The Tad Coffin saddles seem to fit like a glove or not at all…
I personally can’t ride in them at all… They just DO NOT fit me :no:
What CWD did you get? My mare has pretty large withers but is wide in the shoulders so I am on the hunt for a saddle that will fit her. Going to get the rep out if I can’t find one used that will work for her…
Glad you were able to find a saddle that fits you both… that’s my challenge right now!!!
You just got to remember that a saddle won’t fit every horse and rider, no matter what it claims.
Just depends on the individual.

Just because the saddle fit one horse and does not fit another, does not mean it’s a terrible saddle. It just means that it was too small for your second horse. If it pinched no amount amount of padding was going to solve that problem. You were right in getting another saddle to fit your second horse.

I got just the standard “TC” which is the flat seat. the nice thing about the CWD is you can get the saddle flocked to fit your specific horse and you. I have just the normal flock which seems to fit her great! I found that I like the ride of the saddle, I found it very comfortable as long as i was showing in the hunters, but for the jumpers(it may just be the way my horse jumps so round) I like the deeper seat of the CWD.
Agree wholeheartedly. No reason for a thumbs down on the TC just because it doesn’t fit your mare. NO saddle, I don’t care what someone says, not even treeless, can possibly fit ALL horses. It’s just not possible.
I think perhaps TC has finally realized this, which is why there are 3 widths available not, not just the one-size-fits-all-wide tree. But even then, LOTS of horses are wider than the TC original/wide tree.

Yeah, but the difference is that the OTHER saddle makers didn’t go around saying their saddle fit every horse. The Tad Coffin PRODUCT is a good product but IMHO the sales pitch was ridiculous, borderline irresponsible.

Totally agree about the sales pitch.
That said I love my Tad. It fits both my current horses wonderfully (as per my saddle fitter who is unaffiliated with any brand…as well as myself). It also fits me like a glove. I’ll be sad when/if I get another horse it doesn’t fit or my current guys change shape drastically.
Well thank goodness you were able to jump on the new bandwagon and get the CWD!

Sure they do. Most treeless makers say this. CWD even says it - they say their flexible tree points will adjust to fit any horse.
No saddle will fit every horse including the now fashionable CWD.

I didn’t say I agreed with it In fact, I vehemently disagree with it. I’m just saying - TC is not, by far, the only one who makes that claim, and it’s not just any lower end saddlery that says it either.
Oh, I know JB you weren’t agreeing. I am sick and tired of saddle companies thinking they are the only answer out there. I just ordered my 4th saddle for my horse so I am one who has been through the wringer with saddles and have heard it all!
Agree with the others that say just because the Tad doesn’t fit your mare doesn’t make it a crap saddle. It is a very well made saddle in and of itself.
I personally love mine and it fits my horse so all is good, I liked my Butet too but unfortunately my horse did not. This does not make the Butet’s pieces of crap.
Saddles are a very personal thing both for horse and rider, no one thing fits everyone I don’t care what they say.
Bates and Wintec has the adjustable gullet system to try to fit every horse but the panels don’t work for everyone. All you can do is try, try and try until you find the one what works best for both. You can break the bank and go fully custom but then sell or something could happen to the horse you fit it to and then you have problems again.

No, I’m not here to call you all fools. If I were I’d be somewhere on the list. I have bought (and sold) at least one too expensive saddle because I was at my wit’s end with fitting my horse and was ready to listen to anyone who told me SOMETHING would fit him.
I basically lost $1,000 on that saddle, but learned the hard way that I have to educate myself about fitting saddles. Never again. My point is that I’d like to think that I’m a bit less of a fool now and will have to part with less money on ill-fitting saddles in the future.
I wish the same for everyone, especially those plopping down $4,500 or so per try! Yikes!

It is VERY sad to listen to saddle makers who think their saddle is THE saddle to solve every horse and rider’s problem.
I am on saddle #…counting… 5 for my WB gelding (not counting the current dressage saddle), and this one took trying/riding in 12 different saddles to find :rolleyes: Including CWD (just couldn’t buy the spiel about those flexible trees fitting any horse), and the very nicely fitting but so $$$ County.
Man, I could NOT agree with you more! If people would educate themselves on what proper fitting is like, they wouldn’t end up selling that $4500 saddle for $3k 6 months and a few chiropractor visits later :no:
FWIW, when Justin fitted me for my Tad in Feb. 2008, the insinuation in the sales discussion was never that the saddle would fit any horse, but rather about the perspective of fitting the saddle to the horse in motion instead of standing still.
I sold my Tad due to finding a better fit for me and the horse it was for in another saddle that happens to be less expensive in a tree custom made exactly for him–but it didn’t have anything to do with the saddle, which was good on him with a mattes pad and he was happy.
So, I’m not sure how ubiqutious that pitch is, but I didn’t recieve it when I bought my saddle.That said, if one company starts pitching the “fits every horse” bit, the others in that price bracket really have to start making it too in order to continue to seem like a good “value” in that range…that’s just basic competitive business.
I guess it’s a case of caveat emptor? I’m happy I got my BC(full custom tree for my ex-Lyme gelding with fluctuating degrees of back sensitivity) and sold my Tad, but I was willing to do the due diligence and find a perfect fit…some are not as willing.
