Stomatitis and the Dumped Kitty - Nic graduates 2/10

My dad has a habit of placing his full plate on the table and then walking away to do something else before he eats. The dog knows this and twice now has licked his steak before I remember and go tearing off to the kitchen to prevent his shenanigans :woman_facepalming:

Have I mentioned my toothless Dempsey was the only cat caged in a cageless shelter?
Staff told me they had to confine him or he’d spend all day going from bowl to bowl & nomming them empty :smirk_cat:

@BrownDerby Thanks for the Nic update :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

The big goof likes to roll and roll and roll on his back, like a horse in a sand pile. While making funny meow sounds.

A definite chatter box! He loves showing off his growing belly and getting tummy rubs.

In my heart I have a soft spot for the grey kitties. Something about that first photo you shared of him spoke to me. It reminded me of a cat I had decades ago. He was looking at the camera/you the way this little cat of mine looked at me. He was my first feral.

I was fourteen and the farm down the road asked me to feed their animals for them Christmas week so they could visit relatives out of state. There was a feral cat colony that lived around the farm and they left me instructions to feed them as the wife was quite partial to cats.

I never saw so many cats crawl out of the woodwork from every angle as I did when I split 2qts of Friskies into three metal trash bin lids that were used on the ground in lieu of dishes. I told my dad about one of the cats — a little grey sleepy sixish month old kitten with crusty eyes who was always chased off by the others. The next day he insisted on coming with me.

Between the two of us we caught this sleepy kitten with a fishing net. The sleepy kitten woke up and fought us tooth and nail. He hated us. I named him Darwin. It was a feat of human strength that we even got him into a cat carrier. He looked just like Nic.

For the next two months he lived in the spare bathroom. I lived, breathed, and ate with this kitten. Before school I’d have breakfast in there and talk to him. I couldn’t wait to get home after school and read books in the bathroom with him.

He came around fairly quickly as hungry feral kittens do. Once he saw the vet his eye gunk cleared up right away. He was such a special, grateful cat. I’m convinced he knew. He would follow me around the house and sat around my neck like a shawl when I did homework or read books. He had this textbook “mewl” that he would sound any time he was looking for me around the house. For the next few years that cat was my shadow.

He is the reason today I’m involved with TNRs and try to save every kitty I can. I hope Nic brings you lots of joy @BrownDerby , like my special little man did. Thank you for saving him @BatCoach and thank you all the COTHers that donated. It makes my heart full knowing this special cat has a home.

What a lucky little kitten to have found you! And I’m sure he gave you much in return. :two_hearts:

Well now my mascara is running! Thank you for sharing, I just love stories like this. Kitties really do pick their humans and boy do they worm their way into our hearts! I just happen to live in a spot where there are a lot of kitties who know that I am a good conduit to get to their future people. I’m a feral cat dealer!

Nic is doing great, loves the slicker brush and is finally becoming a fancy shiny cat.

Today’s storm spooked him from his window seat so he’s glamping in his safari tent.

oh you can see the sheen even in his face fur! I love his dilute beige eyebrows. :heartpulse: :heartpulse: :heartpulse:

I know, right? For once I have a kitty that does not have eyeliner like Alice Cooper.

You can see him glow with health even only being able to see the top of his head. Happy Kitty!
