I bet more will come out but that’s all I could find right now.
Fully admit to being ignorant (somewhat more familiar with the British or Irish definition of a show hunter, but I’m curious enough to watch this and I’m looking forward to the jumping) but my goodness the commentary left a lot to be desired. My main take away was… flicky toes. Still finding it all a bit nebulous
My French niece informed me that one of the announcers sounds like donald trump, which made me lol. He really does.
I had the same thought Big beautiful ribbons!!
I was afraid someone was going to get a scratched cornea from the way those horses were flinching from the backwards ribbons.
Yes oh my gosh they kept going on about toe pointing… honestly while I know they are very knowledgeable, it makes them seem like they don’t know what’s going on lol. No mention of nice flat knees or efficient, ground covering gaits (that I heard- I only watched about half)
I think they did mention both those things at some point.
They were talking about how the origin was to have a horse that would be comfortable to ride for hours in the hunt field, so it should be smooth and efficient across the ground.
Ah ok I stand corrected, thanks. The overemphasis of toes was a bit odd though.
I just watched it and was cringing. Especially when family members with marginal horse experience watched a bit with me. I should’ve muted the audio. The horses and setting were beautiful but the commentary left me flinching.
The toe pointing was starting to sound like discussing an intentional movement by a gymnast. And yeah, just got weird, like they were filling voids with small talk crutches.
And Dani W’s explanation about pulling shoes for the hack had a bit of an uncomfortable glow to it. I imagine some Europeans wondering WTAF.
What would’ve made this for me would have been to hear more about the logistics of the event - especially on the horse end, with grooms and braiders and all … And also a good explanation of the format and scoring.
My dad literally just said this same thing.
I watched the whole thing as hunter land is completely foreign to me.
They mentioned flat knees and longer striding, floating without a lot of hock articulation or activity. Removing shoes for the look, etc. That part was odd to pull shoes for a day.
Then it seemed all they talked about was pointing toes and that was going to be the winner.
The commentary made hunter land seem incredibly superficial. Discussion around braiding, baby powder on white socks, shiny coats, etc - like Europeans don’t know how to do a proper turnout.
I’m interested to see the jumping portion tomorrow.
Who is doing the commentary?
When I saw it yesterday, it was Dani Goldstein and I think Chris? I believe he is involved in the management putting on the event.
Live feed just started for today. Commentators are Chris Sorensen and Dani Waldmann.
Ugh – I haven’t had a problem with CMH in ages but can’t find it. It says “Live Now” but isn’t the usual red “Live” and just goes to the 24/7 channel. And the class list only gives the hack as an option to watch.
ETA: “On Air” has it with a red “Live” but that doesn’t go anywhere either.
Go to the real site here is link
Thank you!!!
Wait! Do you need a subscription for this?! It’s asking me to upgrade.
Nevermind… it’s live on CMH now but thank you again!
A lot of empty seats.
