I read about that too. At least she was put out of her misery quickly.
I pretty much stopped watching racing on tv after the 1990 debacle when Go For Wand & Mr. Nickerson both died in the 1990 Breeders Cup (the NBC coverage of Go For Wand was heartless & gruesome!!)ā¦missed the Barbaro debacle. Thankfully the fillyās breakdown was not on film this time. I had her picked to win

The head mare doesnāt care for my boy too much!!:lol::lol:
I know this is going to be a good thing but I have mixed feelingsā¦
As I was kneeling next to him scritching his neck and rubbing his face as he ate his breakfast I started to tear up thinking that this was the last time that I would deliver him his breakfast⦠seeing his ears perked⦠hear his āoh goody foodā nicker aimed at me. This will be the last time I see him before I go to bed⦠some mornings leaning on him while he ate and I dozed slightly inhaling that horse smell with my head on his huge shoulder as the sound of happy horse munching sometimes send me drifting to sleep a bit leaning against him. His new home is an hour away from me and a 35 min one way trip from my work so too far when you work 12 hr shifts to do an early morning drive by to see him.
We have bonded so much in these 2 months hanging out getting scratches and grazing together. I have owned him for 2 yrs but due to the psycho trainer and the Nazi like way she ran her barn I never got to make any real choices and decisions about my horses care, nor did I get a real chance to bond with my own horse very well. I thought we were bonded but where we were to were we are now is nowhere in the same league. My horse came to my friends farm scared of everything⦠even the bucket with his food on the ground to tolerating the chickens flapping beside him⦠goats running under him⦠and when he gets nervous giving me the look before he freaks out that says āIs it ok mom??ā and when I tell him it is fine he visably relaxes and accepts that if I say it is ok⦠it is and he is safe with me. That is the best feeling everā¦to have an animal trust you like that. My eyes have been opened and I hope the bond we have developed will improve our already great relationship under saddle. I wish he could stay at my friends house or be closer to me but unfortunately there arenāt any decent boarding barns in my area, and while my friends place is nice for a vacation there really isnāt a place for me to ride or a way for me to reasonably trailer him a couple of times a week for lessons or training.
I know this barn takes great care of the horses⦠my new trainer is great and we are very much on the same page when it comes to my horseās care.
We have worked out how to keep him safe in his new home and she is going to have copies of all of his proof of ownership papers just in case.
The bright side is that I am looking forward to riding him again and seeing how this new trainer handles him. I know he will make new friends, he has an appt with new farrier to get his tootsies back in order since old farrier (that we had no choice to use) had evidently been causing a lot of his soreness issues. I am also planning to have the massage therapist and Chiro come by and see him before he goes back to work and maybe even a vet that does acupuncture just so he can get the full spa treatment before he goes back to work.
The job I have now gives me more free days during the week than I had before so I can drive up to see him more often that I was able to before but it wonāt be the same as doing the most mundane chores with him. For those of you that have your horses at home I really envy you:yes:.
Sorry so long I just wanted to post a quick update and share my feelings with those that would understand.
Yes. I understand. On the up side - when you have to go out of town, no worries. If you get sick and canāt make it there, no worries. If the weather precludes, well, you worry, but you worry about all the horses and people.
You can still bond, truly. I spend a lot of hang time with Mr. Ted.
Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Itās my real horsieās 8th birthday today.
Here he is last Xmas doing his favorite thing. Thatās eldest DD on top and youngest DD in the background.

And happy moving day to AL and her horsie on the lam!
great pic! And happy birthday - Ted is also a committed grazer.
Came back yesterday afternoon from out of town (family thing). I get to the barn at 7 PM. I am too tired to do much but groom and pick up bits and pieces to take home to clean. All is quiet. Heās in the cross ties. Starts tugging on the tie. This can be translated into either āI need to peeā or āI left some grain in my bucket, and itās calling meā or āI need a drink and then Iāll check my grain bucket.ā (Itās like Chinese - the written word can mean so many things, and itās all in the accent.)
So I take him to his stall, and he stands there. Pushes at me with his nose, as if to say āYou KNOW what I want!!!ā
Yes, I do. He wants to go graze in his favorites spots. He is very insistent. I remind him that he could have been SOL because I could have been RIDING him, which would put off any grazing until later.
I am such a wuss. I gave the all clear.Made him so happy.
Yesterday evening - Ted grazes while DGRH works on Specific Aim One:

Thank you PP.
Beautiful tribute!!!
AL and DGRH thank you for the heart warming stories that remind us how wonderful horses are just being horses - allowing us the pleasure of their presence and talking to us in thier own ways.
Thanks.
MLC, your horse and your daughters look like real keepers and HL and DG thank your for your thoughts on your horses, I loved reading them; itās nice to know the intangibles are strong at work and keeping the world positive, and PP your tribute to Eight Belles is beautiful
Well witness relocation horse is in his new home⦠but he really REALLY didnāt want to leave his farm home or his women. I mean this horse has been trailered a lot. I mean a small 7yo student at horse shows can load him in a trailer. Heck when I moved him the first time he loaded in the middle of a main road no problem. Not today. He saw that trailer and was like NOOOOOO I donāt WANNA go!!! It took us about 20 min or so to get him to load. He was fine once he got on but he wasnāt going out without a fight.
Narriation:
Me: Come on horsey⦠youāll like it at the new place⦠You get a nice big stall⦠front and back doors⦠and a fanā¦
Horsie: NOOO! NOOO! Youāre not fooling me⦠stall = work I am on VACATION!!! My women need me to protect them from the scary shadows in the run in⦠or the leaves that fly around and eat ponies⦠and what about that cow⦠he looks shifty if you ask me. They NEED me hereā¦

Once we unloaded him in his new home into his stall he seemed ok. Started eating his hay and putting his head out the dutch doors. The stalls are big and bright and he seemed to settle in well. He will meet his turnout buddy tomorrow. So far so good. Farrier comes out Thursday to put shoes on him. Heāll get accupuncture on Thurs as well and the massage therapist will come next week so he can get the full spa treatment before it is back to work.
I think once he realizes he has minions again all will be forgiven. Maybe I can hang pics of his mares in his stall for himā¦:lol::lol:.
