OK I am totally jealous now RR! I LOVE to read and would have been estatic to get something like that but alas the toilet it was. To top it off my dad called me yesterday to ask when my Bday was and I was like ummmm it was yesterday dad. He was just grateful he didn’t miss it by a month like he did one year 
and no he doesn’t have alzheimers he just forgets things like how old I am and my bday and such hope you have a great day!

Cut us dads a little slack. I am always getting confused about my kids b-days. I can usually get the girls but the boys of May 18 and July 21 get me. I often put 5/21 or 7/18. I mean it is close isn’t it. Last night I had to have roll call to finally get the right child’s name out. :no:
I do need a little help from you all on a Christmas gift for my wife. We are going to be living with my parents while our house is being relocated and remodeled so it needs to be small. I was thinking a diamond of some sort. Jewelry of some kind. I also thought that maybe a gift certificate for some new furniture for once we move into the new place would be a good move. But as I am learning that may be too practical. :eek: Life was easier when I was more clueless about gift giving. :lol:

LF you ARE learning diamonds are always good another great gift would be a gift certificate for a day of pampering at a day spa if there is one near you. massage facial.etc… most importantly it would be a day to relax sans kiddos And I am used to my dad forgetting my bday he is the king of the post it notes I’ll just have to remember to write a sticky note for him next year
I think the very most important thing to think about in giving a gift is that it be something that will make the give-ee happy. Diamonds are terrific if that is something that will make Ms. LF all weepy in a happy way.
I don’t like jewelry in the least, and Mr. RR knows that so he has never given me jewelry. HOWEVER, if he ever decided to get his act together an replace the gorgeous sapphire and diamond earrings that my mom gave me and were unfortunately lost, well, I would just break down and bawl. But if I have to TELL him that is what I want, well, it takes all the drama and fun out of them as a gift. :yes:
My dad used to give my mom crappy jewelery every year for Christmas - it made her crazy. One year she finally said to him, “LOOK, what I really want is ONE nice pair of fabulous diamond studs and ONE incredibly fabulous pearl necklace - let’s save up for a few years and get THAT for me.” The fact that she had to tell him that is kind of sad, but at least she finally got what she really wanted.
So, LF, what is it that Ms LF secretly in her heart desires, but would never tell you that she wants. Now THAT is the gift to give her. :winkgrin:

And LF, I agree with RR - no diamonds if that’s not what she wants. If I got a diamond, it would be like, “Oh. How nice. Do I have to wear it?”
But I was overjoyed to get peep embroidered saddle pads. Go figure.

How about a gift cert for that sewing store she frequents. or better yet, pop in that store and ask which items she drools over. Taa Daaa!!
The trick is to LISTEN and observe - does she perk up when the tv advertizes Bahama’s trips? Does she slow down and peer in the Bobble Store windows? What kinds of mags does she read? Does she fold a page over, or circle things or put a sticky tab on a page??
By now you should know what makes her heart go pitty pat!!

I couldn’t agree more! When my mom’s birthday came around, I remembered that she wanted two things: a Coach wristlet, and a spider (cooking utensil). When I went out shopping for her with my dad and sister, I bought her those things, and she was really happy!
