Stedinger?

I agree too about any walk problems being tension. My mare has a very nice walk in her but often times it is not seen because she gets tense, tighter in her topline etc. I see it a home but bringing it out at shows is another story.

And, she is a powerhouse. Her chest has amazing musculature, and her shoulder and hind end…she is a super strong mare all around. You just look at her and feel the strength she has. At the same time, very typey, elegant, beautiful

Would any of you use Stedinger on an old fashioned, heavier mare, with short legs and a very good walk and a very good temperament?

Absolutely.

Yes, he would be a good pick for this type of mare, IMO.

I agree with the same concern about Qback except that I used him on a mare with a really good walk and all of her foals have inherited that walk.

If I had the right mare for him , I would use him in a heartbeat.

I have owned three Stedingers, two of which I bred, and three Quaterbacks, all of which I bred. Love both stallions. The first two Stedingers I sold, but have recently backed the third. She was awarded Special Premium Status with the GOV this summer with a score of 7.67. Walk is her weakest gait, but she has a really nice trot and super canter. Also is a very good jumper and very ridable. My young horse rider just started the filly back again today after a break, and the trainer just loves her mind and work ethic. She always gets off smiling and saying how smart and easy the filly is. I have the filly for sale and have a couple people coming to see her once we get her going again, but if she does not sell, she is on a plane to the Bahamas for me. And I only take home the most uncomplicated ones because they are not ridden on a regular basis.

As for the Quaterbacks, I bred him to three mares with very good walks, and all three foals have very good walks. I sold one, but the two I have retained could get “8’s” on their walks. My bigger concern with Quaterback is a mare with a well engaged, strong and quick hind leg. Stedinger has given all my offspring an excellent hind leg.

Have zero temperament complaints on either stallion, but have only bred both to my most proven, sensible mares.

I have had two Stedinger offspring and have had no temprament issues. The oldest, a 5 year old gelding out of a Corrado USA mare is just a doll to deal with, smart as a whip but uses it in the right way. Really bonds with his rider like a mare would. He has a SUPER walk and Super canter, although his mare had both. He can easily be ridden by an amateur -very supple and nice in the back and oh so willing. What do you want and I will do it type. Doesn’t want to put a hoof wrong.

The second is a weanling filly out of a more sensitive/hot mare. She too is a pocket pony. Very easy for her age and so sweet.

I think they are very smart horses, can be sensitive - but in a good way. The type of sensitivity that leads them to look to their rider for answers. not the explosive type.

I have not had any QB offspring, but he is on my list of stallions to breed to in the future.

no question that he needs a mare with good temperment and walk!

So look at that! I have seen some with good ridability/temperament, and some that were, ahem, interesting  my good friend (professional rider in Germany) took one to the world championship last month, and she never made it out of the warmup.
But it WAS fun to watch, and she was laughing about it later.

The one Andreas Helgestrand was riding in the 5 year old though (or 6 year old ? all a blur, will have to check notes) was to die for (except her walk, unfortunaltely) but my godness, WOWSER!!

that didin’t help? usually R lines has good temperament

I’m still awaiting more info on the guy I found; he’s on the other side of the country than myself. However, my shopping has probably been postponed anyway since I found an Intermediare horse to part lease for the winter  So far from what I hear it could go either way for the walk and the temperament. But, I guess that can also be said of any young horse!!

Here is a pic of our 6 year old Stedinger!

She is beautiful! I hope my Hohenstein mare gives us a filly by him some day!!

Thanks YL! Here is an action shot. The inspector had a Stedinger x Weltmeyer x Hohenstein filly in Germany that he was quite keen of

Your Stedinger mare looks lovely!

Stedinger is an interesting stallion and very polarizing I am afraid. I posted a video from Stedinger on Youtube from three years ago at Verden, and the video has 7,000 hits! Closely followed by a Stedinger/Donnerhall I have for sale 3,000 hits and then a Quaterback/Florencio colt at about 2500 hits. Just goes to show you what people at looking at! Off topic a bit, but people are very curious about Stedinger.

One of comments was in German and I plugged it into a translation site, and it came back basically: Once thought to be a fad stallion now proven to be quite a “crack” stallion.

And the Stedinger mares are proving themselves to be quite the producers in the foal Auctions.

That is interesting. I was wondering about that. TWF, who posts here, has a very cool Jazz colt out of her Stedinger mare this year.

The top foal at the Oldenburg Foal Auction this year was a Stedinger/Quaterback. Marne has a really special Christ /Stedinger filly. And the most amazing moving foal I have ever seen anywhere, is a Furstenball/Stedinger colt out of the very good Stedinger mare Andreas Helgstrand competed at the Young Horse Championships in Verden. And there are more that I am forgetting. But some very impressive foals.

Video of the Fuerstenball/Stedinger colt. Enjoy!

Wow, Wow, Wow! Thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad to hear about all these wonderful Stedinger kids. He is truly a lovely stallion and seems to also be proving to be a stamping sire. I will absolutely stand by my previous comments that they must be carefully raised and handled and started, and also that they do not tend to be horses for the average amateur, but I have no doubt that we will see some of them in the top rankings of the Y/H classes before long.

Dressage-Ryder - beautiful mare!!

Thanks Sunnydays  I am still very torn on who to breed her to in the spring.

Here is mine, including an under saddle video of her as a three year old. She had a filly by Rubignon this year (as four year old) and is bred to Farewell III for 2011.
