Teams for the Paris Olympics

Hot Bobo has been very hit and miss this season and with a three person team, I’d be disappointed if she were selected over combos that produce more consistent results. JP was one of the few who took the long route at that tricky corner in Kentucky and came out clear with time penalties. Colleen got a 20 there and though it was arguably too tough a question, there is something to be said for making smart decisions on long routes.

I know we all criticize JP’s “strategic management” style in the lead up to championships sometimes - myself included! - but I feel like we need a rider who gets the job done so that we can rack up a decent result. Neither Bobo nor FE Goldeneye have been consistent and though both can earn better scores than Freedom, El Mundo and Bacyrouge on a good day, neither horse will medal. And so I’d be more comfortable with a cautious approach oriented to consistency.

We do have four horses with consistent xc records: El Mundo, Bacyrouge, Freedom, Flourescent Adolescent. Watson had a RF at Bromont but has been otherwise completely solid. Bobo and FE Goldeneye have had very spotty records this season.

I too loved that they gave the breeding and the breeder! but wondered why they left out the dam’s name?

Here are all the FEI posted stats, on all the riders who are qualified for the team (:crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:I haven’t made any errors) - Bromont and Bramham were not posted, therefore, I added them to each competitors list. I only put in Freedom GS and Watson GS as those are the only ones being discussed on this board.
The selectors have a very tough decision to make, but, especially with new HPAG, I believe they have Canada’s best interests. They are knowledgeable, experienced and are focusing in on who will be the best group to represent Canada.
I agree, no one has had a stellar year!!

Definitely, but the rest of their phases aren’t up to par for some of them imo (talking Olympics here, they are all actually incredible ). Not super great dressage, and too much time xc.

They could have a chance to medal if everything went right, and I think that’s what’s exciting. Our strength really lies in our showjumping, we definitely have that going for us.

Exciting times!

Thanks for doing this!

@brindille Just wanted everyone to see who is all in the game!
As to @Jealoushe regarding XC time, I believe there are reasons for time issues - securing qualifying scores or weather conditions or ? I do agree our SJ is good and our dressage is where the selectors want it to be.
But who am I, just a lover of this sport.

Is Flourescent Adolescent not providing decent scores? I feel like she has done somewhat decent over the past year.

I didn’t include Florescent Adolescent’s FEI stats, as there hadn’t been any discussion of her on this board.
Here are the FEI stats: Horse Performance (fei.org)
Bromont: 6th; D - 37.6; XC J - 0; XC T - 13.6; SJ T - 0 SJ - 4; Final Score - 55.2

In case any one is wondering her other horse at Bromont was TUGCE, she hasn’t got the qualifications as of yet - no CCI4*-L and only got 1 MER CCI4*-S at Bromont. Horse Performance (fei.org)

does anyone know where we in the US will be able to watch? IS it going to ber streamed? Will I have to subscribe to Peacock? I have checked the NBC website and cannot find anything about Equestrian.
Thanks

Here is a link to the equestrian schedule page.

It appears to be a mix. It looks like USA network or digital only.

Seems like we have to subscribe to peacock tv to be sure to see it.
Anyone already a subscriber?

Not a current Peacock subscriber, but we pay an ungodly amount monthly for Comcast Xfinity broadband and television. At one point, I think Peacock was included in our “bundle”, but I don’t think it is anymore. Time to call again and see what I can do to get the bundle “rate” down - as well as audit all our subscriptions to various entertainment platforms… but I digress.

I followed the link posted above and got taken to a Peacock page which is offering an initial year of Peacock for $19.99. Not sure if the link will work, but here it: https://www.peacocktv.com/sports/olympics?cid=2401olyparisnbspownedi8424&utm_campaign=2401olyparis&utm_source=oly_nbcoly_drpl&utm_medium=own_edi_awa_glbnvlnk&utm_term=nbcolympicssitevisitors&utm_content=parisolympics

I also pay an ungodly amount to comcast…but peacock is no longer included…i am thinking of getting the peacock without ads for July/August so I can watch equestrian…then cancel

Thanks for that. If I am reading it correctly we can sign up for a year? For 19.95? I have no particular interest in Peacock, but I would happily pay that for a year. Even if I cancel it after the Olympics. If I could watch all the equestrian Olympics I would be happy as a clam.

According to the link it’s only available in US.

Sorry Canadians!

Here’s a link to the Equestrian Olympic schedule of events (subject to change!):
https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/schedule/equestrian

There’s a handy toggle that shows the time in your device’s time zone instead of Paris time. My time zone (PDT) is nine hours behind so most live things will happen in the middle of the night. Ugh.

If you are streaming TV, then you can get peacock month to month.

The BBC will be providing full coverage. It looks like you have to have the discovery+ app.

Help support the Canadian Team by buying this collection from sponsor Le Meiux. https://www.facebook.com/GreenhawkEquestrian
