Teams for the Paris Olympics

i think they said this “would be” CL’s 3rd Olympics and that Lindsay hopes it will be her first Olympics

but it could also have said “will be” for CL.

my 30 year old high school French is good enough to understand our anglophone political leaders who answer questions/ debate in French using simple words and speaking slowly, but nowhere near good enough to understand a lot of what native French speakers are saying.

So is the “unofficial” Team Canada Colleen, Lindsay, and Karl?

if so, I wonder why El Mundo is out.

and, if JP was not named, I am sure she would have appealed, so …still lots of questions.

I think we are speculating too much. The reason the 3 competed this weekend - for that coveted 3rd spot & the alternate 4th spot? Curious minds want to know, hmmmmm …?:thinking::thinking:
I guess we will know Tuesday!!

I speak French and the report makes it very clear that she has not yet been selected and is waiting to find out whether she will be this week.

That was my understanding as well, that the verb tense was 'would be" - if they were selected.

I think one of them may be a reserve, I can’t imagine Mike not being on the team. If he’s not, he should appeal of all the riders!

Mike’s horse was 33rd at Bramham 4* so maybe all is not not well in the world?

New Zealand team has been named - both Prices, each with a direct reserve horse, and Clarke Johnstone. Caroline Powell is the alternate, and Monica Spencer and Artist are 2nd alternate and heading from US to Europe for training camp.

Recent 5* success is certainly not the most important variable in team selections this year.

I love Mike, but his horse isn’t a dressage star and has also not been consistent on XC at past championships. It’s hard to know what criteria they are using - given that the competition in the UK is so much tougher - and how far back they are looking…

At least mike puts himself against the best in the world. And delivers consistent results. Honestly the lack of Canadian team naming is getting ridiculous. All the players are out there training, building camaraderie and where’s Canada? Dealing with people pouting about not getting named and appealing no doubt. Come on Canada. History keeps repeating itself.

His average dressage is 33 which is not bad at all, also his SJ is average one or none rails thereabouts. He’s done well on that horse to be picked imo

Australia. several local news sites report that Andrew Hoy is not selected for the Paris Olympic team.
Formal announcement on July 4.
I am curious about Shane Rose

It just feels like we are so crazy late with these announcements this year. Is it because we are off cycle thanks to covid and had less time to prep? Or what?

It doesn’t look like Canada is the only one, though.

my guess is just that there is fierce competition and also fear of lawsuits.

It’s so weird because the US is the most litigious jurisdiction there is and yet everyone accepts the selectors’ choice, refrains from complaining on social media and moves on…

I wonder if that’s a sign that the program we have in place is actually working. All of these riders on high performance lists probably have a better grasp on their likelihood than some of the jurisdictions that may be more fragmented. :woman_shrugging:

I mean the laypeople on this thread were pretty much able to accurately predict the team with very few surprises.

it’s not always made public what goes on behind the scenes.

Considering in court previous appeals were won, maybe Equestrian Canadas previous selectors did make errors or chose on bias. Hard to know without all the facts. I do believe some of the previous court cases are available online on CanLi.

I can’t really fault riders who do wage appeals, it is the freaking Olympics and a lot of their livelihood rides on being chosen. If they have a more experienced horse or a better history…they have an argument.

All that said but we don’t even know if there was an appeal. I heard they were waiting until the entries closing date to ensure everyone was still good to go.

I understand appeals, but its also unfair to leave it this late. For fundraising reasons as well.

I just wish it was an earlier selection and announcement to avoid this last minute BS so close to when they need to leave.
