Yes, I agree it is important for everyone to speak on this matter. Specially when those in the wrong so enjoy what they have that they resist change, even when they know changing is morally the right thing to do. It is hard for them to accept that their life’s efforts on this breed has been so reprehensibly wrong. But it is time they heard. And it will take more than one voice - and more than one effort cause they have deep pockets, a HPA that says what they do is legal and politicians.
Yes, they take up arms and band together and plot and such in dark private gatherings cause if changing the law is successful - well they are finished - caput.
Yes, they twist the arguments, play the personal attack and worse. Though some do not believe it, YES the threats and real personal violence really did happen to those who opposed what they did.
Yes, turning away from the harassment and threat of violence is the easier thing to do.
But right is not always easy.
This group that you and I oppose is most definitely one of the most shunned groups of horsemen in the world. Right up there with the folks that beat horses to make them dance or enjoy tripping them for sport. Problem is “the world” does not live next to this as you do. The world can still look the other way. And the beatings and trippings go on in grand public events. Until people like you are willing to call others to right the wrong.
I am sure there were those in the room who who think they have some big pants and history will regard them well. But history already knows you are the man and the family whose daughter and horse made that ride. You and your honest attendance at these events continues to mean a lot. You stood up when others did not. And keeping this in the spotlight will spare countless other simple folks from being drawn into the distorted belief that this does not harm the horse, that these are soft pads and a harmless bracelet or a natural way for the horse to move.
Don’t let a few epithelial cells get in your way.
You being you is a good thing.
