So I’ve browsed the local BB for spring Hunter paces in the CT,MA,RI and NY(CT/MA border) area. There are far and few between that I could find.
Anything I’m missing?? I’d love to get out to a few hunter paces this spring.

In NY there is the Bedford Hunter Pace which is usually on Memorial Day.
June 1st is the Goldens Bridge Hounds Pace in North Salem, NY. I did that pace last year. Beautiful territory!

A good starter pace is the BSTRA hunter pace the first Sunday in May. I loved the Oxford pace run by Tanheath the week after, but it’s likely they made a good decision to do another event instead as the ranger informed me the country is still under water in oxford. It’s been a very wet winter here in NE.
The paces will be posted. If you check out the websites for each of the hunts they will have their events and paces posted. Have a great time~! Don’t miss the September pace at the Big Apple . It’s a wonderful pace and there is that secret recipe for the BBQ chicken .
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! There are quite a few here I was not aware of. I have the list from the Equinesite but there is only one on that list that I can attend in the Spring. The King Oak, which we are planning on attending.

I know! Although does anyone know if the Myopia pace has jumps for the more wimpy people? I prefer 2’9 and under and I’ve heard that many (if not all) of the Myopia jumps are 3’6 +…???
Glad these are both still running I did them decades ago.
Please remember that all proceeds from the CANTER hunter pace benefit the horses. Racing at Suffolk Downs begins again in May . . . So if you have to choose, please go to King Oak!
CANTER is an all-volunteer organization, so you know your money is helping the horses, not lining someone’s pocket. There have been several threads recently about rescue scams with the “rescuers” lying about what they have done with the collected funds. CANTER is a great organization that is completely above board.

This used to be the case, but over the past few years they’ve really been encouraging the junior hunt riders, and have built a ton of additional jumps with them in mind. It used to be a little dicey starting a new horse (or rider) there (imho, anyway), but now there are lots of options at all different heights, from 2’ on up (including the big, scary stuff for which they’re known <G>). I don’t know what will and won’t be included in the pace, but would think that you’d have plenty of jumping options. Enjoy!
Thanks so much! Great to know. A former trainer had told me that their jumps were of very significant size so I always avoided their paces. I am going to try to make their pace this fall.
The Bstra pace is the first Sunday in May. The canter pace is the 18th and the Nashoba pace is the next weekend. I don’t know if anyone is doing one on the 11th (the usual THH day).
Lookin South you have hunted with THH , right? Talk to Leslie (on the palimino QH) about the Myopia pace and she’ll fill you in. I believe she did their pace last fall. I did a New England Hunts day with Myopia and have gone to hound shows there. Wonderful territory-you will have a good time.
Re: choosing one pace over an other… I don’t want to get flamed here but hunter paces were and still are the products of hunt clubs and hunting. These are a major fund raiser for many hunts and supports their hounds . I do think that groups that choose to do paces should be sure not to conflict with the hunts if at all possible.
The divisions for the Myopia Spring Pace are: Non-jumping, Junior Non-Jumping, 20", and 3’0". The jumps are all pretty inviting.

OP, did you end up at the BSTRA pace? Low level jumps due to the weather and it’s their style (it did rain here in MA) but the footing was great in most places and we had a blast!

Anyone from Norfolk know how I can get ahold of a prize list for the Norfolk Field Hunter Horse show?? (not the USEF H/J show) I’ve tried contacting the person listed on the website several times and have yet to hear back. I’m really curious about the field hunter show classes. Any help would be appreciated!!!
Prom- I didn’t end up going to the BSTRA pace, I had a late night at a wedding on Sat. Fortunately I did end up going out for a nice long ride when the weather cleared up later in the afternoon today. Sounds like the pace at Douglas was a success though!
