I don’t know if it’s the same in warmblood breeding, but there are many female g families in thoroughbreds known for producing stallions (Lassie Dear, Special, Almahoud, etc.).
Does this phenomena happen in warmblood breeding?
We’ll see what Sapphire does… she’s certainly going to have LOTS of chances.
Prior to being started, Sapphire produced a licensed, 1.40 son Temple Akropolis (by Voltaire) and daughter by Ahorn Z that is a foundation broodmare at Merelsnest. Her foals and clones with Blue Chip are too young to judge.
Not a 100% guarantee, but better than unknown or known but not so good bloodlines.
Well - I think I bought a whole lot more than I initially thought
In a VERY good way!
The dam of my in utero foal is Phillis Von Blumenzwiebel, by Darco out of Zoe by Graf Gotthard. The sire is Balou du Rouet.
The dam “fell through the cracks” for awhile, had name changes, papers were lost / misplaced and she was the subject of this thread on COTH a few years ago:
http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-202398.html
Now all of that is sorted out and we know who she is. Thankfully!
But here is the neat part as I have been scouring the 'net for the last few hours … Phillis Von Blumenzwiebel is the dam of Eurocommerce Ventimiglia - one of Gerco Schroder’s GP mounts

So - not only did the dam compete in the GP ring, her offspring did as well - very successfully - and now the half sibling by Balou should have every chance to be successful as well
I am counting down the days until the recip mare is due in June
Yippeee!
That’s really exciting–good luck to you.
Wow ! What an exciting foal. I imagine you will be jumping up and down waiting for this one. Please post pics like a proud mama when it is here !
Thanks!
Im planning on flying out to see him/her in June/July and will definately get pictures then, but knowing the breeder, she will send me lots as well!

I think why “breed the best and sell the rest” applies to warmblood breeding and not so much thoroughbred breeding philosophies in in part due to the length of what is considered a satisfactory performance career in each respective sport. If a TB mare has a year or two of wins under her belt she is a stellar performer.
You are asking for successful upper level competitors for warmbloods. By the time horses hit the grand prix jumper or dressage rings they are often 10 years old, or close to it. After this training investment you want at least several years in the show ring and you can’t afford to keep them home if they are any good since they are finally making some money. You can’t flush mares while actively competing as it really wreaks havoc with their hormones, and many will argue and suspect research will support that they embryos of those very actively competing mares are not the most viable. The timeline is just too long, and by the time you’re using this mare in her late teens she’s no longer all that fertile. Another key point is that her bloodlines may be OLD NEWS by then. The Europeans breed young mares so they have young modern pedigrees which is what the market demands. You have a better chance of getting a stallion licenced, or getting a sale topper at an auction, with a very modern pedigree. by hot new sire, out of a daughter of what was a hot new sire a few years ago, but is now proven to be a good producer. That seems to be the magic formula.
this post.
^^^ Well aware of that …
And herein lies the big problem with the USEF data tracking system and no lifetime microchip ID’s on any and every horse entered into the database. Things that people have been complaining about for years
From the old archived COTH thread and also from current info:
Was a jumper in FL, did some big stuff, but new owner does not have papers and wants to breed her. Not even sure of her originally papered name as jumper ppl can change names a lot.
I was told she did Spruce Meadows and some of the other big shows up north before she went to FL
As for, her honestly she looks and moves like a hunter, but did do ok in jumpers in the “big rings” in FL, so dunno.
I can’t remember all the details, but at one time she had 6 (six!) USEF #'s. We had narrowed it down to two eventually. The USEF rep that was so, so helpful thought that they would eventually try to use one number only. It was difficult to verify everything that was truly her show record or not because of different names and numbers and ages she was shown under. And, who knows what we didn’t find out. One of the names she competed under was “Silver Plume” - that was in the very beginning when she was first imported to a woman in New York. From there she was sold to somebody in Vail, CO - they did quite a bit of showing but again under some other name and #. Then there is a period of multiple owners. Anyway at one point she was owned by some very well know rider (I want to say former Olympian) and a couple other people and did the GP’s. Then she was purchased by XXX who took 7 (seven!) years off her age and sold her to one of their students - yet another name and USEF #.
So - what is stated on the website is what could actually be verified through USEF records under a name that was found in one of the 6 USEF #'s. And them after that - simply through all the digging and phone calls and emails, being told (and this wasnt me - this was STF several years ago and her current owner now) that she jumped in the GP ring. But after a point, they gave up trying to find out what name she competed under and under what USEF number as it simply didnt matter any longer.
But - accordingly to several people that did do the sleuthing, she was a “Big Ring” horse - just no clue under what name she showed under
I’d be first in line to petition for microchips for all USEF horses so stuff like this doesnt happen time and time again with regards to ages, show records, green status, etc
Then it should be a no brainer. You can’t verify the mare competed at GP so you should not be advertising her as a GP horse. Hearsay is not proof. It is blatant false advertising if you can’t show the proof to back it up.
I fully understand the issues with USEF, and I am all for microchips or one horse, one number, but that doesn’t change things for the particular mare. There is no shame in saying the mare was a Level 6 horse.
This exactly^^^^
I find the term Grand Prix to encompass such a wide array of definitions (anywhere from 1.30 to 1.60 in America) that it becomes much more informative for the public to reference mares, family, siblings ect by height consistently jumped in competition1.45, 1.50 ect. Congrats on your new little one!!!

Agian, you were banned from this forum. The mods have been notified.
Yes, you are Spacely. And of course, a liar as always.
The IP address can be maniplulated, as you know. Your right to post on this forum was revoked due to your actions. Think about that and maybe apply it to life.

Ignoring the snarky and unnecessary from other posters- your point on the USEF microchipping is excellent! Hopefully one day the USEF will realize what’s best for the sport as well.
The snarky is not unnecessary, it has been going on for far too long. You can see that I joined in 2006. I agree with the microchipping. What is your suggestion RanchoAdobe? Ignore how dishonest some posters are, including alters who were banned and friends with JB? So Truth or lie?
This cracking me up…
Lets quit deflecting the attention from TC and her mare hey? (that just won’t do!)
