Surprise foal help
So, if you had a vet come out to administer those shots then why wouldn’t you have that person come back to check on your foal instead of trying to get a diagnosis and treatment suggestions via a public forum?
Asked & answered… advice from an online forum is free & convenient

There’s nothing wrong with having a mare foal out on pasture or having a more hands-off attitude towards foaling. But it is worrisome when the OP admits she knows (essentially) nothing about foals, and refuses to consult a professional. Hope the foal thrives in spite of that.

More like 2 years. Sometimes longer. It takes about that long to develop immunity to ascarids to the point you don’t need to really worry about them, and at least that long to develop some real immunity strongyles.

Start a FEC program on him at 8 months or so, and do one every Spring and late Summer/early Fall

Advice from people here is more up to ate than that of he only vet I am capable of getting to short of an emergency. See, I actually need my job to pay my bills. Vets here don’t do weekends this time of year. I don’t know too many people who can up and leave work without having to use vacation, and I have none due to an illness my daughter had that landed us in he hospital for a week. Last I knew, FMLA didn’t cover vet visits either. The decent vet doesn’t give advice to customers he hasn’t seen. I’m not sure how this is difficult to understand. If hose of you who want to act so judgmental would like to take off work to haul this foal to the vet, I will gladly pay for it. But unless someone can invent a way to teleport, or it becomes an emergency, my boss isn’t going to hand out extra vacation for a check up for a healthy horse.

Who is acting so judgmental?

Just so someone on here is justifiably judgmental, I will say that I an appalled at the lack of care you’re giving this mare and foal (lack of placenta check and lack of IgG test).
