Spring CotH hunting weekend in Virginia??!

frankly…

Frankly that “harbingers of spring” story has scared me silly…the robins?!!
Invisible grizzlies?!!
Left in the air?!! :uhoh:
Waving tentacles of death?!!
And we haven’t even HAD the weekend yet!! I guess our stories are a bit like fishermen who catch a fish that was …THIS BIG!!!

DRAT. Sigh. Insert bad words here < > and here < >
And here < >.
Because I can’t make it either for the 24th.
:mad::mad::mad::cry::cry::cry:
I told Betsy when I found out. Upset does not describe the feeling.
I can’t even go out with TN Valley this weekend and the fixture is 1/2 hour… @#$^&*… 1/2 HOUR from home.
Not to worry, SunnyMeade, we shall wear our Carhartts (Carrharts? CCarrharttsss?) and pearls in honor of the HP weekend. I believe I will put on my dark fuschia pink bib Carhartt overalls on that day. I will try to find a boa and tiara, too, and perhaps some fairy dust. No wait, nix the fairy dust, I will use major pony shedding fur instead.

I’ll try to take a pic of two of me as a SW VA sobbing HP on the hallowed day.
Please Ya’ll, have a stirrup cup or two or three for me.

Hello, Ossifer. Yes, I know I was TWR (tipsy while riding). Please don’t give me a ticklet.

Love this thread, makes me so happy to see people truly enjoying the sport without the pressure and competition.

I’ve been out on 2 hunts and did a hunter pace while I was in college and those were some of the best times I have ever had while riding. Would really love to get in to it again but current horse doesn’t have the brain for it, poor guy.

Hope you all have a wonderful time!

MajesticThundor, if your horse hasn’t the brain for hunting, I can assure you that the horses “on staff” at Hunter’s Rest do…since there seem to be some openings on the 24th, you can contact her through her web site if you want to join in.

Thank you Hinderella, I will contact her right away. Very much hoping there is still a spot/mount available.

Reading back through the thread I’ve realized that a few of you offered me advice when I was heading out on my first hunt, namely wateryglen. Thank you

Cammie, sorry to hear the little kitster is sick…I hope for a speedy recovery. We haven’t made any definite plans to get out to Coronado yet, but I’d like to get out there in the fall. I’ll let you know.

Priceless.

I want to come!!! (Insert ugly temper tantrum here) I have never tried hunting, and I KNOW DD would love it. sniff

I hope you guys have an amazing weekend, looking forward to reading about it!!

Come basseting on Sunday. No horse needed, just bring walking shoes.

It’s not far from where we met Saturday to pick up the mare.

I’ll send you my contact info.

Hunting Princesses Unite!!

OK Hunting Princesses! It’s all coming together!! :D. Weather gonna be warm (upper 60s to 70’s) and dry all week. Not the best for scenting though. Low chance of showers for both sat/sun. Afternoons.
Dinner at Watery Glen on thurs. (serving burnt ham…) then dinner at HunterRest friday and at Whickers on Saturday (for the tiara presentations & soiree state dinner) Husbands cooking with some possible supervision! Bassetts at a super location on sunday as it’s closing meet there too. Point to points on both sat & sunday (Piedmont Hunt in Upperville on sat afternoon and Bull Run Hunt in Culpeper on sunday) IF you can fit them in! So there will be lots of mirth and frivolity and food! It’s all about the food!! …oh…yeah…and then there’s the foxhunt… woooooo hooooo!!
Virginia couldn’t be prettier right now. Daffodills in bloom, forsynthias, red bud trees, cherry trees. And…the shedding hast commenced!!

Couple more questions.

Is braiding expected?

Will a bridle with buckles instead of hookstuds be an issue? (If it is, I am sure I can find one with hookstuds that will work, but his regular bridle has buckles for the bit)

Is a running martingale or a standing martingale preferred?

Branding?! Goodness no. Hooks vs buckles?! The only thing Anybody will notice is if your horse for a politely and so do you!

Sob. Wah. Sob. Boodeehooo. HooDeeBooo. I cain’t come. Drat. Durn. <insert @#$(*@%>
:mad::cry::no::cry::mad:
It will be too warm for me to dress in my deep pink Carhartts, pearls, etc. to mark the Grand Occasion, so perhaps pics of me with hosses in their pasture will suffice.
PS-I know WateryGlen will make a scrumptious burnt ham. I just know. I think she probably does it in/on her woodstove with Calais as supervisor.

Your event tack will work

Hi Janet,
No braiding needed, although frequently there are photographers that do lovely shots.
Buckle bridles are fine. The Masters are even kind when I have shown up with the dressage bridle by accident. (You know the blinding bling on that bridle:uhoh:)

Whatever martingale works best. ODH wants clean, tidy, groomed and happy to be out and learn. A big smile and listening is key. (But you already knew that one!)
I hope that you will come to the dinners, too. Please email me, so I can pass on the details.

Are you bring Chief? Your Irish boy will have a busy time doing autographs from his admirers. We LOVE Irish horses!

Ooops!

Since we have been changing things around for this hunt, we may have missed someone in the emails.:uhoh:

If you are planning on coming, but haven’t got the email info, Please let us know.

This going to be fun!

Enjoy, All!
Whicker, I’ll miss seeing you. If you are on Facebook I have a pic of me on my first hunt with TN Valley back in Feb. (Carol Koch Cornett). I be stylin’ in a 20 oz black melton I got for $70 :yes::winkgrin::winkgrin: from Horseloverz. Wooooo hooooooooo!!!

Ya’ll behave now…

Whaaaaa!??

BRAIDING?!!! :eek::winkgrin: No way Jose!
I’m coming (I hope…)with my outa shape-not been clipped-fuzzy maned-hairy legged-draft cross with my running martingale and whichever pair of boots fit my fat legs!!
So not to worry!
Just keep smilin’ and never let 'em see you sweat!

We’ll be there, with bells on! Well perhaps not bells, rings-dingies might actually be frowned upon! Everyone was so kind last time, it was really a wonderful experience!!

So looking forward to it!!!

My pone will also be there, so hopefully you’ll all get to meet him as well

Incidentally…will any hunting princesses like to take home some free range fresh eggs? I was gone for 4 days and came home to 52 eggs…they would love to find homes with folks that would appreciate them! No cost

I’m so glad the weather is going to cooperate for y’all but so very sad I’ve been traveling so much and won’t be back in time to enjoy all the festivities. But my life will soon be back to some sort of normalcy and my pony is getting stronger and more fit since I decided to be lazy and let someone else do all the work. But he should be ready for me to pick back up and keep him going. I’m hoping to so some summer trail rides w the various hunts so maybe I’ll get to meet some if y’all, yet! And there’s always the fall season, right?!

Enjoy everyone. Have lots of merriment and be safe!

JSwan, sent you a PM
