Stedinger?
Here is mine, including an under saddle video of her as a three year old. She had a filly by Rubignon this year (as four year old) and is bred to Farewell III for 2011.

Wow; I love this one also!

Mo,

Love your mare and filly. I have the Stedinger mare that YL talked about earlier with a super Jazz colt at her side. I’m breeding her to Rubignon next spring. Her first filly, Roanne, by Rosenthal turned out to be a great cross. So I thought I’d try her with another R-line stallion. Were you happy with that cross?

My Rubignon filly is very cute, and she will not be very tall. I like the movement, but it is not as expressive as her dam’s. I would have liked to see more presence and size from the cross. I put the mare in foal to Farewell III for this reason, and did not breed her back to Rubignon. I am hoping for some size from Farewell III, and for an active hind leg and refinement from the dam. We’ll see next year if my “genetic soup” combination works out like I hope.

Mo, I see you have used Farewell a few times. What else do you think he brings along with size? Does he pass on that walk?
Thanks!

I have not paid close attention to what the Stedinger mares are producing because I don’t have any ambitions to breed at the moment but reading this thread is tempting me.

I love the stallion. He definitely stamps the babies. I have seen others at shows where I had to look twice because I thought someone was walking my horse around! lol

Well, we have had 2 so far. The oldest is a two year old filly out of an Elite Mare by Fabriano/Wonderful. She is maybe one of the
best movers I have ever bred. She is very tall and could maybe be more feminine, but her
three gaits so far are really good with a
SPECTACULAR trot (she’s not under saddle
yet). I sold a yearling colt who was very tall
and he had a huge, pure walk. I have a mare
in foal for next year. I had heard Farewell III
needs a mare with an active hind leg, but that
is not a problem to find in my mare band, since an active hind leg is one of my requirements in a mare.

Mo, they sound great…thanks for the info. He sounds like he would suit my mare really well.

I have a Stedinger/Prince Thatchxx/Weltmeyer mare who was difficult until she was about 1 yr old and then was the best young horse I have ridden. She was very forward-thinking with quick legs, so not for everyone, but her work ethic and dressage ability were exceptional. Her walk is her weakest gait, her trot and canter are very, very good. She had a colt this year by Romanov and he is just super! He won his inspection and is the only colt I have ever planned on keeping in 12 years of breeding (I am in LOVE). His character and temperament are second to none. I do think his walk will be his weakest gait, but it is an improvement over his mother’s walk. One of the things they commented on at his inspection was his immediate uphill and forward energy any time he moved.

Last night my friend rode her 4 year old Stedinger mare that I bred under rather spooky, patchy lights in an unfamiliar indoor and, despite worrying a bit, the mare handled it beautifully. This mare was born rather shy and is very sensitive and forward, but has developed beautifully and hasn’t a mean bone in her body.

Here’s the video of the dam of the Furstenball/Stedinger colt. He looks very like her. The mare in his video was an ET mare.

Does Stedinger throw chrome?

Does Stedinger throw chrome?
I don’t think so. Can’t say I’ve ever seen one with anything more than a small face marking and maybe a sock or two.

Check out the ones on my website. Any more chrome and I think I could be a color breeder. Both my colts had big stars, big snips, and 2 to 4 large socks. One was black and the other bay. Their dam is black with a tiny star and 4 very small socks.

I stand corrected, I think that 2010 colt has the most chrome I’ve seen on a Stedinger! He’s LOVELY, btw. Do you have any video of him? The 2009 colt is gorgeous a well.

My Stedinger mare, Sofie, has a blaze, two hind socks and a half sock in front. You can see her picture on my site www.twinwillows.net in the mares page and in the photo gallery.

My second Stedinger has lots of chrome. His mama does, too, though.

Thank you. The 2010 colt, Schumacher, is now owned by Alice Tarjan (who also owns the recently licensed stallion, Somer Hit). There is a clip from him at Devon on my news and events page (first video as you scroll down):

I still have Simba, the 09 colt. I was working for quite a while with one buyer, a GP rider, who wanted him but that probably will not pan out. He is 2 now and I am inclined to keep him until he is going under saddle (and might keep him for myself as he is soooo easy).

Simba is one of my favorite horses, he is the one that made me really notice Stedinger and re-evaluate the Sandro Hit line (which I really did not like from some of the offspring I had seen). I dream about owning a horse like him but know I could never do him justice. I cannot believe someone has not snapped him up at that price, but I would imagine you are also picky about where he goes. Congratulations again.

How big do you expect him to be? Do the Stedinger offspring tend to be large?

I saw Simba at a breed show last year. He is very well behaved and has three wonderful gaits and I too can’t believe he hasn’t sold yet. Anyone out there looking for a future upper level horse should take a serious look at him.
