Talk to me about your favourite saddles with these features

Flat panels (not curvy or banana)
Deep comfy seat for those who like that “locked in” feeling
Large seat for a large rider (18.5 or 19inch)
Narrow twist
Standard or short flaps for the short legged rider

Are you looking at new or used? You can get all of that in a Black Country Vinici, but short flaps would be a custom order. I had one made with short rolls, and they aren’t huge rolls, so to me it’s not a locked in feeling, but they’ve been there to save me when my mare who’s reactive from being on several months of stall rest has planted and caught air.

Monoflap is a good way to go to get a narrower twist feeling if you’re fitting a wider horse.

For a more “locked in” feeling, something with an external block like a Custom or N2 might suit.

You might want to look at the Smith Worthington Matrix. It does not have short flaps, but meets the rest of your criteria, including going up to a 19.5” seat. It’s also very reasonable priced at $2600 and the tree is adjustable by Smith Worthington.

I don’t know from personal experience but I’ve been researching with several similar features including a deep seat and narrow twist. Prestige really caught my eye. I dont have the budget for new but you can order XS flaps and their seats are super deep. Most of the lines seem to cap at 18" but at least one goes to 18.5" so it might be worth a call to get a sense of which lines could meet your needs.

Funnily enough my current saddle is a Prestige D1 and I love everything about it except the flat open seat.

LOVE Trilogy! Hard to find used in Canada sadly.

True!

I did buy mine used from the States, so they are out there and can be found for a (relative) deal. I was saving up for a new custom-made Regal to replace my old broken custom-made Regal (because I was told I would only ever be able to have a custom-made saddle to fit my extraordinarily short legs to any dressage saddle :sigh: and I LOVED my Regal) when I came across the ad for the Trilogy Amadeo short flap I ended up buying, for exactly the amount I had accrued (exchange, shipping and duty included). It fits me like an absolute dream right down to the bottom of the flaps! :encouragement:

Bonus of the Trilogy is it fits both the horses in the barn like it was custom-fitted to each of them straight out of the box it came in [ and ALL previous saddles would fit one horse, but not t’other, including the Prestige D1  belonging to the other horse (which incidentally doesn’t fit me either) or my old broken Regal ]. I found the Trilogy on High End Used english saddles on FB, I think, then researched it on the Trilogy website  and decided to “go for it” even though it meant buying from out of country.
Guess I’m lucky it’s not the seat size you’re looking for

Lol you are lucky!! I would buy a used one online tomorrow if I knew it would fit my horse. Am keeping my eyes open and hoping to find one locally to try on her. In the meantime am trialing a lovely Butet next week. Totally different feel from the Trilogy but I’m equally fond of them

It WAS a gamble, but the point of my post was they are so well built that one likely WOULD fit your horse! Looking at your wishlist, if you do/can find one, I would recommend the Verago- checks all your boxes especially if you find one marked SF - short flap
My horse has a flat back- the Trilogy fits her, the other horse in the barn has a dippy back- it fits her too- honest! I’ve never seen anything as amazing as this saddle in the way of fitting 2 totally different shapes. I bought a wide tree
Good luck with the Butet though- saddle buying deserves its own Dante

Looking at the comments I would also recommend the Verago- check all its boxes, especially if you find one marked SF

I am very much regretting selling the one I had 5 years ago! Sadly it really didn’t fit the horse I had then and I needed to sell it to buy a new one for him…which was a nightmare process

Have you tried the Butet? How did it go?
Update, please!

Check out Custom Saddlery. They stamp the flap length under the seat size. 16 is standard, but you see plenty of 15s floating around and the occasional 14.

I love love love everything about it, except riding my horse in it :frowning:

Funnily enough I tried the same model on my old horse a few years ago and it was perfection. However on my current horse the balance was entirely wrong for me - I felt like it didn’t give a place to sit and I had to fight for my position. So sad :frowning:

I also tried my coach’s Antares which was 100% better for me than the Butet and about 50% better than my current saddle. I felt really secure and easily balanced, my leg just hung in the right position. So it’s a contender for sure - would just need to try one in the correct seat size for me as hers is a 17.5.

I also tried a Kentaur and hated everything about that particular model. Hated the balance of it, hated how wide the twist was, hated how bulky the saddle felt and hated that my horse couldn’t seem to feel my set aids at all.

Tomorrow am trying a different Antares and a Devoucoux, and on the weekend a Paramount and possibly an Albion.

So it sounds like you’re in the 2nd or 3rd circle…

Hoping something works out for you very soon!
I think I’m going to go hug my Amadeo;)

I did find a Verago but it’s a smaller seat size than I’d like and the owner lives close to two hours away, so I don’t want to waste her time trying it until I hit at least the 5th circle lol

Actually, I ended up buying a smaller seat size for my Amadeo than I had expected to need- I went down 1/2" in size and it fit ME perfectly as well as the 2 horses! Just to throw another complication into your search…

How about a KN Symphony?

Don’t know much about those - will do some research!

in today’s update from the second circle, the Antares in a half inch bigger seat was better. Definitely the leading contender. Devoucoux (no idea which model I tried) didn’t fit at all - girth would have been sitting about halfway down her ribcage. Paramount arriving soon on trial and off to the consignment rack tomorrow to see if anything looks intriguing.
