Stomatitis and the Dumped Kitty - Nic graduates 2/10

Removing teeth with remaining bone support is a pretty traumatic procedure. Cat and dog tooth roots are not like conical human tooth roots and their teeth cannot be just “pulled.” They frequently need to be sectioned with drills, and bone has to be removed. Think of the human equivalent as having a wisdom tooth removed.

Removing kitty teeth with good remaining bony support to treat gingival inflammation or infection is way overkill. My opinion, but it is based on my own experimental animal clinical experience.

I would pursue the dental specialist. I believe specialists look at/for things that a general doctor/vet may not.

Our Nic had his monthly dental exam yesterday. Tongue ulcers all gone, front of mouth looking great. Inflammation way down. Some swelling in cheeks still and inflammation in the back of his mouth but great progress. Maintaining his weight at 12 lbs; and he is a little cat so he’s a bit of a butterball. Next appointment is in December, he is doing that well. And what a trooper. We were stuck in traffic for 2 hours while a big rig flip was being cleared up. Not a peep. His show name could be Tin Soldier.

Demanding belly rubs pic.

What a good boy he is! Whenever I have one of my cats in a carrier, other drivers think I’m murdering small children in my car based on the unholy noise coming from the vehicle!

Honestly, he’s like a show cat. Baths no problem, cuddles and purrs when I clip his nails. Absolutely no objection to being indoors only, gets along with Tortie. Never scratches at the window screens to escape, and knows all the tricks. Expert counter surfer (I allow this, nothing there unless he wants to use the toaster oven), begs LOUDLY for his treats, and this morning was sleeping in his carrier. Who on earth would give up this cat?

A jerk. A jerk who doesn’t deserve any animal!

Another one, just for fun. Sitting in the skybox, waiting for the birds and butterflies to show up.

I love seeing him with tummy fur!!! He looks so dapper in his blue collar. :heart_eyes_cat: He is so grateful to have an excellent home! I’m glad he found his way to my doorstep so he could make his way to you!

What a good boy!! Snickers has a five minute ride and you’d think I was torturing her the whole time.

So glad his mouth is healing well too.

Believe me, he is living the (well-deserved) good life. Did you ever feed this creature? His name should be Jaws or Hoover. He eats mostly canned but when desperate scarfs kibbles. Tortie princess is becoming Rubenesque because he pushes her off the wet food and she has to eat the high carb dry peasant food.

The food insecurity is REAL with him! Poor fella’s mouth was so sore when I had him that his eating was unpredictable - on high pain days he would pick at it, but when feeling well he would chow down like a competitive eater. I’m glad to see him packing on the lbs!

Forgot to add - he could care less about the vacuum cleaner! Only my late Maine Coon could top that - he followed the lawnmower.

He’s watching Cat TV in Smell-O-Vision!

I wish all my big cat, Lowell, did in the car was make noise. He screams, pees and poops!

Nothing like being trapped in a car, in the winter, with a screaming cat who just dropped a giant bomb and there is no place to pull off.

I agree. My cat Bandit (RIP) pooped himself on his first trip to vet and oh lordy lord did it smell. But rolling down the window terrified him even more so I had to drive 30 minutes with this stench that could have been weaponized. Bless the vets - they were so kind and gentle with him and even bathed him (he had gotten it all over himself.) After that he learned it was not so bad and the soiling stopped but sadly the shrieking did not. Oh well - it was a step in the right direction.

When my Fremont cat was a kitten - around 6mos, we hosted what we called Orphans’ Thanksgiving.
For those who could not or would not be with family.
It was a potluck where host provided the turkey, guests brought the rest.
That year we had a friend who was our 2nd floor tenant in the 2-flat. He had a big Siamese.
He’d left his front door open & at some point Fremont got upstairs & had a Close Encounter with the Siamese.
Who, unlike the Disney version, was not at all pleased.
When I retrieved Fremont, he’d shat himself.
No other damage, but HooBoy!
He stank :dizzy_face::hotsprings:
So the party continued while I bathed a very wide-eyed & smelly kitten in the bathtub :scream_cat::soap:

That would be called Stanksgiving.

And honestly…cats. Right?

Jingles appreciated for Uncle Milo as he has his extraction today. Poor fella had a rough past few days, so this surgery is happening not a moment too soon. No more stomatitis for this household please!
