Summer is coming - breeches options??

Down here in Florida summer is coming and I am realizing the breeches I’ve been riding in (mainly the SmartPak Pipers) are probably going to be thicker than I want to ride in when it’s in the 90s and 100% humidity. During the summer I used to ride in workout pants and long socks, but I prefer breeches (mainly b/c I can wear a belt and clip my phone to it).

I do have a pair of Romfh Champion breeches that are more of a tech fabric, but they seem a little slippery to me. I guess it might be a slight trade off to stay cooler though.

So what breeches do y’all like for the summer/hot months?

Thanks!

I LOVE the Ovation Aqua X breeches!! The tech fabric is the perfect combination of being relatively thin and stretchy but still very flattering. They have silicone or regular knee patch and come in several colors. They are a bit pricey, but if you buy them when riding warehouse has a sale, I think they are reasonable (especially compared to other breeches). They have a nice stretchy sock bottom, so no nasty velcro to snag your sun shirts. I don’t think I’ll be buying any other breeches anytime soon.

I recently purchased the Ovation Aero wick breeches (also from riding warehouse who I LOVE). They are thin work out pant type material with the silicone knee grips and the big selling point for me was belt loops (they are pull ons but I think a belt is a must for lessons). I was able to try some on in a store near me first to determine sizing, but they are only $40-45 and I’m pretty sure RW does free return shipping, and they have a decent amount of sales so you can get them cheaper (got mine on Black Friday). Since I’ve only had mine since November I haven’t ridden in them in the heat but I am super excited to try them out as wearing basically any pants in the summer heat and humidity gives me a lovely heat rash so these at the very least can’t be any worse. I also have the Ovation winter breech which I want to like so badly but the way the waist band sits somehow makes me nauseous.

I totally agree with the Ovation Aqua X. I love mine. I have two pair. My biggest criteria was that I didn’t want sweat to show through. I personally hate looking like I sat in a puddle when I dismount. So these are wonderful for that, too! Ohhhh I love the color of yours!! How does the sizing compare to TS?

I think the sizing is pretty on-track. I like that color, too. Kind of unique. I have a charcoal pair as well. I really like them.

My Aqua X are the same size as my TS breeches. The Ovations aren’t as nicely made as TS, but the Aqua X fabric is pretty fabulous if you live in a hot/humid location! Mine are the same color as the photo.

I love the color also!!

Thank you! Good to know that sizing is likely the same as TS. Maybe I will try a pair out this summer during the Texas heat

Another vote for the Aqua-X. They’re my favorite “budget” breeches, period. Lightweight, comfy, don’t sag, and pretty easy to keep clean. They run true to size.

I like your green, too, MsRidiculous! I think I need another pair.

I have green and navy and charcoal! Looking to add black and white to the collection this year.

(no I don’t have a hoarding problem…)

I will enable you, and you can enable me.

These are SO CUTE!! And same here, no one wants to have to worry about butt sweat when they ride  Off to buy a pair…

ETA - Riding Warehouse has them for $30 off if you buy two or more pairs!

Does anybody have any suggestions for lightweight show breeches?

I got a new pair of Horze that I like for schooling, but, they seem a bit heavy for summer also the leg is long on me so the legs bunch a bit which isn’t a big deal with my half chaps, but, my boots no. I like the feel of the Horze and the big wide waistband, but, I’m not sure how flattering that big waistband actually is.

Thanks for all the responses! Sounds like i’m going to have to try the ovations. It looks like they have a lot of color options which I love (@paradoxfarm that light blue color looks awesome!).

How would y’all say they hold up to washing and riding? I love my pipers and how they fit, but i’ve started to notice that after about a year, and lots of washings, they are doing some sort of weird bunching at the seam of the euroseat (not super flattering).

Also, how do you like the silicone knee patches? I don’t know how I feel about them. Are they too sticky, do you still feel like it’s easy to get out of the tack?

Thanks!

I have a pair of the Romfh Champion in the light beige that I will wear at shows. They are a more technical feeling material which is nice in the summer. They are also designed for a “curvy fit” that helps to reduce gaping in the back (i.e. it fits my bum).

I’ll be interested to see what everyone else suggests for summer show breeches as well though

These are the first (and only) breeches I have gotten with the silicone. Honestly, when riding I don’t really notice them. Personally, I do local shows and I would wear the Aqua X in beige in those types of shows. Otherwise, I go through my closet and see what breeches do not soak up water when I flick water on them.
