Thanks for the update!
I hope this registry is able to take off in the US.

There’s been quite a bit of interest in foal registration this year

The first newsletter has been sent out - if you would like to receive a copy, you can still get on the mailing list and it will be sent out to new subscribers.

I am glad to see this registry in the US and will be taking both my 2010 and 2011 foals sBs.

The sBs Newsletter, was a welcome site in my email, thanks Ronda. great job.

Thanks! I’ve signed up for the newsletter. I have 5 currently with BWP and am interested in more options for the future.

Love your stallions too…

Samantha

Oh good timing! I just learned about this and would love to know how it’s viewed here. From what little I’ve read it seems to have been a very decent registry.

Signing up asap!

Thank you

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have specific questions!

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe sBs, BWP and Zangersheide are reciprocal books. Stallions and Mares approved by one can produce offspring in all 3 books (per Belgian law)

This is the route I will be going with my BWP registered mare next time we breed. Playing in the AHHA this year since sBs wasn’t up and running yet when decisions were made.

Yes, per Belgian agricultural law, the three warmblood registries based in Belgium must have reciprocity/recognition as I understand it. So, an sBs approved stallion can produce a BWP foal without being consideredva “foreign” stallion, for example.

Unless the sire in question is a Knabstrupper. Chris indicated to me upon inquiry that BWP will not recognize them even if approved by the sBs. Meh!

I’m not sure if my question is OT but since you mentioned reciprocity between the Belgium books, why does KWPN-NA not recognize sBs but does Z and BWP?

Does that also mean that if a stallion is approved BWP here, foals can be registered with sBs without paying a “foreign” stallion fee?

I spoke to the KWPN-NA and their answer was that erkend studbooks must have top ten finishes in the WBFSH rankings (jumping, dressage or eventing) a certain number of times. sBs is close (finishing several years top ten through thirteen) and erkend status is a topic that will be addressed in the near future as sBs, despite it’s size is currently ranked 10th in Show Jumping by the WBFSH.

Yes.

"I can only tell you that in Europe, the BWP is recognizing the approved sBs stallions. I don’t know the position of the BWP-N.A. in this matter.

One thing is for sure : thestud-book sBs and the sBs-N.A. recognizes the stallions approved in all the WBFSH member stud-books. And the COLORADO SKRODSTRUP offspring can become a conform registered passport with full pedigree with sBs."

Perhaps you would want to communicate directly with BWP in Belgium on this matter.

That is why I was asking b/c of how sBs is doing in the rankings.

I apologize; I should have indicated that it is the BWP North American division that I was told will not recognize Knabstruppers even if approved by the sBs. I have leased a wonderful BWP Select mare from a fellow COTHer and bred her to Colorado which is how this whole line of inquiry came up for me.

Interesting.

sBs papers are available for your upcoming foal

If BWP are required by Belgian law to accept sBs approved stallions, but BWP-NA are refusing to do that with one or more stallions, doesn’t that jeopardize BWP-NA’s reciprocity with the BWP?

What if one of those stallion owners chooses to press the point?

What if the stallion owner or a foal owner by one of the refused stallions goes to BWP itself and requests registration?

If BWP refuses saying that BWP-NA is their registering authority in North America, are they not then implicitly approving the non-reciprocity and thereby breaking Belgian law?

It seems that BWP-NA’s actions are putting all Belgian sport horse breeders who register BWP or BWP-NA at risk! That can’t be a good thing for the membership!! It seems as though they are relying on the good nature of stallion and foal owners not to pursue the matter!

I am not hugely familiar with the Belgian horses, except to know that they are wonderful jumpers!

Could someone explain the difference between the Belgian Warmblood and Belgian Sport Horse? Why two separate registries?
