’Oro. Son of Medaglia D’ Oro who has a very, very nice gelding in the RRP program for 2017. D’oro has always sired stunning horses, confirmationally. Tend to be pretty movers with wide chests and the more “warmblood look” GWS D’oro is 17.1 and a beast of a stallion. He is wide, strong, beautiful bone, very pretty head and neck. His dam is by Sunshine Forever (By Roberto!) and out of a Mr. Prospector mare. He stands for $1000 LFG and he’s located in Louisiana.

CITY WEEKEND: Chestnut stallion sired by Carson City (Mr Prospector x Blushing Groom). His dam is by Storm Bird and his Grandam is by Secretariat. Beautiful lines for sport horses. the stallion himself is very well balanced, great shoulder, pretty head and neck and a very nice topline. He is standing in Ohio.

UPTOWNCHARLYBROWN: Beautiful chestnut stallion. One thing I have noted from his photos is he is BAREFOOT which means good quality feet and legs. He is by Limehouse and out of a mare by Langfur out of a Forty Niner mare. He stands for 1500 LFG in Pennsylvania

DECLANS WARRIOR: Chestnut w/ Chrome standing at O’sullivan Farms in WV for $1000 LFG. He is sired by the AP Indy son, Majestic Warrior and out of a mare by Saint Ballado (HALO). Maternial line is also Vice Regent x Prince John x Princequillo.

Perfect Soul: By Sadlers Wells. Saddlers Wells was a well known Mr Prospector son out of Bold Reason mare and was well known for siring horses with athletic ability, movement, and the ability to do well as sport horses. Perfect Soul’s dam was sired by Secretariat. Secretariat being a wonderful sire to have in a sport horse pedigree; and this guy has him up close. Perfect Soul is a handsome individual with a nice compact build, short back, good sized bone, uphill build, and substance. He stands for $2000 at Darby Dan and I think if breeding for sport; lovely stallion to inquire about!

FLASHBACK: 2010 grey by TAPIT. His dam is Mr Greely x Pleasant Colony x Nijinksy.Tapit is siring the big money earners in the race world but I love his pedigree for sport and FLASHBACK’s pedigree shows in his picture. He is also doubld up on Secretariat and Nijinski. Beautiful balance, beautiful shoulder, head and neck. He is standing for 7500 at Hill N Dale but I expect that fee to drop over time as more and more Tapit’s enter stud. Not sure how big his mare book is or if theyd consider breeding him for sport

With the exception of the fact that he shares a sire with my jumper, have nothing to do with Don’s Folly. All I can tell you is he cleans up at the Royal, looks and moves like a dream, and is standing for sport horse prices. ($1,000)

FIRST DUDE: Not sure about his pedigree for sport, someone else can chime in about that. I think he would do quite well considering his sire is an AP Indy son from Coxs Ridge x Blushing Groom mare. His dam is by Smart Strike from a mare by a son of In Reality. He is a big, powerful looking stallion; he looks like a WB. He does stand for 7500 which is a bit more.

Page: http://www.doublediamondfarm.com/horses/first-dude-2603.html

HIGH COTTON: By Dixie Union by Dixieland Band out of a mare by CAPOTE. Dam is by AP Indy out of a mare by FAPPIANO. Excellent sport horse blood with him too. Love to see Fappiano that close in his pedigree. High Cotton is the sire of Currency Swap standing in FL. High Cotton stands for 4000 LFG at Ocala Stud.

Page: http://www.ocalastud.com/horses/high-cotton-1810.html

ATREIDES: Beautiful son of Medaglia D’Oro who is siring some nice sport horses. Medaglia D Oro goes back to Saddlers Wells, Sir Ivor, and Damascus. His dam is by a son of Wild Again and out of a mare by Unbridled (Fappiano x Mr Prospector). He stands for 5k at Hill N Dale

Page: http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/stallions/168796/atreides

DESPITE THE ODDS: flea bitten grey sired by Speightstown. Particularly like him for his dam who is by Cozzene. Standing at Heritage Stallions in MD

http://www.pedigreequery.com/despite+the+odds2

SEVILLE: Bred in Germany he is sired by the great turf horse, Galileo. I love Galileo’s, their type and width. His dam is by Seville, by Roberto. Available in MD.

Page: http://www.heritagestallionsinc.com/stallions/seville-ger/

SCIPION: By AP INDY. Dam is by Strawberry Road (AUS) and out of a Hail to Reason mare. Nice to see that stallion up so close. Beautiful stallion with a real look to him. Secretariat, AP Indy, Hail to Reason, Turn To, Seattle Slew all within reason in his pedigree. Stands at Murmur Farm in MD.

