Suggestions on a smaller Event type Stallion?

I saw some SUPER cute Popeye offspring at Devon a few years ago. I think they are more hunter types generally. Although depending on how the mare moves, might not be a bad thing.

Connemara like WH Top Gun http://www.elderglenfarm.com/our_stallions

So is a cooler mind as important as reducing the size?

Thanks Everyone for the great suggestions! I am loving them all. The Mare is big, 17+ Moves really nice and has a nice jump. definitely an Eventer type.

Doesn’t so much need a cooler mind. The mare is a little spooky, would prefer something thats not spooky

There is a young, totally unproven Germany Riding Pony stallion named SF Spirit at Solomon Farm that might be interesting. He has a leaner conformation, not bulky, and he actually has some medium sized blood back on his mother’s side. You might take a look at him. He’s also buckskin - just for fun! They also now have Novalis, one of only two Jus de Pomme stallions in the US. Novalis, I was told by the owner at Dreamscape, was known for always being there for you. He’s not too tall, barely16 hands, but powerfully built.

If you want smaller, what about the Triple Twist son twistoffate has? Love those bloodlines and his big drawback is his size, under 16 hands. His dad sure could jump and I really like the mare’s bloodlines too.

Good thing some are breeding smaller - we 're producing giants these days…along with the weight problems on feet, and other soundness problems.
A smaller eventer is more catlike, athletic, rubbery, etc. and fit an average sized rider better. Sez me who likes a tall horse, but it is further to fall of, harder to get on and even harder to get down from after a certain age.

Elisa Wallace in GA has a TB stallion named Cor Magnifique who is 15.2. He did Novice eventing. Not sure how many offspring he has.

I second the Connemara or Conn/TB idea.

Harry is lovely, (Belafonte) but I believe he is only available via frozen. Don’t know if that is a consideration or not.

"Diarado is a very petite 16.3 "

I understand he is a big guy but some big stallions throw small for example Acord III who is 17 hands tends to throw children around 16ish hands so I was told when we bred to him and I thought Diardo’s mare line (option?? ) can throw small as also reflected by Corofino’s tendency… but maybe I am remember all this incorrectly and I dont think it is in a book.

Vallado (Praise) is blooded and refined. He is 16.1 h and tends to produce the size of the mare. His offspring have talent for both dressage and jumping and are “forward” without being hot.

Also, there are some really lovely sport pony stallions available that would give the qualities you are looking for.

I was also going to suggest Novalis, a horse I have always liked.

GOODTIMES!!!

Just saw he is rated 8th most successful Eventing sire by USEF.

That even surprised me. I gotta breed to this boy before he dies…

whatever happened to Pwynnorman’s Kevlar? Full brother of Teddy O’Connor and Coda.

He’s 15h.

Might be an off the wall suggestion as a jumper rather than eventer, but maybe Conquest II? He’s 16h.

I noticed on the FB Group -Event Horse Breeding in North America-that Kim Walnes was offering Gideon Good heart for breeding.

“An opportunity has arisen to use a Grange Finn Sparrow (sire of Sparrow’s Nio, Meadow Sparrow, Galway Blazer, Windswept, Wil’Ya Love Me) son for breeding. Introducing Gideon Goodheart, by GFS and out of The Lady Destiny and ISH mare that was closely related to Kim Walnes’ famous Olympic partner, The Grey Goose. Gideon is buckskin and 15.3 hds. Gideon is a stunning mover, very correct and has an exceptional temperament. Has competed in dressage. Introductory fee of $850, available the first week of July. He is bred and owned by Kim Walnes. You may pm her or myself. I would be happy to discuss the pony side of the pedigree as I have four by GFS myself.”

Royal Apperance standing at VA Tech tends to throw smaller, and we LOVE his foals for eventing. We have an ArdCeltic Art baby who is growing up at our farm who is VERY nice. We tried to breed to him this year, but the mare lost the foal at 3 months and it is an expensive fee with no live foal guarantee so we did not try again. :frowning:

My Royal Appearance mare is 17.00 + hands - but she had tall genetics on her other side several times over. Can’t fault her for willingness, ability to be a 4x4 and bold, kind and sweet, too. She suits me because I’m tall and like a tall horse, but - as I posted - it is about time some people bred smaller horses.

We also have an ArdCeltic Art baby at my barn who is absolutely wonderful! He’s hands down the most laid-back youngster I’ve ever seen, super friendly, super curious, happy to go to work, cute mover… he was cantering around the arena playing follow-the-leader on his third or fourth ride.

Another idea is Virginian Sky - he’s only 16.1 & the two fillies by him that I know are both on the petite side.

I second the suggestion of Belafonte d’Avalon. I’ve liked everything I’ve seen about him and think he is going to be a great sire of smaller eventing horses.

Out of the box but I have a huge crush on As Di Villigana, and I believe it is Diane Halpin who posts here who has had two LOVELY babies out of a TB mare.
