Can you imagine being thrown into ICE detention, maybe even Guantanamo, with your horses sitting in the trailer at the border? So far I donât think any American citizen returning home has been imprisoned by ICE but naturalized citizens may have been, and green card or permanent residents have certainly had their documents stripped from them at the border. Graduate students on valid student visa have had those visas revoked without being informed and then arrested and imprisoned. Or arrested and imprisoned and then had visa revoked. There is some discussion about revoking the citizenship of people born in the USA to non citizens.
So I would suggest being very careful about bringing anyone into Canada who could be arrested when re-entering the USA. This includes anyone who is not a full American citizen. Green card, permanent resident, married and doing paperwork, foreign worker on any kind of legitimate visa, foreign student. They have imprisoned white British and European travelers, itâs not just targeting brown people. Though brown people who are full American citizens have been caught up in sweeps.
Many Canadians and Europeans are avoiding crossing the American border right now, but itâs also risky for any non American citizen who is in the US legally to leave and return.
