Spring Hunter Paces in CT,MA,RI and NY??

I’ll be at Myopia and ONBH H paces!

I just started going out with the ONBH (hopefully to go out with them tomorrow…pray for no rain!) and I’m lovin’ it!
I’m going to Myopia HP and then our next pace will be the ONBH HP on the 3rd. I’m on the “haffie sport horse” with the roach job. (If you don’t see us listen for the expletives followed by…DUUUKE!!..expletive(s)…Seriously though, he really is a good boy! )
I’d love to meet (more) fellow COTH’ers!

Definitely go to the Norfolk hunter pace- it was so much fun, and really beautiful scenery too! I’ve heard great things about Myopia too!

I’m planning to definitely attend the Norfolk pace on 6/8. I’m very excited to ride their hunt country!
I will miss Myopia unfortunately though, I am going to King Oak for location reasons and because I’m riding with an out of state friend who would not be able to go to Myopia. I’ll be there for the fall pace though!

Tanheath is hosting a Versatility challenge this spring instead of pace apparently. I’m very interested to learn more about that.

Anyone going??

Okay, I haven’t been paying attention…

But didn’t there used to be a New England hunter pace series? Does it no longer exist?

hmmmm…if there is I am unaware of it. Most of the New England hunts generally host paces in the Spring and then again in the fall. There is the New England hunter trials??? Perhaps that is what you are referring to??

A New England hunter pace series would be grand idea though!

I may be at the ONBH pace. That’s held at Great Brook in Carlisle right?? I’ve been to a pace there, it was nice. It’s a bit of hike from us down in CT but if I have someone to haul with I don’t mind distances.

versatility contest

Did you see the versatility contest on equinesite? It has the contacts for more info… I suspect the versatility contests will become more popular for people . I know it was a big hit at Equine Affair last fall.

PLEASE NOTE: I posted the wrong date earlier on this. sorry !
PM me for me info as well

Just wanted to remind everyone again about the CANTER NE hunter pace at King Oak on 05/18/2008. Information is on the canter NE website http://www.canterusa.org/newengland/hunterpace.htm

What a great chance to school the awesome King Oak course, and support a GREAT organization. I wish I could attend with my OTTBs (found on CANTER NE!), but I’m busy that weekend. At any rate, those of you that do attend please let me know how it goes, looks to be a great time!

HappyHoppingHaffy - I’ll be at the Myopia pace volunteering this time. My horse is sick so I won’t be riding, but I will be there to say “hello.” I’ll keep an eye out for ya! Don’t forget about the picnic afterwards…gooooood food. If you need a place to park your horse for the afternoon, call the Myopia Stables. I heard they may have a few stalls open for visiting Pace riders. 978-468-2553.

No, hunter paces, not trials. There did used to be a circuit. I know because I groomed in the early 70s for my college roomie at the now defunct Litchfield County Hounds hunter pace- Fairfield, Millbrook, perhaps Rombout, well, gee, now I am going to have to go and find an old hunt roster to see if I can recall who all was involved. Twas a fall series.

The Adjacent Hunts I believe still has a hunter pace series involving NY etc.

There was a New England Hunts hunter pace series. It included Wentworth, Guilford, Norfolk, Tanheath, Myopia, Nashoba, and ONBH. I think I’ve got them all listed. None of the paces advertised right now is listed as a New England Hunts pace. Not sure what happened but times have changed the dynamics a bit. We do have some Masters who post (Greg) . Might be able to shed some light .

We traveled to several of these paces a few years ago. It was a good time and we got to meet a lot of nice people. I think the price of fuel and the economy in general will affect how many can pariticipate in this. For a l-2 hour pace a 4 hour ride is likely not worth it to most.

Of course, a 4 hour ride for a 4 hour hunt…NO PROBLEM!!

From what I can tell it appears many of the above hunts still host Hunter paces in the Spring and fall. I guess I have just never seen anything collaborative advertised like a NE hunts pace series. Too bad they don’t offer such a series anymore.
I agree with gas prices though that many of us have to prioritize and stick to the venues that are within a reasonable distance. I would LOVE to get up to VT for one of their Hunt paces but I can’t justify the $$$ spent on fuel with prices the way they currently are:eek:.

Ah, yes, Adjacent Hunts was the name I was searching for.

Hah. A mere 4 hour commute for hunting. I should be so lucky.

I’ve added Norfolk to my list, too!

I’m having such a great time hunter pacing and hunting that I’m playing hookie from eventing!
I just decided to go to Norfolk on the 8th as I hear it’s so lovely there!
Myopia was a blast! We won our division! Here’s our pic from there…Not the best of either of us, but I still like it!

See you guys at ONBH and Norfolk!!

I had a blast at Myopia too. I don,t care if we placed or not (probably not, lol) we were in the non-jumping division but jumped most of the BN-size fences and some of the 3’ ones, what FUN!
Here we are cantering off after the last fence, I’m having so much fun I’m laughing my head of, lol! Even tho my Ottb mare left me a bit in the backseat at that last fence…oops!

I’m going to a Pace in Milton Mills this week-end…then I’ll try to hit the ones in MA, if I get a trailer ride to them! I loved Great Brook and Apple knoll, gotta do those again!

Does anyone know if there is anything at the Norfolk pace under 3ft? I know the flyer said the jumps were in the 3ft range.

Thanks

they have Novice Field Hunter Show/hunter trials there in which the jumps are 2’6" so some of these should be on the hunter pace course. You could call them to make sure - let us know what you find out!