An issue with many tb stallions is unless they are approved for breeding by a warmblood registry and/or extremely successful in show jumping, show hunters, eventing, or dressage, many mare owners won’t have a lot of interest in breeding to them.

Lentenor and Nicanor are full brothers to Barbaro.

Thanks for posting this list. Hopefully others will contribute.

MISSION IMPAZIBLE: son of Unbridled’s Song who I think you cant go wrong with a sport horse with him in the lines. a google search will turn up lots of good reviews on him as a sport horse sire. Impazible is a stunning individual. Can be seen here (click photos tab)
http://www.sequelnewyork.com/missionimpazible/

Amanecer de Oro
http://www.pedigreequery.com/amanecer+de+oro

By Afternoon Deelites out of a Broad Brush mare with a double to Ack Ack.

He stands at Holly Hill Farm in Benton, LA (the place that runs a well regarded Horse Trials) and also stands four TB stallions for racing. Stud fee is $1250.
http://www.hollyhillfarm.net/offer/breeding-farm/

Pedigree looks as though he should have both jump and stamina.

Cinnamon Creek
http://www.pedigreequery.com/cinnamon+creek
Stands at Three Boys Statble in Arkansas for $500. By Darned That Alarm out of a mare by a son of Valid Appeal and has at least two lines to Owen Tudor/Tudor Minstrel. Darned That Alarm was a notable jumps race line, and this son is gray and quite nice looking in his PQ photo. Darned that Alarm and his sons have been used in sport horse breeding with success by COTHer TKR.

Diamond Lou
http://www.pedigreequery.com/diamond+lou2
Stands at Sutton Place Farm in Roan Mountain, TN for $500 or did in 2015. He is interesting because his dam is a daughter of Mokhieba and he comes from a Secretariat sire line. I speculate he is probably standing for sport horses because he was unraced and his sire was unraced. He’s a homebred for the person who stands/stood him. There are some nice sport horse lines throughout his pedigree.

Dynameaux
http://www.pedigreequery.com/dynameaux

By Dynaformer out of an Alysheba mare with numerous other lines that have done well in sport. He stands at the Seguin Horse Center in Texas for $500.

Pivot
http://www.pedigreequery.com/pivot2

According to the Blood Horse Stallion Register he stood at Clay Hill Thoroughbreds in Virginia for $750 in 2016. By Pleasant Colony out of a Nijinski mare whose dam was by Stage Door Johnny out of Dunce Cap. He stood for Event horses at one point at Miller Eventing in North Carolina. He may be one of the very last Pleasant Colony sons still active (if he is) and he’s only twenty.

Trickey Trevor
http://www.pedigreequery.com/trickey+trevor
Stands at Allaire Farm in Washington State for $750. By Demaloot Demashoot out of a Silver Deputy mare with very good sport lines throughout. Demaloot Demashoot was an iron horse who was able to pass that trait on to many of his get. DD stood someplace weird like Michigan and only died a few years ago. DD and Trickey Trevor are Bold Ruler line but not through Seattle Slew. He’s Agnes line tail female, and he’s got Relko, a staple in European chasing down there. He’s also got lines to Habitat (also good for chasing) and Graustark as well down at the bottom.
He’s in the 2017 Washington State TB stallion auction.

Boastful
http://www.pedigreequery.com/boastful

Stands at Covington Oaks Farm in Citra, FL (or at least is named in their listing in the 2016-2017 Florida Horse Directory) for $1000 (in 2016). Gray
son of Cozzene out of a daughter of Valid Appeal whose dam was by Noholme. Another Agnes tail female line. Tail Female is rather nice.

First Dude has been throwing some really nice sporty-looking horses. http://eventingconnect.today/2015/08/28/what-do-first-dude-offspring-have-in-common-a-stallion-to-watch/ While he’s not available to outside mares (focusing on competition career first) here is the stallion I rode in the 2016 TB Makeover. http://www.pedigreequery.com/saketini https://www.facebook.com/SaketiniStallion/ He’s by Bernardini, whom I love for movement and temperament. The damside is fairly solid for racing (dam is half to Real Quiet, and graded stakes producer), and while it’s not packed with my favorite sport sires, I like that there is a lot of success in the female family. I cannot say enough great things about Saketini’s mind and willing attitude, along with good quality gaits and stylish technique over fences. Definitely keep an eye out for Bernardini sons at stud, if they’re anything like this one.

