The Baran

Also I was not expecting to see Rodrigo’s horse make the cut. He was all pretzeled up for the first round.

It’s just the flat in fairness, more people will watch tomorrow.

Loling at these well behaved horses trying to politely say they can’t see sh*t with the ribbons in their eyes

And Harrie Smolders taking the win. Good on him, lovely horse!

Ribbons put on the wrong side. lol.

It was an interesting class. Harry’s horse was gorgeous, but really they all were.

For some reason they put them all on the wrong side… finally fixed it once they got to Harrie’s 2nd set of photos, much easier to see that way  Good, patient noodles

Did anyone see what happened with Babylon?

Here are the highlights

I did not see what happened with him on the live stream, and the two commentators also said they did not see what happened.

Thank you! I had an awful time trying to find any of it to watch today.

For something that’s supposed to be a big deal, they’re making it awfully hard to watch!

Did they really say this is Harrie Smolders first “flat class”, lol. He has national championships in dressage as a junior but ok.

Were they group classes?

In this case, “flat class” is a specific reference to the type of class today. No comparison to a dressage test, besides no jumping.

They said it like it was a new unfathomable skill, I think he can manage a stretchy trot and a slow canter in a group setting. It would have been much more interesting for them to really explain the judging and how its scored instead of just saying the horses must look relaxed over and over again. If the purpose is that the horse goes in a loose rein and does not change rhythm or speed or respond to the others in the group while also being type-y and well mannered? just say that. People can understand that.

Flat classes in Europe are usually a lot more involved and the horses are VERY nice movers, often in doubles and schooled to a tee demonstrating changes and lengthening and shortening of gaits as well as some other tests sometimes. Sometimes judged on conformation stripped etc. So people were puzzled what this was supposed to be judged on.

Am I the only one disappointed in the chosen clips for the “highlight” reel? Despite being heavily involved in this thread, I managed to skip looking at it at precisely the wrong time today and missed the whole dang thing. Go to watch the highlights, sit through a much too long intro, get like 30 seconds of the actual class then suddenly it’s reins on the buckle and riders chatting three abreast as they stroll around the ring? Huh? Those are the highlights? Or did I land on the wrong video? Looked like the last 4 minutes were ribbons? I skipped out at that point.
