Swamp a$$ solutions?

Sorry for the off-color title,:eek: but it’s starting to get stupid humid here in the South - and I’m so tired of driving 40 minutes home in wet nasty clothes after a ride. And even peeling them off after a ride and putting on different clothes is kinda miserable.

Am I wearing the wrong clothes? I school in TS breeches and Kastel-like sun shirts…

Anyone have any innovative solutions either for keeping the sweaty crotch/back/boobs at bay or making the ride home more comfortable? Thanks in advance!

Oh girl I totally feel ya on this one! I am a Southern transplant and let me tell you I remember feeling like I was swimming in sweat my first time showing! Plus riding after work during the hottest part of the day feels like I’m riding on the surface of the sun.

Kerrits breeches will change your life. The ice fill tights and their regular breeches are like riding naked. I have both and LOVE them! They’re not as “fashionable” as TS or cavaleria toscana but so worth it. For tops, I found TS sun shirts to be the coolest and last the longest. They are a thinner fabric than kastel. Kerrits also makes sun shirts but they’re a little out there pattern wise for me!

Other things I recommend- when you get off don’t sit down!! I liked to sit and chat or watch others while my horse cooled off. Stay standing and untuck your shirt to catch a breeze while you groom/ bathe/ clean tack/ etc. Take off your helmet and boots or chaps right away.

Blast the AC in your car not directly at you. Try to point it in all directions so the whole car cools off. I can’t stand the cold air directly on my arms and face for very long so I end up turning it down even though I’m still sweaty below the waist.

Once you get home shower ASAP and then be naked at least on your bottom half for a while. It helps prevent the bumps.

I haven’t discovered a good bra solution but I’m pretty flat so maybe others can help.

When it starts to get hot, I keep a packet of facial cleansing towelettes in my car and/or tack locker, or if the barn has a fridge that’s even better. Even just being able to wipe your sweaty face, neck and chest area with a cool towelette made a world of difference to me.

I like the Knix brand because they have a seamless version that minimizes underwear lines.

Another vote for Knix wear. I barn mate who has tried both Knix and Thinx. The Thinx are thicker and she prefers the Knix. Myself and another rider also use the Knix wear panties.

I’m in the Midwest where our summer norm is 90+ degrees coupled with 80%+ humidity…pure misery. I’ll second the Kerrits tights, I save those for the hottest of days because they are a little casual for my liking (no belt loops or anything) but I also love the Ovation Aqua X breeches for summer riding. They dry super fast, way faster than TS.

What I would love is to find a sports bra that dries quickly! My shirt will be totally dry, but I’ll have big wet boob marks underneath from my bra!

The swamp a$$ has been legit this year! One of my ways of combating this has been to use some deodorants wherever I need it. WHEREVER. Specifically my crotch/seat area. I use Lume, which is a natural deodorant that is also designed to be used in various body areas. It seems to be doing well. My friends and family are under strict directions to let me know if I start to smell worse than I would if I used the “aluminum deodorant” and so far I continue to be reassured that I do not stink beyond what is considered normal after a long day in the barn on working in the yard. So I do have it on authority that the Lume works… for me at least LOL.

I’ve been thinking about trying Lume! Does it help with friction too? I’ve used a natural deodorant that failed me stench-wise before, but currently using one from Little Seed farm that does not much for wetness but keeps me smelling good at least. Have NOT tried applying it anywhere else tho :lol:

I’m new to riding and am attending a week-long camp next week. I have a pair of kerrits icefil tights and an ariat sunshirt…I am thinking whether I just wash and wear every day or go buy a second set. I am also googling knix and anti-monkey butt! I live in SK which typically is a dry heat but we’ve had some pretty darned muggy days too.

For natural deodorant I use a product called Under Carriage which is intended to go in ALL the sweaty spots. I spend a fair amount of time being active outside and don’t find the stench factor bad at all. I do have to reapply a couple times a day, though, if I’ve gone out for a run or if it’s REALLY hot. For the camp next week I already have a tub of it in my pack.

I am not sure what the base of Anti Monkey Butt powder is, but be careful if it is talc and you are using it in your delicate areas. There are links between talc and ovarian cancer (https://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancer…nd-cancer.html). I’ve lost two friends to ovarian cancer at relatively young ages–not worth the risk to me.

I recently started wearing Buck Naked underwear by Duluth Trading (https://www.duluthtrading.com/womens…ear-73514.html) and it was a game changer for me. These babies with Kerrits Crossover breeches are the bees knees in heat and humidity. I wear them while fox hunting in July and August and it helps so much. We often spend 2+ hours in the saddle on a hunt and I can’t believe I ever did it in cotton underwear.

Gold Bond for under the bra! I mean nothing is going to stop the sweat from happening or otherwise we’d overheat and die, but using Gold Bond (the original orange bottle) makes me feel a bit cleaner and staves off rashes under there.

I like Sunshirts but I don’t care what anyone says, wearing long sleeves is HOTTER than wearing short sleeves. I do not wear long sleeves when it’s above 82-84F. I have short-sleeved sunshirts and v-neck t-shirts from Target that were like $8 each and I love them tucked into my Tailoreds with a belt or just with Kerrits Ice-fil tights.

Don’t hate me, but I’m a Washingtonian (okay, you probably don’t hate me in the winter), so I can’t relate to these problems, BUT I have a sports bra recommendation!

I am obsessed with the lululemon sports bras with the zipper front. I have lived/ridden in LA/ SoCal for years and these are quick drying and you seriously feel naked wearing one. I’m a solid C cup and it provides stability and seamless-ness. You can get them on sale all the time online, you just have to know your size as sale is non-returnable.
