LOL, no there is a horse vet group on FB where people ask questions and only vets are allowed to respond. It seems to be a great place for info or for those needed a virtual second opinion before going and paying for one. A girl posted a question asking about this stuff and there is one vet in particular, who seems to be more or less “pimping” the stuff. Looking at her page and practice page she seems legit but who knows.
She seems to have vested interest in the product.
Yeah it’s a FB “vet site” where people can ask questions and only vets are supposed to answer.
There are strict rules about what can be said outside of “the group” but I’m a little… Unimpressed with some vet advice I’ve read. Mainly when people directly ask for studies they’re shut down.
For example, a vet will say “abler products are proven not to have the right amount of omeprazole and they don’t work because they’re not absorbed”
when asked for a study to support the claim that Abler products are not absorbed the vets just say “well it’s not FDA approved.”
Said same vet very impressed with the Summit product.
Oh oh and they have been too busy to get out studies. They have been on vacation and it’s not just about " copying and posting links." Some guy who developed “the molecule” is writing an “Intro” or something.
Can you see my eyeroll from here?
oh and it was referred to as C4SA. Can thar help us figure out what this even us?
Yeah it’s not adding up. As much as I wish/hope she’s got the evidence to back it up, I’m definitely smelling snake oil right now .
I hope the doctor discloses her vested interest. The email I got when I requested studies from the website seemed to be from her husband(?).
Something is not bring disclosed here. At the very least they’re terribly disorganized.
Looks like maybe he took this C4S chondroitan molecule and invented his own variation?
I have no idea. This is all a bit over my head in the chemistry department.
Did you see that the studies at Cornell were studies but weren’t intended for publication? What even?!
lol omg yes. I don’t think she realizes she’s digging herself deeper. “I’m soooooooooo busy, way too busy to get you any of this pesky science or “evidence” you speak of, but I totes think you should stab your horse with this mystery molecule and I promise he’ll feel better. I’ve also got a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.”
In a nutshell. have you gotten a Facebook private message yet?
When I search for C4SA and chondroitin, I get a bunch of papers that discuss chondroitin-4-sulfate (C4S) vs chondroitin-6-sulfate (C6S) in various applications and biology. I think they’re just trying to sound smart by name dropping the type of molecule they claim it to be.
Vets can be shady and wrong and out for personal gain just as much as anyone who is not a vet. Sure sounds like that’s what’s going on here :-/.
Tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full.
nope.
Still? Geez  Oh, I might have forgotten to delete my deleteds. Should (might?) be better now!
That worked.
Well the vet page closed the post.
Chondroitin 4 Sulfate appears to be the substance of the drug “Condranol”.
I remain feeling uneasy about this product. Lots of dancing around the truth and “breadcrumbing” info when being specifically asked… Give a little and hope the hard questions about their product stop.
The vet pushing it does have a vested interest but will not state that even when pushed.
Agreed. If she was so against going to market with it before having this information ready, then she shouldn’t be promoting it. Sucks that their hedging casts such shade if it’s just a matter of being honestly unprepared. I do hope they get it together and can provide some real evidence, but I’m not holding my breath.
Also sucks the string was closed. I guess we’ll have to keep our eye out.
I’ve been using Summit Joint Performance for 3 months now. I have been amazed at the results. My 18 year old Holsteiner had been out of the FEI Dressage arena for 6 years because she was uncomfortable with the work. I had tried all the usual routes, joint injections, Adequan, Cosequin, etc…very limited improvement. Since being on Summit, she rides better than she did when she was 5 and she is happily showing at PSG and just moved up to Intermediare 1 a couple of weeks ago. I cannot say enough good things about the results of this product. I highly recommend it and know 10 friends who also use and love the product.
Interesting first post. Thank you for sharing your experience. How did you decide to use this product?
My horse was wanting to give me more but I could tell she was just not comfortable. I had taken to Brandon Equine Medical Center and had her totally worked up. Her hocks were in the process of fusing and injecting HA was not an option as her joints were too tight. All that could be done was steroids. Which helped for a bit but she returned to the same state after a couple of weeks. I went to the time tested usuals that had worked for me in the past. Cosequin ASU Plus and Adequan. Neither had much of an impact for her like they had before.
To be quite honest, I was desperate for something to help my horse. She was trying so hard but when you have owned a horse for 16 years you just know when they are just having a joint issue that is holding them back. I spent in excess of $2,000 trying to help Terra feel more comfortable. It was so frustrating as nothing was helping. I was at the point of putting her at a retirement farm.
My barn manager is a active Facebooker. I’m not, I don’t get into many social media discussion groups. My barn manager was looking for something to help her horse who had lameness issues from lymphangitis. She was chatting with a rep from Summit. She told me about their product. I was very interested and placed an order with them.
I gave Terra the first shot on a Friday. On Saturday, she was not feeling so well, off her food, lethargic and running a fever. I contacted the company and let them know how she was acting. They paid to have my vet come out and check her. My vet came out and she just had caught a upper respiratory cold. We had had a new horse come into the barn who’s stall was right next to Terra’s and he was evidently a carrier. I was so impressed with the company and how they were willing to take care of their customers.
Needless to say within 2 shots (2 weeks) I had a very different horse. Able to effectively school not only the PSG but also the I-1 movements. I have been a loyal user of the Summit product and their are others at my barn that are using it now as well. Since the respiratory incident a couple months ago I have become friends with Dr. Farmer.
As I said before, I’m not a big into getting involved with social media discussion groups. But, I came across your discussion and felt I should share my experience because it was a total game changer for me and my horse.
