Teams for the Paris Olympics

Carolyn?

Presuming Caroline (Pamukcu).

Ahh yes. I was racking my brain trying to think of a Carolyn, not making the connection to Caroline

Sorry. I don’t know if it autocorrected or I brain-farted. Both are equally possible. :joy:

I do that too. Different spellings – to me = different names. Helps if you have seen their name spelled out, I guess!

We’re at seven 5* events now:

  1. Adelaide
  2. Kentucky
  3. Badminton
  4. Luhmuhlen
  5. Burghley
  6. Maryland
  7. Pau

I think he has done them all. I know he has done Pau, but I don’t think he finished… that was Crackerjack…anyway, maybe Pau, and he hasn’t finished Badminton… yet.

He was 8th with Bruno at Pau last year (2023)

Watching Badminton, the commentators make it sound like the competition in some European nations and the UK, to be named to the Paris team, is so fierce that they have to prove themselves at 5* events to be considered for the Olympics.

I think the US and Canadian riders who hope to be selected for Paris, chose to enter the 4* Long at Kentucky or Tryon, rather than the 5* at Kentucky.

Hats off to Caroline. I’m blown away by what she & Blake have accomplished over the past 12-months.

Only one to make the time in 4*-L at Tryon & leading the class on a 28.6 dressage heading into show jumping today. If she was every seriously being considered for one of the 3 starting spots for Paris, I don’t see how they fault her at this point. The results are consistently there and I think he might be perfectly suited to what the Olympic course is going to look like.

9 is quite young, but the horse has answered every question with flying colors. Tough year to be a selector!

this is somewhat puzzling as there are 4*s all over Europe. but I guess nothing shines like a good showing at Badminton.

Saving the horse for Paris. Giving the horse a psychological boost.

Proving oneself at 5* has to happen long before the final months.

Hopefully every rider who is a candidate for Olympic selection made the best choice for their horse to be ready for Paris. Not just to show off and get attention. That part happens long before. The Olympics is not a place for the just-arrived-at-the-level. As has been shown in the past.

And they go clear in SJ to win it!

I saw on Instagram that Tami had a bad fall yesterday with Kynan and had to withdraw her other ones. I hope she recovers quickly and is still in contention!

event entries records it as MR

And they’ve had more consistent success in those 6 years than we had in the previous 20. If some iteration of at least 2 of those 5 riders goes out for team USA, they’ve always finished on the podium at the big events.

Thanks for pointing this out- particularly how hard these people have worked to get where they are, and honestly, how gracious they are about it. What a lifelong goal to work towards.

Thanks, I changed my post to reflect the fall was with Kynan

Has the UK solved any of the issues they’ve had with transporting horses off the island?

I’ve read that some UK breeders and competition riders have moved their bases to the continent because of the length of time the horses have to spend in the trailer and the apparent mountain of paperwork required. Hopefully they’ve made some progress.

The situation with travelling horses has improved slightly as people become familiar with the mound of paperwork but the cost is huge and people are moving their horses to Europe. Silly, silly Government
