Summit IM joint "supplement"

Jon Holling (UL eventer) just posted on FB that he uses and loves it and is encouraging others to try it, I guess he is sponsored by them. So apparently there are people out there using it.

I’m suspicious of any product where a trainer sells this stuff and gives testimonials because she says she wants another

income stream as she’s getting older and now pregnant.

I doubt you’ll get many replies from people that had good success with Summit, like myself, because this is not really a “hospitable” thread for such a post. LOL It does work for some people. Do they want to get slammed on here…no.

I can’t imagine anyone owning up to injecting their animals with something they know is illegal whether they were worried about getting slammed or not.

illegal? I do not think it is illegal…

It’s absolutely illegal. The FDA has cited them and ordered them to cease and desist. Not sure how they aren’t in jail actually

Here’s the basics:
Summit is classified as a supplement… This makes it where FDA approval is not required, just like your average feed through supplement. This product is not an illegal or forbidden substance. In fact, there is a very extensive list of sponsored international level riders in almost all disciplines that use it… but what is a sponsored rider? A sponsored rider DOES NOT receive monetary compensation… summit supplies them with summit to use on their horses. THATS IT. They share that they use summit in exchange for receiving free product. If you don’t like a specific sponsored rider there are so many that there is bound to be one that you do like

I had skimmed through the thread and realized that there was not a single company representative that has weighted in on this topic. Extremely one sided and most of the information incorrect, or extremely outdated.

My own horse has had his quality of life greatly improved, and while I’ve read in this thread that it’s possible to have horses do worse… I’ve only seen documented visual, and heard stories of the contrary. Not saying that it is THE product to use- everyone’s body is built different and some products work better than others depending on body type. If it’s not right for you, or your situation then don’t use it, however why knock it when you don’t have all the information? Especially when there could be an owner reading this thread whose horse and/or pup could possibly benefit from it? ”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹”‹

At any rate, if anyone is open to learning more about it, or seeing other visual testimonials please feel free to shoot me an email at gsperfhorses@gmail.com

it’s ok! Lol you are no longer the only one  We know it works- But that is because we have had positive personal experiences.

I saw the letter from the FDA myself. It mentioned they had repeatedly cited them for making injectables without going through the approval process.

Can one actually merely declare an injectable substance to be a “supplement”? I find that difficult to believe.

The FDA’s own website states: "The law defines dietary supplements in part as products taken by mouth that contain a “dietary ingredient.” "
Emphasis mine.

One of the top lameness vets in the country, who is largely considered an expert says it is fine to use, as does another big name vet who does “tours” with his services, and so does my local vet. All have reported seeing vast improvements in their clients’ horses. All say it is safe to use. I’m good with it. Go ahead and continue bashing. That’s what this thread is. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.

I’m not offering any opinion at all on the efficacy or lack thereof of this stuff.
However, as the holder of a veterinary license, I’d be loath to recommend any product which has not gone through regular approval channels, as the potential for a lawsuit from somebody who followed those recommendations and had an adverse outcome is sobering.

Forgive my ignorance, but is Pentosan FDA approved for equine use? I remember when a lot of vets were touting that as the next best thing to Adequan and/or Legend.

Pentosan is approved as a device, like Ichon or Polyglycan. It’s used extralabel as an injectible treatment for joint problems.

Adequan and Legend are approved as drugs, for joint stuff.

Summit is not approved at all, for anything. In the beginning, they claimed had device approval, but it does not.

Thanks, RegentLion, for starting this thread. I need to read it carefully as I am curious. I saw an advertisement for this stuff so I looked at the website. No research, no science… but direct sales? Mary Kay, anyone?
For what it is worth, I had a veterinarian (young) recommend polyglycan to me even after the article in the Chronicle came out. I was so thankful I’d had a chance to read that. Thank you, again!
I’m editing to add what is probably a really stupid question. Do sponsored riders receive financial remuneration and free product??? Whose to say someone really uses something???

There actually is no FDA pre-market approval process for veterinary medical devices. They do need to meet a certain level of regulatory requirements, but FDA doesn’t review them for safety/effectiveness before they can be sold.

But even those “devices” used off-label are worlds above Summit, which has absolutely no regulation or oversight.

Do you remember if it was issued to Summit, the owners, or another entity? Warning Letters are typically available online, but I’m not finding anything for Summit or the owners. I’d be very happy to see that FDA is finally looking into them.

No, I don’t remember who it was addressed to but do remember it said they were not allowed to sell injectables without going through the proper approval channels and then laid out that process. It said they must stop the sales until that process was completed. I thought I saved it but can’t find it on my computer.

Promoting your on MLM/pyramid scheme on here. That’s boxed wine levels of klassy. Gotta post that video with that affiliate link. You go #bossbabe! Make sure you wring every last cent out of unsuspecting horse owners during a pandemic. Anything to increase your own bottom line, right? You keep shilling that snake oil, maybe you’ll eventually break even on your own sunk costs. Probably not though…

DoTerra. Summit. Boy you love the MLMs don’t you. Do you sell Mary Kay too? LulaRoe? Do you host pearl parties too?

Love the houseguesting too. Don’t forget to log out of your cnd8 account before working on your “marketing.” Wouldn’t want to forgo a sale by forgetting to drive people to your affiliate links!