First Dude is rather expensive for a stallion in the sport horse world–10K.

Threads like this should be saved as keepers.

Guaranteed Gold - approved CSHA, and his foals are eligible for COP’s with RPSI …

Really lovey boy AJ!

First dude might be expensive stud fee but if you were looking to buy a prospect from him, he’s worth looking up every consignment at the sales and on the track as prospects for sport. He really stamps them and is a very nice looking stallion himself.

for those wondering, TAPITURE, new for 2017 is a direct descendant of the Bonne Nuit lines. I LOVE his stride and the way he gallops. He might be pricey at first but the market is going to become flooded with Tapit sons in the near future so expect him to be more affordable in the next few years. I love Tapit as a sport horse sire and Tapiture’s dam line goes right back to Bonne Nuit so perhaps there is plenty of potential there! His pedigree is a bit different and quite intriguing. He is by Tapit (Pulpit x Unbridled x Nijinksy). His dam is by Olympio by Naskra x Private Account x Raise a Cup x Bold Bidder. Olympio was a lovely type of horse He is standing at Darby Dan for his first season at a price of $7500 LFG.

If you scroll down on Darby Dan’s page, there is a very nice conformation photo of him:

Someone on the other thread mentioned Say Florida Sandy who has since been pentioned and moved to old friends. He is a lovely stallion to look at and has been known to sire great sport horses. By Personal Flag who was by Private Account:

Photo Here:

Unfortunately there are no sons of his, most of his colts were gelded and never made much noise on the racetrack. I didn’t find any daughters of his which much offspring either on pedigreequery. Not to say there isn’t any but night be worth chasing down something from him if they are still around. His last foals were born in 2011 and 2012

BOLD BIDDER: standing in MD at the Northview Stallion Station for $2500. A son of Tapit. His dam is by Grand Slam (Gone West) x Deputy Minister x Silver Hawk (Roberto).

BUFFUM: A son of Bernardini (who as noted above is siring successful sport horses!). Bernardini is a AP Indian x Quiet American x Spectacular Bid. His dam is a Storm Cat x Illustrious (Round Table) x Hail to Reason. He is available in MD for $2500 at Northview Stallion Station

Picture and pedigree here: http://www.pedigreequery.com/buffum

GOLDEN LAD: I really like the look of this guy. ALso standing in MD at Northview, he is a Medaglia D’ Oro son. Built like a warmblood with tremendous front end power. His dam is by Seeking the Gold (MR Prospector x Buckpasser) and out of a Storm Cat mare out of a Mt Livermore mare. His fee is 5k

HANGOVER KID> Standing at Murmur Farm in MD. . Struck me as a different type of sire. HIs photos are intriguing, i’d want to see him in person. By Lemondrop Kid who is by Kingmambo x Seattle Slew and out of a mare by Rakeen (Northern Dancer). Fee is 2500
http://www.bloodhorse.com/stallion-register/stallions/169025/hangover-kid

REDEEMED: Strikes me as the type of sire to sire hunters, beautiful shoulder and balance. Available in MD at Northview for 3k. By Include (Broad Brush ) out of a Pleasant Tap mare. Photo and pedigree here: http://www.pedigreequery.com/redeemed6

Tapiture is not a direct line to either Bonne Nuit or Bonne Cause. He traces to Nimble Doll, a daughter of Princess Camelia who was by Royal Canopy. My old man Easter Spy also had Nimble Doll in his pedigree through her son Whistling Kettle. On the other hand, Princess Camelia does trace to a daughter of Campfire, a very well thought of sport horse line back in the day when TBs ruled sport in the US. Princess Camelia’s dam, Sunmelia, was also the dam of Sun Teddy, who is several generations back in the tail male line of Damascus.

sorry Vineyridge, I got confused. Yes he is a direct descendant of Royal Canopy, sire of Bonne Nuit

TWINSPIRED: By Harlans Holiday (Harlan x Affirmed) out of a mare by El Prado (Saddlers Wells) x Silent Screen. Not sure how his sire is for sport horse prospect but I like his maternal line. He is handsome to look at, not a substance improver but perhaps a good eventing sire
http://www.ohiostallions.com/Twinspired.html

VERTIFORMER: son of Dynaformer out of a mare by RAHY x Gone West x Najinksi. He was bred and raced very successfully on turf. His sire is known to produce very good sport horses. $2000 in OhioVery nice photos of him here: http://www.ohiostallions.com/Vertiformer.html
