Boys immediately got in it and used it. To poop at least! This system uses washable litter pellets where urine passes thru them onto an odor eliminating pad. I’m not sure of my rationale for ordering it. We had hoped to keep the litterbox downstairs but the boys wanted something to pee immediately after eating so we added a litterbox upstairs. We had been using paper pellets like Yesterdays News so they were used to pellets. I think the appeal is no tracking and hopefully no odor. Both immediately got in it to poop. I went ahead and ordered more supplies from The Chewy. I think the transition was easy as we were already using pellets. If your cat likes tiny litter, it may be harder to get them warmed up to it. I will report back when they pee in it.
I have an old lady cat with kidney issues who lives in my master bathroom. It makes it much less disgusting having this system in there because she isn’t tracking clumping litter all over for it to get wet when we get out of the shower and stick in little gel blobs all over the place. I like it a lot.
I stuck my nose in it after 36 hours of use. You can’t smell a thing but I feel I will only get 2 days out of a pad instead of 3. I’ll check it tomorrow. They took to it the second I set it down but we had been using pelleted litter so this was no different. I ordered more supplies since they are using it exclusively. So far so good and you can wash the pellets!
What do you mean wash the pellets? Are you using the ones that come with the system or something else?
The ones that come with the system are washable. I can’t remember where i read it or in the reviews but the ceramic pellets are washable. They don’t absorb or break down so it makes sense. If you wash the pellets, your only expense once set up is the pads. I’m trying to think about how but maybe one of those mesh clothes nets put in a sink of hot soapy water. I think people were touting the wash-ability of the pellets is what makes it a cost effective method. A 7 pound bag of pellets is $13-$14 so if you rotate between 2 sets of pellets, you only have the pads. The system wants you to replace the pellets monthly. The pads are about $1.20 each so ill use at least 10 a month. Washing the pellets cuts the cost of use in half.
It really isn’t the cost effectiveness of washing the pellets that is attractive, it’s having an alternative available when I am out of pellets and too lazy to go to Pet Smart to get more! The company doesn’t recommend washing (they don’t mention it) but then of course they have a warning about cleaning litter boxes so they aren’t going to tell you to wash the litter! Lol
Wow, I did not know that. No way in hell I would do that however. The pellets do get “wet” and discolored over time so I toss them. If you don’t want to replace the pellets maybe get glass beads like you would put in a vase or the like that is truly impermeable? Because these are not even close to that in my experience.
I haven’t tried the washing part yet. But I like the system already. No smell and not tracking. Poop removal the minute I see it but otherwise, carefree.
I just recently started too. It took my cat a few days but then she started using it without much fuss. One thing I will say is that allegedly one pad lasts 7 days for a single cat (I think that’s what the literature that came in the box said? And you can rotate it halfway through). Admittedly she drinks/pees a bit more because she has kidney disease-- but after 2 days that pad was looking FULL. Still worth it, especially if I can wash and reuse the pellets some-- but she’s filling the pads up much quicker than Tidy Cat suggested. Also, I felt she needed more pellets to start than the kit came with. The kit came with 3.5oz and I added a second 3.5oz bag because just 3.5oz didn’t seem like enough. 7oz seems perfect.
Yes, according to Chewy the pads are supposed to last a week…

No way that’s happening for me.
Oh no way, I agree! I change mine about every 36-48 hours. When you re-order the pads, if you use mail order, The Chewy.com 4 pack is $1.10 each pad but the bigger packs are $1.30-$1.50 each. Where are you getting them?
I’m doing Chewy and I am just ordering large quantities of the 4 pack, since the per pad price is best (which makes no sense).
She has apparently been holding her stool and tried to do it on the floor rather than the breeze. If she persists I’m going to have to switch back, much as I like the breeze :(:(
Can you put a “sample” in the box to encourage her to use it?
StG
I had been. I think that even though the box smells clean to me, she smells the urine so it seems dirty to her. This behavior (hold stool and do it on the floor, eventually) is what she does when she thinks the litter box isn’t clean enough.
Just now she twice started to go in and then stopped. She’s definitely not comfortable yet, even though she is using it to pee.
She only pees in one part of the box. I wonder if I could lay a small/cheaper pad on top of that spot (full sized one underneath to catch spillover) and change the small one daily. I wonder if that would be ok with her.
It’s either the smell or the feel of the pellets/configuration of the box that she’s objecting to. And she always objects by doing the pee in the box but holding the poop until she can’t and then doing it on the floor.
And chewy sells these too

These are the generics Amazon has. They seem to be the right size for the breeze system
vxf - I had one cat that would pee in one box and poop in another and he somehow trained all the cats in the household that came after him to do it that way. Do you think she would pee in one and poop in another? Especially if you use that to transition to the Breeze system
Oh that’s a good idea! My boys do the same. I wonder if she doesn’t like the lid/edge thingy you put on top? Was your other box just a regular litter box with a straight edge, not one that kinda turns in like on the Breeze? You could try taking the lip off as it makes it more open.
Im cracking up because their 20 count is cheaper than the 40 count and cheaper than a 2-20 count pack however you can order 2 packs of 20 , just don’t order the 2-20 pack combo!
