The Big C! RIP Kim, see pg. 218

Just the beginnings here as it isn’t dark yet. I’m blasting the 1812 overture and Stars and Stripes Forever.

All is well here. But it’s only 730p and still very light. Doesn’t get dark until 9pish. And not missing the cancelled biker rally at all! I hope they never bring it back.

But you know what would be good right now? (Besides a BLT) Cherry Cream Cheese pie!

Did you want some bacon with that?

Prefer Heinz Mater Juice with a few shakes of salt in it, as kids we would dip our toast in it as a treat or bedtime snack.

OK, this just happened.
My fantastic neighbor texted to ask if I like strawberry shortcake. Uh, sure. Honestly what kind of question is that?

So a little while ago she trotted over with a ramekin piled high with homemade biscuit, fresh split strawberries and homemade whipped cream.

I gotta say you-all are making me want to add smoked bacon to my shopping list.

I’ll trade you Smoked Bacon for that strawberry shortcake ???

Sorry. All gone.
Although I did share the last couple licks of the whipped cream with my dog. Who’s absolutely stuck to my side with the fireworks.

ETA: Just got a text from her that the neighbors are out in their front yards watching adults light small fireworks in the street. Apparently there were some catcalls about where’s their treat delivery.

All hell is breaking loose now. Such an enthusiastic neighborhood! A fireworks display worthy of a small city.
I’ve given the dog a treat after every really large boom and it seems to help a bit.

Oh, there is no substitute for a real tomato. I’ll have to search for one myself…
Thanks for reminding me that I am missing out on one of life’s pleasures by not seeking the real tomato.

When our dog was a puppy, DH started a few weeks before July 4. They’d sit on the couch and watch war movies. “Pop! Pop Pop Pop!!!” DH said, then laughed and gave the puppy a special treat. She’s really good on July 4, but as the booms get louder she sticks closer to me. And she won’t go out for alone a pee break later tonight, when the acrid smoke is thick.

Well I have to say, that was a surprise. Not a big bang up this year, from the lake folk across the street,
Yes, there were biggies, but it was all said and done by a little after 11 PM.
I can only say this has to be because the 4th fell on a Wed. this year. Not everyone could do a five day vacation.
I am just very thankful. Why am I up now you say, ?? Who knows, LOL
I do not keep regular hours anymore. LOL
Oh and all this food talk… Really makes one think of things to try out.
Gotta say, years past, I would have really gone for the Strawberry shortcake thing. now, not so much.
But what an incredibly nice neighbor!!

Pffff…mater neophyte!

Perfect. As my trainer reminded me (actually from a shared FB page), fear is an emotion, not a behavior so you can’t really train it away as you can a behavior. It’s ok to cuddle/love/support your pup when it is something scary. If there are nibbles of paying attention and focusing on you, yes reward

My boy is really afraid of vacuums. When I first got him 3 years ago, soon as the vacuum would come out, out the dog door and onto the porch to observe through the slider window. Today, he’d cuddle/sit right next to me on the couch (yes, someone else is vacuuming) and will tolerate it until it gets within about 3’ of the couch, then it’s still too much and out the door and onto the porch. But progress

DH did such a nice job with this puppy, and so I have a very nice dog. She is easy to bathe in the kitchen sink, then hops up on the couch after a bath so she can be blow-dried with a hair dryer. She’ll stand quietly to be clipped, and is always ready to be vacuumed. You can handle any part of her at any time.

But apparently he chased her with kitchen tongs.
