Sunscreen and Makeup that doesn't run or sting if you sweat

What brand of sunscreen do you wear while riding that doesn’t run and sting your eyes if you sweat (a lot)?

If you compete and wear make-up in an athletic event (riding or dance or whatever), what brand do you like that stays on and doesn’t just sweat away?

Sorry, I see that sunscreen has been discussed before, but the posts listed below did not come up in my search!

Make-up ideas?

I sweat a lot and just sort of put things on and hope they stay. It would be nice to look a little more put together for shows though. Would love to hear any good suggestions.

My personal experience using Smashbox’s BB Cream and finishing powder has been pretty positive though. It has a built-in SPF of 25 I think. On top of face moisturizers with add’l sunscreen of 35. My skin was looking pretty crabby last year but hasn’t been looking so bad this year, so I think it has been helping.

I don’t wear make-up to the barn unless I’m coming from work. The make-up would only come in handy for me with shows. I hate the idea of looking so gross after spending all this time to make the horse look so beautiful. So I’ve begun wearing foundation/powder, mascara and a red lip gloss when I show.

I have a fundamental disagreement about wearing makeup when riding  Plus, i have terrible skin so I don’t need to introduce all of that stuff to my open pores while sweating and getting dirty.

That said, I have found the spray on sunscreens are the ones that sting the most. The regular cream sunscreens have always been good for me, sometimes I spring for the “face” formula, sometimes not. I am currently using Tarte’s tinted moisturizer and their pressed powder and my makeup seriously lasts all day (and again, my skin is oily esp in the summer). If I were going to do makeup for a show, I think that’s what I would wear because it’s not too heavy of a coverage, plus the tinted moisturizer has 25 spf.

I use a Neutragena sunscreen for faces that is not oily and has an spf of 40 and above. I try not to put any on my forehead if I am riding so it doesn’t get in my eyes. My helmet keeps my forehead from getting sun, and I put some on when I’m done riding. I only wear waterproof mascara in the hot summer.

This. I use spray stuff for arms and a waterproof for my face and avoid above my eyes. As for make-up. Forget it! LOL

I can tell you that Coppertone stings like a mother if you sweat it into your eyes, and it will continue to sting for hours.

You may try posting this in the Western thread as well. I know girls/ladies who ride on the AQHA circuits are used to competing in multiple classes throughout their shows and some classes call for the competitor to be a bit more dolled up - I would ask what works for them.

I would also look into Make Up Forever foundations and primers. It’s pricey, but the stuff works.

I’ll be interested to hear if you find anything out!

I really like Josie Maran’s Argan Daily Moisturizer SPF 47. Does a great job of moisturizing and sun-block without needing to reapply frequently.

It seems to stay put and has not streamed into my eyes at all. (I am a sweaty broad)

I use coppertone SF50 cream, and it does sting very badly if it gets in your eyes, but it isn’t from sweating in my case. Usually I get it in my eyes from it getting on my hands. I prevent that by putting on the sunblock, then scrubbing my hands with thick hand soap (the creamy thick pump type). It’s the only way I can get it off my hands. I take it off my face with a few wet paper towels, with plain Ivory bar soap. I scrub my eye area first, then the rest of my face, and a splash of water cleans the soap off.

Similar - I use Neutragena moisturizer with SPF every day.

I put it on before heading to the barn - face, neck, chest, ears and neck (I don’t bother with forehead because I either wear a baseball cap or a helmet).

I NEVER get burns, even though I have fair skin, and often spend hours out in the California sun while at the barn. I do put a heavier weight, rub / sweat proof SPF on my arms and sometimes chest).

As for make up? Eh, if I am HOT and SWEATING - I am not worried about looking cute.

I use this if I am going to be in the sun sun.

I also use this and have noticed once absorbed it doesn’t melt at all.

If I need some sort of coverage I really like this. But you do need a light setting powder.

I really like the Peter Thomas Roth powder sunscreens. They have translucent and tinted formulas that are packed in a tube with a brush on the end and you use it just like you would any other loose powder. They can be a bit pricey at $30 a tube but I haven’t found anything better for riding in the summer. http://www.sephora.com/instant-mineral-spf-30-P261607?skuId=1707694

I put on Olay Complete all over my face as a base moisturizer. Then I mix BB cream with Eucerin 30 SPF moisturizer and put that only from the eyes down. I always have either a hat or a helmet on, so why risk sunblock in my eyes?

Also, never ever try to get away with anything but sunblock made specifically for the face.

I can’t help with the makeup because I rarely wear any. I do use sunscreen religiously, and my favorites are from Neutrogena.

This is my winter one, which never irritates my skin even when it’s raw and wind-burned:

This is my summer one, which is the only sunscreen I’ve found that doesn’t sting or make me break out when I get sweaty:

For whatever other skin is exposed that day it’s spray-on sport sunscreen in the highest SPF I can find. ETA I hate wearing hats so I put sunscreen on my forehead.

If I’m showing or going to a clinic, I use Eucerin with SPF for moisturizer under Nyx tinted moisturizer, Sephora brand liquid liner, Anastasia dip brow pomade on my eyebrows, and Tarte mascara set with Urban Decay Long-Lasting Spray. It sounds like a lot, but takes me 5 minutes. I will say, I’m pretty vain!

If I’m just schooling, I just spray SPF 100 sunscreen everywhere; I’ve had good luck with the “sport” formulations of spray sunscreen.

My “normal” daily makeup lasts from when I put it on in the morning until I take it off at night no matter what I do (work out, go to work, school, ride, etc.), and I live in the land of heat and humidity.

If I have to be out in mid summer for real sun, I mix a baby sunscreen with my Garnier cheap a$$ BB cream and slather it.

I like the tinted moisturizers that have an spf 15. I usually get the Cover Girl BB cream. It evens out my skin tone and protects from sunburn. It doesn’t run at all. I used to use the expensive tinted moisturizers but had to grab the Cover Girl when I didn’t have time to go to the mall. It worked so well I haven’t gone back to the pricier version.

i use asian bb/cc creams on my face and spray ss on my body (hard to get the back with a cream).

No makeup, but I do use Neutrogena sunblock.

Ultra Sheer Dry Touch is pretty durable, does not sweat into my eyes. I tend to wear base ball hats so I don’t put it across my forehead, but even when I do, it does not sweat into my eyes.

I like the Sport formula, too, for the face. The rest of me gets the Ultra Sheer Dry Touch spray, with high SPF.

There’s a new formula out, CoolDry Sport, which I will probably try.

The Neutrogena SPF Lip Moisturizer balm is great, I have used it for decades. And now they also have Revitalizing lip balm with SPF, in nice colors.
